Spanish giants Real Madrid made an offer to sign Nigerian midfielder Uche Chrisantus in the summer before his move to fellow LaLiga side Getafe, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
According to journalist Isabel Pacheco, Real Madrid were keen on signing the young Nigerian midfielder for their youth setup. However, Uche had bigger ambitions and turned down the offer in pursuit of first-team football.
In the summer when Real Madrid made the approach Uche was playing for AD Ceuta in Spain’s Primera RFEF, which is the 3rd division and the Spanish giants wanted him to strengthen their B team who are playing in the same division .
Uche opted for Getafe because of the promise of first team football, a move that has paid off as he has played in 15 games this season, scoring once in an emergency role as a striker rather than his preferred role as a central midfielder.
The 21 year old was introduced as a substitute yesterday in Getafe’s 0-2 loss to Real Madrid, but was subbed off moments later after injuring his hamstring as he attempted to hit an effort on goal.
He is heavy on the radar of the senior national team of Nigeria, and will most likely get his first chance next year when the team resumes for games in the 2026 world cup qualifiers in March.
