The current on field success of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has brought about an increase in the demand for jersey of the team, according to re- known shirt selling shop Just Jersey.

In Nigeria fans are more inclined towards buying shirts of their favourite foreign teams than that of the national team but it appears all of that has changed following the recent fine run of the Super Eagles.

CEO of Just Jersey Chika Ezeanagu told Owngoalnigeria.com that he has witnessed an increase in the sale of Super Eagles shirts, the last two months following the positive results recorded by the team in the month under review.

” I recently ordered for 2,000 Super Eagles jersey from the manufacturers after the new design was unveiled, as I speak with you now I have ordered for another 5,000 more. I sold over 2,000 in three weeks, he told Owngoalnigeria.com

” Generally people still patronise the shirts of foreign teams but presently the sales of Nigerian jersey has eclipsed that of Manchester United. The 2,000 pieces we bought has only moved 1,000 buyers, while that of Nigeria has witnessed 7,000 buyers in same month.

” Progress for the Super Eagles is good business for us, no matter how Nigerians complain they still love the team, all they want is few good results”.

ADO Den Haag 20 year old Dutch-Nigerian defender Tyronne Ebuehi says he is still a lot to improve in his game before he makes up his mind on an international career.

Ebuehi qualifies to represent Nigeria and the Netherlands as he is born to a Nigerian father and a Dutch mother, but he turned down the chance to represent Nigeria when he was recently called up by Nigeria for their World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria.

” I don’t think am there yet, there is still a lot to improve in my game. Defensively I have improved a lot but I need the offensive discipline of modern full backs. I have to work on that. Am sometimes afraid to go forward. I am working every day to improve that aspect of my game. For example I have been working on my crosses” He told the club official website.

He also pointed out that his Nigerian father, whom according to Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigeria Football Federation wants him to play for Nigeria is his inspiration when it comes to his career.

” My father is always the first to criticise me when am not playing well and also the first to praise me if I do well. He sees almost everything about me and tells me the way it is. He gives me constructive criticism so that I can progress, he wants the best for me. I dare say my father is the most important person in my life”.

Emma Addo, the agent to late Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi says new manager of the team Gernot Rohr is currently enjoying success, thanks to the blue print of the former Super Eagles coach.

Rohr has won all of the three games he has handled Nigeria as coach, beating Tanzania 1-0 before following it up with wins against Zambia (2-1) and Algeria (3-1).

” I am very happy that Rohr has picked up the blue print of my brother and client Stephen Keshi, you look at the team only Iwobi and Iheanacho didn’t make their debut under Keshi. The team has Keshi written all over it”. He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” The central defence pair of Leon Balogun and William Troost Ekong that is now famously called “Oyibo Wall”, was a creation of Keshi, he gave both men their debut for the national team.

” Other coaches took over the team and tried to give it a new identity but Rohr is building on what he met on ground, that was the secret of Keshi’s success with the national team”.

Keshi who lead Nigeria to AFCON 2013 glory died after a cardiac arrest this year was sacked as coach of the Nigerian team for allegedly applying for a coaching job, while still in charge of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The idea of playing Oghenekaro Etebo and Mikel Obi in the midfield, which was was effective for Nigeria in their recent World Cup 2018 qualifiers win over Algeria was actually a brain work of former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia.

Before Siasia took handles Etebo as his coach at U-23 level for Nigeria, the 20 year old CD Feirense ace has largely been played in the attack, on either flanks or as top striker but Siasia saw more in him and converted him to a midfielder with the license to bomb forward.

It was Siasia who first paired Etebo and Mikel in a midfield three with Eddy Onazi in the Super Eagles, in the games against Egypt during the ill fated attempt to qualify for next year Africa Cup of Nations.

However while Siasia played Etebo ahead of Mikel, new coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr played him just behind Mikel, a trick which worked like magic in the game against Algeria which Nigeria won 3-1.

The idea of playing Etebo behind Mikel was so done by Rohr due to Mikel’s lack of pace and playing Etebo behind means the Chelsea ace would be free to go forward with sufficient cover behind him, thanks to Etebo’s abilities to make up grounds with his pace.

That idea worked out well for the manager as Mikel was among the goalscorers, ironically he was set up by Etebo and the game was one of his best in Nigerian colours in a long time, particularly in the first half.

Nigerian female referee Mimisen Iyorhe says she most at times deflect advances directed towards her by male footballers during games.

Mimisen is already in Yaounde for the Africa Women Championship where she has been selected as one of the officiating officials for the tournament.

The FIFA Badged pretty looking referee told Owngoalnigeria.com, that she usually tell them off politely but most times they press further particularly after games.

” (Laughs), boys will always be boys or maybe I should say men will always be men. I get advances from male footballer during games, it’s normal for we female referees” She told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” The thing is you must find a way of telling them off politely, but even at that some of them will still be coming even after games. They are smart guys, they can get your number is what they will tell you”.

On her invitation to be a part of the Africa Women Championship, the business woman turned referee said it’s an honour to be recognised by a body as big as the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).

” What else can I say? Am honoured to be recognised by CAF, I want to thank everyone who have played a part in shaping my career. I hope to be a good ambassador for Nigeria at the Championship”.
