Gernot Rohr says he is the chief coach of the senior national team of Nigeria and not the technical adviser he is called by many following adjustments in his contract extension signed after the World Cup in Russia.
Rohr confirmed that his old contract carries the old designation of technical adviser but in his new deal he personally changed the title to that of head coach, which according to him is more befitting to his role in the team.
The Franco-German coach made this known during a parley held with selected sports editors in Nigeria in Lagos, when he was asked about his official role with the senior national team of Nigeria.
According to role the role of an adviser is merely to offer advice and not to be directly involved in the selection of players for games and his role is way wider than that hence his decision to change the designation in his current deal.
“In my new contract with the NFF, my designation is Coach of the Super Eagles”, he revealed.
“So far, no body has influenced the call-up or inclusion of a player in the team. There is a technical committee. The only time I had issues with the committee was after our loss at home to South Africa last year. But that has since been sorted out.”
