Nigerian Academies Have Quality Players Than League Teams – Agent

0

The constant influx of talented Nigerian teen players to Europe from grassroot teams and academies as against players in the various level of Nigerian Leagues have always been a hot topic.

While stars from the Nigerian League notably the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) head to second tier European football league or North Africa, players from local academies have moved to top leagues within same period.

An agent who has been involved in the transfer of several Nigerian players to Europe reckons, players from academies in Nigeria are mostly far talented, level headed and committed than players from the league.

” I will give you a straight forward answer, Nigeria League players are above all scared of going on trials to top clubs in Europe. They prefer a deal with any team abroad as long as the pay is higher than what they are earning in Nigeria”, Mark Williams told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” Players from Academies in Nigeria are quick to jump at trial opportunities. It has helped them make their mark in top European teams and league, beside due to their age teams believe they can still improve.

” Aside that they have more quality than players in the league. It hurts to say so but the facts don’t lie. They are more enterprising, not scared of taking risks and above all very dedicated”.

EAGLES WATCH – Red Hot Nwakaeme Continues Scoring Streak In Isreal, Ajayi, Ideye, Fire Blank, Emenike Benched

Super Eagles hopeful Anthony Nwakaeme continued his fine form in front of goal for Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva, by scoring his 9th league goal but 12 for the season in all competition in their 3-1 win over Beitar Jerusalem.

While Nwakaeme is making a strong case for his consideration by coach of the Super Eagles, Fenerbahce forward Emmanuel Emenike who was earlied rumoured to be on the wishlist of Rohr appears to have lost his early season spark.

He is now the third choice strike behind Moussa Sow and Robin Van Persie, but even in the absence of Van Persie he was an unused substitute as Antalyaspor defeated Fenerbahce 1-0.

Junior Ajayi who has been in fine goal scoring form for Al-Ahly of Egypt has also failed to find the back of the net in their last two games, as he once again fired blank in their 0-0 draw with ENPPI.

Just like Ajayi, Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye has also gone two games without a goal, a shocking statistic going by his fine scoring form for Olympiakos of Greece.

Ideye was on for over an hour but failed to get on the score sheet in their 2-0 win away to PAS Giannina, while in Cyprus Shehu Abdullahi suffered a 2-1 loss with Anorthosis against Apoel Nicosia.

Rohr views the 24 year old as one of his options at the full back position which has been problematic for the Super Eagles since he took over as coach of the Nigeria team.

So far he has used four different players at right back in just three games as coach of the Nigeria team, no thanks to Musa Muhammed inactivity with Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir, which has seen Kenneth Omeruo, Wilfred Ndidi and Shehu Abdullahi play there despite the not their preferred role.

Idowu is born in Nigeria to Russian parents, which qualifies him for Russia and Nigeria, but Nigeria appears to have stole a march on Russia with Rohr set to meet with the Amkar Perm man.

Comfortable as a right back or left back, he has in the past confirmed his willingness to switch allegiance to Nigeria if called up by the national team selectors.

Ex- International Wants Leon Balogun To Replace Ahmed Musa As Super Eagles Vice-Captain

0

Former Super Eagles goalkepper Emmanuel Babayaro has urged Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr to make Mainz 05 defender Leon Balogun vice captain of the Super Eagles.

Leicester City star Ahmed Musa is currently the vice captain of the team but Babayaro says Balogun has shown enough in terms of leading the players on the pitch to be named as vice captain.

” Balogun has leadership qualities that only Mikel can match in the Super Eagles, I love Musa a lot for all he has achieved in such a short time, but when it comes to motivating players Balogun is a more natural leader” Babayaro told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” He (Balogun) has made William Troost Ekong looked world class, he is always giving out instructions, unfortunately a lot of people don’t see that on camera.

” I don’t know about his relationship with the press, which is a criteria as well to be named leader of a national team, but I also don’t think Musa has a good rapport with the press as well. Balogun should be named vice captain”.

Rohr Wants Home Based Players To Provide Cover At Full Back, Not In Attack

Nigerian players based at home have been given a chance to stake a claim in the Super Eagles by Coach of the team Gernot Rohr.

Rohr has to that effect leave the door open for them to push for a slot in the left and right full back spot, where the team is short of options at the moments.

He has mandated his assistants, Salisu Yusuf and Imama Amakapabo to source for credible full backs in the league, who can push the foreign based options in the team for a starting spot.

The Franco-German manager urged them to lay less emphasis on attacking players as the team is well stock upfront with talented foreign based stars, who have been delivering both for the team and their club sides.

So far Yusuf and Imama have been putting together possible names, who are most likely to be tried out during the friendly game against Egypt scheduled for next year.
