On loan Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi has sparked debates on his similarities with that of Nigeria’s all time top scorer Rashidi Yekini after scoring for Mouscron in their 2-1 win over his former club Gent.

Awoniyi started the season on loan to Gent but struggled to get game time at the club hence his decision to terminate his stay at the club and join Mouscron, where he had a happy spell on loan last season.

At Gent he failed to find the back of the net in 16 league games but since joining Mouscron he has scored three goals in just four games leaving him seven goals short of his tally of 10 league goals in 28 games last season for same club.

The manner which he scored in yesterday’s game against Gent with a well placed header immediately stirred up talks about his style of goal scoring which is not so different from legendary Nigerian striker Rashidi Yekini.

Like Yekini, Awoniyi thrives on balls into the box with his ability to redirect them on goal with little or no space one of the assets many admire in the football of the 21 year old.
