Head coach of Madagascar Corentin Martins says the senior national team of Nigeria still has players that can hurt any team in the absence of star striker Victor Osimhen, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The French-born former international footballer took over as coach of the team in January 2025, succeeding Romuald Rakotondrabe, to lead their campaign through the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Osimhen won’t be available for tomorrow’s AFCON qualifiers against his team after picking up an injury three weeks ago, while playing for his Turkish side Galatasaray against Istanbul Basaksehir.
Despite that the coach insist that it’s not going to have much effects on the Nigerian team, because of the presence of other star players. ” Yes we know Osimhen is one of the best in the world in his position, and his absence will be felt but Nigeria has other top players around the world who can make up for his absence”, he said at the pre game presser.
In Osimhen’s absence head coach of the Nigerian team Eric Chelle has picked Venezia of Italy forward Akor Adams to lead the line, with George Ilenikhena, Tolu Arokodare and Taiwo Awoniyi as his backup.
