Rohr- Enyeama Willing To Discuss Potential Return To The Super Eagles, I Still Need Him

0

According to the coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr, former goalkepper and captain of the Nigeria senior national team Vincent Enyeama is so far giving him positive signals during discussions about a possible return to the team.

Rohr is keen on having the Lille shot stopper back in the team due to his experience and abilities, even though Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkepper Carl Ikeme isn’t doing so bad between the sticks for Nigeria.

The coach avoided a potential goal kepper crisis before Nigeria’s clash against Algeria in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers when Ikeme pulled out injured few days to the clash.

Daniel Akpeyi who was called in as a late minute replacement was between the sticks for Nigeria in their 3-1 win over Algeria, a sign of the lack of trust he has with the goalkeppers at his disposal.

” It’s been positive so far, we are yet to get to a point where he will say yes or no. I need him (Enyeama) in the team. We need his experience alongside Ikeme, then we can have a young talented goalkepper as understudy” Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” We will meet again in the coming days to talk further, I can’t put a time frame to when talks will take place but it’s very soon. Hopefully it will be positive”.

According to various news sources in Belgium, Leicester City has identified Nigerian defender cum midfielder Wilfred Ndidi as a long term replacement for N’golo Kante, and have opened talks with Genk over his transfer.

A bid of around £25m has been lodged and both teams are reportedly locked in talks over the transfer of the 20 year old, whose goal was voted the best in Belgium top flight league last season.

Already a full blown Nigeria international at the age of 20, he has grown in leaps and bounds since he was drafted to central midfield by the coach of Genk last season.

His goal against Atheltico Bilbao in the Europa League was rated as one of the best of the rounds, another confirmation of how well he has developed the last few months.

Heavily linked with a move to Newcastle in the winter, it appears English champions Leicester City are now inching closer to signing the coveted Nigerian, who turned down a move to German side Hamburg in the summer.

Nigeria extended their lead at to the top of group B after a 3-1 win over Algeria at home while Cameroon played out a 1-1 draw against Zambia at home.

Pitso, who have kept a close watch on the Nigerian team since the start of the World Cup Qualifiers warned the rest of the teams in the group to pay attention to the Nigerians, who are now playing a football befitting of their standard.

” This is the real Super Eagles, they were very impressive against Zambia and Algeria. They are to me one of the teams to beat in the World Cup qualifiers” He said.

” The quality in the team is mindblowing. They have players like Mikel Obi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and even as good as he is Ahmed Musa plays from the bench. This is indeed the real Super Eages”.

Six Years After Snubbing Nigeria For England, QPR Defender Onouha Wants Call Up From Nigeria

0

QPR defence hardman Nedum Onuoha who turned down the chance to represent Nigeria in 2010, says he is open to the idea of representing the West Africa Nation, if he is called up.

In 2010, while still at Manchester City he turned down the chance to represent Nigeria at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, despite pleas by former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha.

29 year old Onuoha however accept that the chances of him representing Nigeria might not be a reality, even though he is open to the idea.

There was a time in the past where I did have the opportunity with Nigeria, but it was really only on one occasion,” he said.

“Since then I’ve had a few false dawns with people saying they can sort this out and that out, but it has not happened and I’ve enjoyed the club side of football.

“It is not that important to me to be honest. If I was to receive a call-up then that would be great and there would be a decision to make, but I’ve not received one.”

Even so, Onuoha continues to share a kindred spirit with his birth nation and remains a supporter of the Super Eagles.

He was as glued to the TV as time allowed to watch Nigeria battle their way to bronze at the Olympics after losing to Germany in the semi-finals.

“I’m happy to be a fan for now,” he added and I kept an eye on the boys at the Olympics where they always seem to do well.

“For anyone like me who was born there you hold the success of your nation close to your heart and like to see them doing well. Unfortunately, the gold medal was not to be.”

The Super Falcons of Nigeria started off their campaign at the Africa youth Championship with a resounding 6-0 thrashing of Mali in their first group game.

Arsenal forward Asisat Oshoala stole the headline by scoring four goals in the rout, but she was quick to point out that it wouldn’t have been possible without her teammates.

“This is just the first match and our approach was not to concede in the first 20 minutes. When we went to the dressing room, we came back stronger in the second half and did better. Basically it is not about Asisat Oshoala, rather the whole Nigerian team. I did not come with a target in mind to win the Most Valuable Player or the top scorer, rather to make my country (Nigeria) proud. And also to show the rest of Africa that we are still around and this is the only way to make that statement”, she said.

Former captain of the Nigeria Female team and now coach of the team Florence Omagbemi praised the forward for her performance especially her abilities to play in several roles for the good of the team.

