Former Super Eagles defence hardman Taribo West has given his rating of Rotherham defender Semi Ajayi in Nigeria’s 0-0 draw against Uganda, where the 24 year old operated as a central defender.
Ajayi started with John Ogu in central defence but in the second half coach Gernot Rohr brought on William Troost-Ekong and their combination helped Nigeria to maintain the clean sheet they had in the first half.
This season Ajayi has played as a defensive midfielder as well as a centre defender in the English Championship and when he made his debut for the senior national team of Nigeria he played as a right full back.
Known for his ability to play in several roles including in attack, Owngoalnigeria.com asked West who was a former defender for Inter Milan, AC Milan, Auxerre, Derby County and a host of other clubs his take on Ajayi’s display.
” He likes to play from the back which is nice to see and he reads and intercept plays smartly. I like his ability in the air. He probably wasn’t tested that much but his tackles were really clean. Save to say he did well but I will like to watch him in some other games to properly assess him”, West told Owngoalnigeria.com in an exclusive chat.
