Three Nigerians have been included by the organisers of the prestigious Golden Boy award, which is given to the best player under the age of 21 in Europe.

Dele Alli of Tottenham Hotspur who is of Nigerian descent but plays for England was nominated alongside Nigeria international Alex Iwobi of Arsenal and Manchester City super teen Kelechi Iheanacho.

The trio will however beat off competition from other highly rated youngsters in Europe like Kingsley Coman and Renato Sanchez of Bayern Munich. Iheanacho teammate Leroy Sane was also nominated for his exploit while at Schalke 04.

Other players nominated from the English Premier League includes Demarai Gray of Leicester City, Ruben Loftus-Cheek of Chelsea and Liverpool’s Marko Grujic. While Manchester United Anthony Martial is the current holder of the TuttoSport award.

Top division Finnish side Seinajoen Jalkapallokerho populary referred to as SJK has done a major clear out which predominantly affected black players in the team.

High flying SJK who are presently placed 4th on the league table in Finland after 29 games with 49 points, released the players with no clear reason as to why they were been let out of the club.

Alex Iwobi sudden rise to global fame has been so rapid that his uncle Austin Jay Jay Okocha, has to intervene to help the 20 year old stay maintain his rise in the midst of all the hype he is earning.

Iwobi revealed in an interview, that the former captain of the Nigeria senior national team keeps in touch with him, but mostly to remind him on the need to stay grounded.

Okocha, who also earned global recognition during his days as a player is drawing from his reservoir of experience to help the son of his sister to be more professional off the pitch.

“When I was growing up, he helped me a lot on the pitch,” Iwobi said. “He gave me game advice a lot but the older I am getting, he is helping me off the pitch more so I can be professional and focus on the football.

“He’s always telling me what could happen, what you are about to face. He always says ‘concentrate on the football first — the rest is just luxury stuff that comes with it.”

LMC Announces Record Prize Money For Winners Of Nigeria Professional League

Champions of the 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season stand to win N40m from the Merit Award of the League Management Company (LMC). Rangers International of Enugu and Rivers United of Port Harcourt are the two clubs in contention for the big prize money from a total of N200m pool set aside by the LMC as reward for final position on the league table at the end of the season on Sunday.

Last season, the highest payout from the Merit Award which went to Enyimba International was N30m from a total pool of N150m and this year’s figure of N200m represents an increase of 25%. The Merit Award pool has been witnessing an annual progression from N50m in 2012/13 to N75m in 2013/14 season and now N200m. The top three Clubs on the final table usually received the chunk of the Merit Award which supports the clubs financially in their preparation for the CAF Club competitions the next season.

According to figures released by the LMC, the champions would have received a minimum of N90m in all direct payments for the 2016 season including the Basic Award which comprises of pool of funds shared equally amongst all the 20 participating clubs, the Merit award paid to clubs based on their final position on the table, the Football development and the Bonus award which is paid to clubs based on performances including incentives for improving match attendance, away wins/draw, fielding players under the age of 18 and hosting live broadcast matches.

The lowest placed team in the NPFL this season would thus have received a upto N55m in direct payments from the LMC from all payment Centres.

A statement from the LMC explained that “in addition to the direct payments clubs do also benefit from other indirect payments such as free registration of players and officials, free insurance, payment of match officials’ indemnities and hotel accommodation as well as sponsored seminars and other engagements funded by the LMC”.

Rangers are three points ahead of Rivers United with the Flying Antelopes hosting El-Kanemi Warriors at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium now called The Cathedral by Enugu fans needing a point to guarantee the title while Rivers United go hunting for three points in Uyo against Akwa United. The Port Harcourt side will seek to win big while hoping that Rangers will falter against their visitors.

Coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has detailed out how he intends to integrate three Nigerian prospect in Chidozie Awaziem of FC Porto, Kelechi Nwakali of Arsenal and Victor Osimhen of Wolfsburg into the Super Eagles fold before World Cup 2018.

While the coach is yet to call up Nwakali, Osimhen and Awaziem were part of his first set of call ups but they failed to make the match day squad for the game against Tanzania.

The duo were subsequently dropped by the coach for the squad against Zambia in October, but their chances with the Super Eagles is not over yet as alongside Nwakali who is on loan to MVV Masstricht, the coach has big plans for them.

Paco Jemez , the man who converted Super Eagles latest invitee Uche Agbo to a central defender from his midfield role has been fired by the club, owing to a poor start to the season.

Paco, converted Agbo who has been a midfielder for Granada the past three seasons to a central defender during pre season, and the ex Nigeria junior international kept his place when the season got underway in Spain.

A poor run of just two draws from their first six games of the season have left them in 19th position on the log and, to an extent early candidates for relegation.

Ironically, Agbo who was recently called up as a replacement for injured regular Nigeria national team defender Leon Balogun is part of a defence line that has conceded the most goals (15) in the six weeks old La-Liga.

Agbo is currently on loan to the La-Liga side from English side Watford, where it is expected that he will return back to the side after the expiration of his loan deal.

Arsenal 20 year old star Alex Iwobi has revealed the one area of his game, manager Arsene Wenger is unhappy about despite his regular run in the side.

The Nigerian was barely a week old when Arsene Wenger took over as manager of Arsenal but his career has blossomed under the manager who is known for bringing through youngsters.

Iwobi speaking ahead of the manager’s 20th anniversary as coach of Arsenal, hailed the manager for his career rise and praised his managerial skills which has brought out the best in him.

However, Wenger still wants him to do more for the team in their own half as revealed by the Nigeria international.

“At the moment, because I’m not really the best at defending, he says I need to treat it how I treat attacking.

“And that’s something that’s really rung true with me. I love attacking, but I hate defending and it’s something I need to add to my game.”

On Saturday Arsene Wenger will have been in charge of Arsenal for 20 years.
That’s two decades at a club with the same first five letters as his name.

Winger Alex Iwobi has been telling Newsbeat that he’d love to take his boss on at FIFA to celebrate the milestone.

He isn’t giving much else away about what the players have planned which could involve “a few party hats and drinks”.
But the 20-year-old says Alexis Sanchez jumping out of a cake might be a step too far.

“I don’t know,” he tells Newsbeat. “I’d be surprised if he has played FIFA but if he has then that’s banter.
“I’d like to take him on, yeah.

“Even if we are planning something else to celebrate, we might want to keep it a surprise.

“I’m not really a party hat kind of guy, but if I have to then I’ll wear one.”

Alex, who was born in Nigeria but moved to England when he was four, says it’s an honour playing under Wenger.

“He’s experienced, he knows about the Premier League, he knows about everything.

“It’s such a great feeling to work for him, especially when he’s been at the club for 20 years and has worked with some class players.

“To be involved with that is just crazy. He’s completely relaxed.

“He’s a calm guy, an approachable guy and he knows what’s best for you.”
