Sadiq Umar is expected to play some part later today when Valencia takes on Barcelona in the LaLiga after missing last week game against his parent club Real Sociedad, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
He joined Valencia on loan for the rest of the season, but with a clause that says the club will pay his parent side €300,000 before he will be permitted to play against them. Last week he wasn’t in the team for the game which they won 1-0.
Coach of Valencia Carlos Corberán said the decision not to name the 27 year old wasn’t related to the payment of the clause, rather due to fitness issues.
“The Club’s commitment is maximum. Obviously, it was committed to the fact that if the player was fit he could play in the match”, he explained before speaking further on the knee injury that kept the lanky forward out.
“The injury he had is a long time ago. Last year he never missed a matchday because of it, and he hasn’t missed one of the squads this year”, he said in his preview of today’s game at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
“The injury happened a while ago, but that won’t stop the player from having pain in his knee or any other part of his body and these pains have to be treated rigorously, as has been done. He has returned and there is no cause for alarm.”
