The chances of former Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom making his debut for the senior national team of Nigeria is inching closer thanks to his new found form in front of goal for his Greek side PAOK Salonika, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.
Akpom pledged his allegiance to Nigeria after playing for England at various youth levels but his lack of game time at Arsenal meant he didn’t get a call up despite training with the squad during a training camp in London.
Two months ago, the 23 year old once again reiterated his commitment to play for Nigeria and even voiced his intention to play at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations if selected by coach Gernot Rohr, who also said a regular run of game and goals will no doubt place Akpom in line for a call up.
Yesterday, Akpom was on target for the 5th time this season in 12 games with a goal in their 3-1 win over Olympiacos, same game where he also extended his assist tally to three in the league.
With three league goals in his last four games, he is slowly getting close to the type of form that could see him get the chance to play for Nigeria and push for a spot in the team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
