Returning defender Benjamin Fredrick says he has put behind the injury that made him miss the 2026 AFCON, and now has his sights on the 2027 qualifiers which begins tomorrow for Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Super Eagles will open their campaign against Madagascar, and Fredrick last played for Nigeria in November last year during the ill fated world cup qualifiers playoff, after getting injured in training with his former loan side Dender.
He is back at his parent club Brentford, and has so far made the matchday squad for their last two consecutive games after coming through his come back games unscathed with the U23s.
” I am fit and ready to start if the coach needs me. The injury is now a thing of the past and playing for Nigeria is to me the most exciting thing I look forward to at the start of every season”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
Speaking on the challenges he is up against in the duo of Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey including the new players like Emmanuel Fernandez and Chibuike Nwaiwu, Fredrick said the team comes first and whoever gets to play is definitely going to get the backing of the rest.
” It’s down to the coach to make a decision and as players we are condemned to respect his choice and back whoever gets the nod to start. Everyone in the team is capable of doing a good job for the team”.