“This is our first game and we are in the process of finding our feet. We are through with Mali and looking forward to Ghana. Our focus is to defend our trophy and we have just started” , she said in the post match conference.

“Before the match, there was no special talk to a particular player. The technical team spoke to the players collectively and passed on the message to them.

“Asisat Oshoala is a special player and can adjust to any position. She did that today and everyone saw the result.”

According to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com former Liverpool teen prospect Jordon Ibe is willing to hear from Nigeria about playing for the Super Eagles.

Now at Premiership side Bournemouth, the discussion about his international future, popped up during discussions with an official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about the robbery incident he suffered.

” We thank God he wasn’t hurt in the incident. Coach Gernot Rohr has plans of meeting with him in England when he visits again. As a matter of fact, a family member called us few days ago to know the exact date Rohr wil be in England” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” He is willing to listen to what we have to offer. We are hoping he finds the project enticing enough to dump England where he is a youth international and play for Nigeria at senior level”.

Man United Legend: Wenger Showed His Weakness By Dropping Iwobi Against Man United

0

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville has faulted Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger over his decision to leave out 20 year old forward Alex Iwobi in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Arsenal salvaged a point against Manchester United with a late equaliser from their first shot on target, but Neville believed they could have gotten more from the game, if Wenger had stuck with Iwobi in his starting line up.

Wenger sacrificed the Nigerian for Aaron Ramsey and Neville believed it’s a sign of weakness on the part of the manager, which had an overall impact on how Arsenal played in the game.

” I believed Manchester United would have set up their team with Iwobi in mind, Wenger lost a trick by dropping him for Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal lacked balance due to Ramsey’s position on the left. Iwobi would have given them balance” He said.

” The axing of Iwobi for Ramsey showed Wenger’s weakness in big games. He went for experience, no doubt but also wanted to contain Manchester United as Ramsey is more defensive minded than Iwobi. Arsenal should be set up to trouble teams and not contain them”.

Chelsea Legend: Mikel Deserves Better Treatment From Chelsea, He is A Club Icon

0

Former Chelsea left full back Celestine Babayaro has given his view on the plight of John Obi Mikel at Stamford Bridge insisting that, the current second longest serving player at Chelsea deserves a better treatment.

Mikel has been frozen out of the first team picture by coach Antonio Conte since his return from the Olympics in Rio, with Conte preferring the likes of Nemanja Matic, N’golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and youngster Nathan Chalobah to the Nigerian.

Despite Chelsea fine run of six wins from six games without conceding a goal, Babayaro is of the opinion that a club icon like Mikel should not be frozen out of the match day squad totally, due to his lengthy stay at the club.

” You have to reward loyalty, am afraid that is not the case at Stamford Bridge at the moment with Mikel. He is not a new signing, this is his 11th season at the club. He deserves respect from the coach, management and fans” Babayaro told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” In my view he should be the club vice captain, after John Terry. They have served the club and they deserve the respect of all connected to the club. For Terry age is not on his side but Mikel deserves to be treated fairly. This current act by Conte is not fair on a club legend”.

Ex Barcelona Forward Pedro Credits Victor Moses For His New Found Form

0

Spanish forward Pedro Rodriguez says playing with Victor Moses on the right side of Chelsea attack in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system helped him rediscover his form.

Pedro was a bit part player for Chelsea last season, failing to hit the mark he set for himself in his first season at Stamford Bridge, which lead to speculations that he could be sold during the summer.

However, he remained at the club and just like Moses, he has found his form and has excelled in Conte’s new formation which has seen Chelsea win their last six games without conceding a goal.

Shortly after their 1-0 win over Middlesbrough, Pedro who had a fine game was quick to name Victor Moses as the man behind his upturn of fortunes at Stamford Bridge.

” It’s so easy to play with Moses, he moves the ball very quick and make proper use of any available space. He has helped me improve my game and adapt after last season”, he said.

” The most fascinating thing about playing with Moses is that he leaves you with little or no defending to do. He is very important to how we play”.

MOTM: Victor Moses Voted Man Of The Match In Chelsea Slim Win Over Middlesbrough

0

Victor Moses has picked up his second man of the match award for Chelsea this season, after he was voted as the man of the match in their 1-0 win over Middlesbrough.

The Nigerian who was substituted at the tail end of the game was one of the liveliest player on the pitch for Chelsea, tormenting Boro’s left back Fabio at will.

Moses who scored twice for Nigeria during the World Cup 2018 qualifiers tie against Nigeria, which the Super Eagles won 3-1 came close to scoring in the second half, but couldn’t keep his shot down under pressure from Victor Valdes.

Back at Chelsea after three consecutive spells away on loan, he has reinvented himself as a wing back under coach Antonio Conte and has been one of the main reason why they are currently on a six game winning run.
