When the U20 team of Nigeria left the shores of the country for a training tour of Germany, the one name that wasn’t on the lips of many is that of 17 year old Plateau United midfielder Mohammed Zulkifilu.
However he has emerged as the star of the U20 team at their training base in Germany with impressive showing in training and the three test games they have played so far.
His ability to play in more than one role has further enhanced his growing reputation as one of the stars to watch out for in the team when they begin their campaign at the U20 World Youth Championship in Poland on the 24th of May.
Zulkifilu played as a defensive midfielder against the U23 team of Freiburg in the Flying Eagles first test game and in the next game against Saudi Arabia, he started out as a central midfielder before switching to the role of defensive midfielder and finally ended the game as a right full back.
Yesterday in their test game against third division German side VfR Aalen he started and ended the game as a right full back as he was preferred ahead of regular right back Michael Zarumma after his strong showing against Saudi Arabia.
Sure to make the team to the WYC few months after he failed to make same team to the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, the GBS Academy of Jos prospect is one player many scouts in Europe will put a close eye on when the tournament gets underway.
