A top member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says the technical committee of the football house has recommended the hiring of former coach of Mali Eric Chelle as the new coach of the new coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Three candidates in Steve McClaren, Eric Chelle and Tom Saintfeit were interviewed by the technical committee of the NFF, but McClaren ruled himself out of the race by picking up the vacant job of the senior national team of Jamaica two days ago.

Former coach of Mali Chelle was picked ahead of Saintfeit, who is currently at the helm as coach of Philippines. However that choice is said not to be definitive as the president of the NFF Ibrahim Musa Gusau still has to approve it.

Gusau per what we exclusively gathered has another coach in mind and will gladly overrule the committee like he did when Finidi was appointed as coach, ahead of the coaches recommended by the technical arm of the football body.

A top board member said the decision lies in the hands of the president because he has the powers to approve or decline any request by the various arms of the football house. He said from all indications the coach has another candidate in mind.

He said the Identity of that option isn’t known but talks on his possible engagement is ongoing and it is why the president said a new coach will be known soon.
