A chance to kick start his international career has been handed to hot in demand Spezia Nigerian forward David Okereke by coach of the Nigeria U23 team, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Heavily linked with a move to league champions Juventus from Serie B side Spezia, the 21 year old who is a product of the famous Football Academy Abuja is expected to team up with the Nigeria U23 team in their Abuja camp ahead of the game against Libya.
This season Okereke has impressed for Spezia with seven goals to his name and nine assists from 22 league games this season, which is his first after a successful time on loan at Serie C side Cosenza last season.
In the summer Standard Liege of Belgium missed out on a chance to sign him and in August last year Spezia tied him to a fresh deal till the summer of 2022 as they aim to get a substantive amount from his possible transfer in the future.
In January according to several media sources in Italy, Spezia rejected an offer of €6.5m from Serie A side Cagliari leaving Juventus as the favorite to sign the forward who can also play on the wing, although his move to the Turin based outfit could see him spend some time on loan upon his signing.
