Al Ittihad forward George Ilenikhena says he was confident that he will score on his debut for the senior national team of Nigeria in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Madagascar, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Born in Nigeria and raised in France, the 20 year old opted to play for Nigeria rather than wait for France, and he had a debut to remember when he leveled for Nigeria on the stroke of half time.
Aside the goal, he had a very good game and was substituted to a standing ovation by the fans at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
” I knew I would score but it wasn’t a thing I was going to put pressure on myself. The most important thing is the win for the team and we got it ahead of the next game in Bissau against Guinea-Bissau”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
Looking forward to Tuesday’s game he said they will approach the game with the seriousness it deserves as a top of the table clash. ” It’s a game between the best two teams in the group so we can’t underrate them”, he said.
” The mindset will be the same like it was in the first game. Play our game and hopefully get a win to keep the momentum going”.
