Hapoel Be’er Sheva ace John Ogu has been urged to quit the Israeli side if he wants to cement his spot in the senior national team of Nigeria according to the coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr.

Ogu played in midfield against South Africa in place of the suspended Wilfred Ndidi and gave a good account of himself, same way he did well against Uganda despite starting the friendly game in an unfamiliar position as a centre defender.

Rohr lauded the performance of the giants left footed ace who is widely viewed as one of the best foreign players in the Israeli league but the Nigerian coach believes the level is not competitive enough to test his abilities.

The coach urged him to leave the team for another in a league where the level is a lot higher. Ogu has in the past played in Portugal before moving to Israel where he has been pivotal to the title winning run of Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

“He had a responsibility to replace Ndidi and he did exceptionally well against South Africa,” Rohr said to journalists in Asaba.

“He is a good player but he plays in Israel. Israel is not on a real high level. I hope he finds a new club in another league.

” I love Ogu because he is very disciplined and also very tall like Ndidi which is good for teams with tall players like South Africa which we played last Saturday. We need a good balance between tall and short players in our team. If he finds a new club he will progress better than he is presently.”
