0

Highly rated Nigerian teen midfielder Theophilus Awua is seriously courting interest from Serie A side Roma, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Awua joined Inter-Milan in the summer on loan from Spezia on a deal that gives the Milan side the first option of signing him permanently in the summer.

However Inter are yet to firm up their interest in the 18 year old, who has evolved into one of the stars of their Primavera side in his first season with the club.

Roma are reportedly lining up a move for the services of the box to box midfielder, and contact have already been established with Spezia, the club that owns the economic right of the Football Abuja graduate.

Rated by former England international John Fashanu as one of the best teen prospect in Nigeria football, his future will no doubt cause both teams to go up against each other in the summer.

Cameroon AFCON Winning Coach Broos Could Coach South Africa Against Nigeria – Agent Confirms

0

The coach who lead Cameroon to the Africa Cup of Nations title Hugo Broos has indicated his interest in the vacant managerial job of South Africa.

South Africa are Nigeria’s first opponent in the AFCON 2019 qualifiers, while Cameroon where Broos is their manager are Nigeria’s next opponent in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

Belgian Broos according to his agent has submitted his application for the job, two weeks after leading a make-shift Indomitable Lions team to their first AFCON glory since 2002.

” I asked him (Broos) if he wants to be a candidate for SAFA because they are looking for a head coach. So this week we have sent his CV to the CEO of SAFA, but until now we didn’t get any answer, which I think is a little (unusual)”, his agent Gino Laureyssen of Liga Star management revealed to Kickoff.

” He’s very interested in working with a young group and I think the South African national team hasn’t done well in recent years, and if you see how he did with Cameroon, with not only stars but players who want to fight and work hard, I think (his interest) is a good sign.

“Look, if he has won the African Cup of Nations and is a hero in that country, I think he’s very smart [to know] that it can only go backwards [from here on out],” he added.

“I mean, he has reached the maximum possible with that team, in that tournament, so I think now the challenge is to look for a new project where he can see what he can do – if he can maybe go to the [2018] World Cup or the next Nations Cup.

“Nothing is decided yet but if he says he wants a new challenge it means a lot and to be honest, personally, the living conditions in South Africa is maybe a little better than in Cameroon.”

Carragher – Iwobi Is Wasting Away At left Wing, He Is What Ozil Is Not In The Midfield

0

Former Liverpool and English Premier League legend Jamie Carragher believes Alex Iwobi is at his best when he plays from the midfield, than on the wings.

Carragher made this submission while analysing Arsenal’s 5-1 hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie at the Allianz Arena.

While he believed the youngster has talent beyond talent, he feels he is comfortable playing as a midfielder than as a winger, where he is required to do a lot of tracking back.

” He (Iwobi) was poor, he looked lost as a winger, tonight he was badly exposed but I honestly think he is wasting away as a winger. He has the calmness and strength that Ozil lacks in the midfield”, Carragher said.

” Ozil has failed to convince in the middle, but Wenger still prefers him to Iwobi who has impressed in badges when played through the middle”.

Arsenal Loanee Kelechi Nwakali Fails To Sparkle Once Again, Coach Unhappy With His Display

0

MVV Maastricht promotion hopes suffered another set back yesterday after Jong Ajax held them to a 1-1 draw in their rescheduled tie at the Sportpark De Toekomst.

Jong Ajax who are also battling to gain promotion to the elite division in the Netherlands are now six points behind leaders VVV-Venlo, while Maastricht stay rooted at 4th position, ten points behind the leaders.

One major concern for coach Ron Elsen of Maastricht has been the poor form of Arsenal loanee Kelechi Nwakali since the start of 2017.

Nwakali started his season long loan spell with the club like a house on fire, scoring his first professional goal aside picking up man of the match awards in three of the games he played in the first stanza.

However since the start of 2017 he has failed to build on his early season momentum, a form which has affected the overall performance of the team.

” Some players are struggling but it is not about them but the entire team. Kelechi can obviously do better but we have to remember he is only 18 years old, plus this is his first season, that alone makes it up for him even though am unhappy with his performance of late”, Elsen said.

Ex QPR, West Brom Striker Peter Odemwingie “likes” Leeds United Links

0

Peter Odemwingie is clearly on the look-out for a new club, after dropping a hint online that he would be keen on joining Leeds United in the near future.
The 35-year-old former Nigeria international was released by Rotherham United at the end of the January transfer window and is currently looking for a new club.
After numerous moves across England, it appears the former West Bromwich Albion man now has an eye on Elland Road.

With Leeds winning just two of their four games this month and looking for competition to keep Chris strikers Wood and Marcus Antonsson on their toes, Odemwingie could prove a useful option.
The free agent liked a tweet on Twitter suggesting he should join up with Garry Monk’s side, shortly after going on talkSPORT to discuss his future.

Odemwingie, who failed to score in his seven league games with Rotherham this season, knows a thing or two about Leeds after he was shown a red card against them whilst with the former back in November.

Some Leeds fans, however, encouraged the move to happen after Odemwingie’s social media activity.

Picture of their meeting up was picked up by our online editor, with the duo smiling in a pose in front of what looks like an eatery.

It could be a chance meeting but it’s worthy to note that Oliseh could have passed some tips to the forward on how to succeed in the Netherlands, as the former Ajax man also played in same league during his playing days.

For now Oliseh’s main task is to steer his team further away from the relegation zone, which is part of the requirements given to him by the club before he is handed an extension.
