The Golden Eaglet of Nigeria edged a nine goal thriller to beat host Tanzania 5-4 in the opening game of the Africa U17 Cup of Nations, which is the qualifiers for the U17 World Youth Championship, Owngoalnigeria.com rates the players on parade for Nigeria.
Shuaib Abdulrazaq – He looks like the weak spot of the team and the manner which he conceded the second and the first penalty should give the technical crew a lot to worry about ahead of their remaining games….. 5/10
Shedrack Tanko – Obviously targeted by the Tanzanians as they launched their attack via his side of defence. Improved in the latter stages of the game but defensively he isn’t assured….. 6/10
Ogaga Oduko – Started the game very well just like the rest of the team. Didn’t influence the game as much as he did later on. Very comfortable on the ball….. 7.5/10
David Ishaya – Showed little understanding with his partner in defence and was guilty of not closing down his man on time. His positioning and tackling need work….. 5/10
Ikenna Chigozie – Gave away the penalty the penalty that help Tanzania bring scores to 3-2 with a poorly times tackle. Grew into his role as the game progressed but it’s clear to see that his partnership with Ishaya is yet to gel….. 6/10
Samson Tijani – The captain completed more passes than any other player on the pitch including the assist for the goal scored by Akinkunmi Amoo. Didn’t control the game in the second half like he did in the first half….. 7/10
Olatomi Olaniyan – Took his goal very well but like the front men of the Nigerian team he was also wasteful in the box. Didn’t live up to his performance at the WAFU B Championship….. 6.5 / 10
Mayowa Abayomi – Worked really hard in the middle for Nigeria and was unfortunate to have given away the penalty that put Tanzania ahead for the first time in the game as the ball struck his arm outside the box. Covers lot of grounds and also won many balls….. 7/10
Akinkunmi Amoo – Took the game by the scruff of the neck from the blast of the whistle. Went past his markers with ease and took his goal with the confidence of a seasoned professional. Claimed an assist and his shot which was parried unto the path of Olaniyan helped Nigeria take the lead….. 8.5/10
Olakunle Olusegun – Full of running and made life difficult for the defence of Tanzania. He was surprisingly not among the goal scorers as he is the talisman of the team. Didn’t take his chances when he had them….. 6/10
Wisdom Ubani : Man of the match display. Scored a well taken brace with the second coming from a well hit free kick. Wasted chances that could easily have earned him full marks, however he did enough to earn the highest rating in the game….. 9/10
Ibraheem Jabaar – Scored a potential goal of the season contender with his first real effort at goal. His goal was his only telling contribution in the game and it could possibly be the goal of the tournament….. 7/10
Fawaz Abdullahi : Settled into the game quickly following his introduction and he did put in a shift when they needed to protect their lead in the final minutes of the game….. 5/10
Ayomide Oluwabusola : Didn’t get involved enough to earn a rating as he was introduced in the final minute of time added on.
