Super Eagles Nemesis Rantie Strikes As South Africa Inflict First Defeat On Rohr’s Eagles

‎South Africa earned their first ever win over the Super Eagles of Nigeria beating the Eagles 2-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in the race to be at the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers.

Nigeria rode their luck in the first half as despite their dominace the best chance of the half fell to South Africa who struck the bar minutes before the half time break.

Oghenekaro Etebo and Ogenyi Onazi came closest to scoring for Nigeria in a first half which as earlier stated Nigeria were lucky to have gone into the break level at 0-0.

Minutes after the restart Tokelo Rantie who was decisive for South Africa put the visitors ahead with a near post header from a well delivered cross with Nigeria defence guilty of ball watching.

Super Eagles went up in search of an equaliser and were badly exposed allowing Tau who was just coming into the game to run unchallenge before rounding goalkeeper Akpeyi to slot into an empty net to put the Super Eagles to the sword.

The loss was the first suffered by Nigeria against South Africa, and the also the first time they are losing under Franco-German coach Gernot Rohr.
