The U17 team of Nigeria have been crowned the champions of the U17 Women World Cup in Morocco after a 2-1 win over Japan in the final, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Awawu Bashiru opened scoring for the Hakeem Busari led team in the 39th minute after a period of sustained dominance which started from the start of the game.

Nigeria held their lead into the break and two minutes after the start of the second half, they doubled their lead in spectacular fashion.

Oluebube Umejiaku produced a delicate chip that left the goalkeeper of Japan rooted to a spot to make it 2-0 to Nigeria and even a late goal from Fuki Ito that brought scores to 2-1 with ten minutes left to play ended up as a consolation.

It is the first time that Nigeria will be winning the tournament and the only African side to have done it in the history of the tournament.
