Austria born defender Emanuel Aiwu who is eligible for Nigeria has decided to stick with the country of his birth after talks with representatives of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) , Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Aiwu was lined up for the Nigeria U20 team ahead of their participation at the World Youth Championship in Poland but the 18 year old has insisted on focusing with the U20s of Austria.
He has represented Austria at U18 and 19 level with 8 appearances to his name at both level and rather than switch allegiance to Nigeria he is focused on progressing through the ranks of the Austrian national team.
Rated as one of the promising defender in Austria he has played ten league games this season for Admira Wacker in the Austrian top flight since making the step up to the first team from the youth team in January.
Comfortable as a right or left back, Aiwu who is originally a centre defender can also play in defensive midfield and despite playing in defensive positions he has scored three goals this season from just 811 top flight games.
