The Nigeria U20 team were held to a 0-0 draw by South Africa at the ongoing Africa U20 Cup of Nations and Owngoalnigeria.com rates the performance of the Nigerian players on display in the game.
Olawale Oremade : Very composed, calm and assured in ball distribution although he wasn’t tested bar a cross which he perfectly gathered…. 6/10
Mike Zarumma : A willing runner who offered a lot in attack without missing out on his defensive responsibilities. He was by far the one who was trying to make things happen in the final third for Nigeria from his role as right full back….. 8/10
Ikouwem Udoh : Didn’t offer an outlet going forward until late into the game. Guilty of rash decision making and three mishit crosses summed up his slightly above average performance….. 6/10
Igoh Ogbu : Nothing went past him in terms of tackles , interceptions and clearance. Maybe he should have aided the team in attack during set pieces due to his height and although he was at the end of two crosses he wasn’t quite assured….. 6.5 / 10
Valentine Ozornwafor : Left footed, calm and very good in the air. His combative nature fits the Nigerian team properly especially in tandem with Ogbu. But just like his central defence pair he fail to use his height to good effect in the opposition box….. 6.5/10
Jamil Muhammed : Almost scored a late winner for Nigeria with a left footed effort. The Kano Pillars midfielder covered lot of grounds and showed his ability to play forward passes. However he was guilty of making poor decisions in the final third like the rest of the players….. 6/10
Hafeez Aremu : For the second game running, the highly rated IK Start midfielder fail to convince and was expectedly hooked. Looked a bit lost probably due to fitness issue as he was injured few days ago….. 4/10
Effiom Maxwell Michael : Didn’t match his goal scoring feat with another on his first start but did offer an outlet in attack. Despite Nigeria dominating possession he fail to get a clear chance at goal….. 5/10
Ibrahim Abubakar : Had a lively first half but tired out in the second half before he was substituted. Struggled with the bumpy nature of the pitch and the deep defending of South Africa made it difficult for him to use his pace to good effect….. 6/10
Ibrahim Alhassan : Didn’t stop running and getting on the ball but was the worst in terms of final ball in the opponent’s box. He should have done better with the load of possession Nigeria had….. 5/10
Nazifi Yahaya : Always threatening with his pace, movement and positioning but didn’t get the type of service he need to prove his mettle. However the SonderjyskE new signing was guilty of rushing his effort in the box.
Pascal Durugbor – His introduction in place of the ineffective Aremu helped Nigeria have a strong hold on the game but he didn’t offer anything in form of a goal threat for the time he was on….. 5/10
Adeshina Gata : Brought a raw injection of pace, power and directness but he was also indecisive in the final third….. 5/10
Aniekeme Okon : Showed his quick feet for the time he was on but did nothing significant to command a rating.
