Brown Ideye Ends Goal Drought For Olympiakos, Abiola Dauda Nets Winner For Atromitos

Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye ended a five game goal drought for Greek side Olympiakos by scoring in their 2-0 league win over Larissa.

Ideye last found the back of the net against Platanias on the 14th of January, where he scored twice to help his team nick a point. Since then he has endured a goal drought.

He fired blank against Asteras Tripoli, Xanthi, Veria, Iraklis and Atromitos before breaking the duck against Larissa for his 13th goal of the season.

Still in Greece, Nigerian forward Abiola Dauda scored the winner for Atromitos to hand them a 1-0 win away to Asteras Tripoli, and the much needed three points takes them to 11th on the log standings.

Dauda joined the team in January from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, where he was deemed surplus to requirement after suffering a glitch in front of goal. However since moving to Greece he has scored five times.

He scored back to back brace in cup games against Lamia, with his latest goal, which is first in the league taking his tally to five in nine games.

Highly rated Nigerian teen wonder Chidera Ejike popularly referred to as “Nigerian Iniesta” is presently in Norway for trials with Valerenga.

The soon to be 18 year old was a target for Manchester City few years ago but while they dithered in offering him a chance to train with their youth team, Liverpool offered him a two week trial.

Ejike was at Liverpool for two weeks alongside three other Nigerian but issues surrounding work permit and possible loan destination cost him a deal, despite impressing the handlers of the team.

He ended last year playing for Abuja based Nigeria second division side Supreme Court FC, but joined Nigeria Professional League side Gombe United just before the start of the season.

At Gombe United, the fair skinned, fleet footed forward has been ever present for the North East team, and even won the Most Valuable Player of the Nigeria National League Champion of Champions championship.

Documentations cost him a spot at the Nigeria U-17 team that won the last U-17 World Cup in Chile, and same issue stopped him from turning out for the 2016 team that failed to qualify for the Africa Youth Championship.

Celtic defender Efe Ambrose is “desperate” to be a Blackburn Rovers player, according to Owen Coyle.

The 28-year-old Nigerian’s remains in limbo as his loan move from Celtic Park to Rovers continues to hang on the awarding of a work permit.

That is no closer to arriving, Blackburn boss Coyle said. But he revealed that Ambrose could clinch a permanent move to Lancashire in the summer if he gets the chance to impress.

Ambrose is currently training with Rovers ahead of the move and Coyle told the Lancashire Telegraph : “It’s important that he does.

The group really like him, he doesn’t hold anything back in terms of the way he trains, and he shows that he wants to be part of it.

“The lad is desperate to be at Blackburn Rovers and kick-start his career.

“We are really awaiting the final word from the FA, ultimately it will be there decision, but hopefully we get good news.”

This is a player that has played 51 times for his country and in the Champions League so he’s played a very high level.

“He’s shown his qualities as a player and we hope the FA look at that and are sympathetic to that he’s a bona fide quality player.”

And the former St Johnstone and Bolton boss added:“Efe is out of contract in the summer so if he does well, that could be a view to trying to keep him.”

Benjamin last represented Rivers United in the Nigeria domestic league but left the team at the end of the season for Kosovo, where he had trials under the watchful eyes of Ronaldinho.

Liverpool, FC Porto Scouts In Abuja For Scouting Ahead Summer Transfer

Scouts from English Premier League side Liverpool and that of Portuguese giants FC Porto are presently in Nigeria scouting for talent at the annual Gee-Lec Football tournament usually organised by Nigerian agent Babawo Mohammed.

The tournament started today with about ten teams taking to the pitch under the watchful eyes of the scouts at the Area 3 football pitch in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

In the past talents like FC Porto duo of Chidozie Awaziem and Moses John were picked from the tournament while Suleiman Abdullahi (Eintracht Braunschweig, Germany) also played in the annual tournament.

Jacob Njoku who plays for Kiryat Shmona of Israel also played at the annual tournament, which has been expanded this year to accommodate more teams to give the scouts options.

The timing of the tournament is so done to enable the scouts factor the players into their transfer programme in the summer, when the window reopens for players transfer.

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says out of favour Manchester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho has the quality to play regularly for the Citizens.

Iheanacho has not made the matchday squad for the team in their last four games, a situation which many believed was triggered by the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus.

Gabriel Jesus fine form has not only kept Iheanacho out of the matchday squad, he has also reduced star forward Sergio Kun Aguero to the role of a substitute.

However the coach of the senior team of Nigeria believes that 20 year old Iheanacho has qualities which manager Pep Guardiola is aware of, and if he doesn’t get to play him, he will suggest the forward leave the Etihad.

” Kelechi has qualities and his manager is aware of that, but sometimes it depends on how the team plays. If he (Kelechi) is not getting games at City, the logical thing to do will be to move elsewhere and play”, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com in Sagamu.

Efe Ambrose Continue To Impress In Training With Blackburn Rovers, FA Yet To Decide On Permit

Celtic outcast Efe Ambrose is still training with English Championship side Blackburn Rovers as he awaits the FA decision on his work permit following his deadline day move to Ewood Park.

Ambrose joined Rovers on the 1st of January but issues surrounding work permit has stopped him from playing in competitive games for Owen Coyle side.

However, Owngoalnigeria.com gathered that he has impressed the coach with his performances and fitness level despite his lack of games at Celtic for six months.

His performances is partly the reason why the club are yet to call off the deal, a week after it was concluded as they believe he will add a lot to their defence.

A decision is however expected next week, and if he fails to get a work permit he will return back to Celtic until August when his contract runs out.

The future of Chidiebere Nwakali at Manchester City is tied to his performance at his new loan side Sogndal, where he will spend the rest of the season.

Nwakali joined Sogndal after impressing while on loan to fellow Norwegian side IK Start, making 22 appearances in the league, with two goals to his name as well.

His performances while with Start failed to convince the technical staff of Manchester City, who still feel that he still has some growing up to do in certain areas of his game before given the chance to push for a spot in the main team.

However at the end of this season, his contract will have 12 months to run and the club he joined in 2014 alongside Kelechi Iheanacho are yet to open talks with him over an extension.

They will evaluate him in August when his loan with Sogndal comes to an end before deciding on offering him an extension or letting him leave the club.
