Anthony Nwakaeme increased his goal count for the season to eight in nineteen games with the sole goal for Turkish side Trabzonspor in their 1-0 win against BB Erzurumspor, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
Nwakaeme now has five goals in his last four games for the Turkish side in what is his first season in the Turkish top flight following his move from Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the summer.
Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com after the game, the 29 year old who has one senior national team cap to his name said he is not giving up on his chances of making the Super Eagles squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
” I really will like to concentrate on my club for now and hopefully that will land me in the Super Eagles again. I am not giving up on my chances of earning a recall to the team. Scoring goals for Trabzonspor will help me achieve that”, Nwakaeme told Owngoalnigeria.com.
He however admitted that the options available to coach Gernot Rohr of the senior national team of Nigeria makes it hard for him to be certain but he will not give up yet because he believe he can offer something different.
” Everybody can’t be called up the same time and I know of the choices available to the coach, so it’s not wise to be so sure of a spot in the team but like I said earlier I will keep my hope alive and see what happens”, he concluded.
