0

Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose has turned down a move to Belgian side Standard Liege despite Celtic accepting a bid of around £300,000 for him.

English Championship side Reading and Blackburn Rovers all made bid for his services this summer, but their loan offer was rejected by Celtic, who were keen on letting the Nigerian leave on a permanent transfer.

Ambrose was told of the interest from the Belgian side and was duly informed that an agreement has been reached over a transfer fee but the Nigerian pulled the plug on the deal.

27 year old Ambrose is willing to remain at Chelsea until next summer, when he will be a free player as his contract has just 12 months to run.

However, the Nigerian who joined the Scottish side in 2012 from Israeli side MS Ashdod must contend with life out of the picture of the first team as he is presently not in the plans of manager Brendan Rodgers.

He has only played twice under the former Liverpool since the start of the season, but he is defiant the manager wants him and recently confirmed he wants to stay and fight for his spot in the team.

Usman Muhammed who played for Nigeria at the Rio 2016 Olympics has completed a permanent transfer to Portuguese second division side Uniao Madeira on a two year deal from Associacao Desportiva Sanjoanense.

Rumoured to be on the radar of several teams in Europe, his move to the Portuguese second division side according to a source close to the player, has already been agreed since his transfer to Portugal early this year.

The midfield maestro moved to ambitious Portuguese side Associacao Desportiva Sanjoanense on a two year deal from troubled Nigeria Professional League side FC Taraba in February on a free transfer.

“ The move to Sanjoanense was just a decoy to free him from FC Taraba, he was already cleared to move to Uniao Madeira, and that has now come to pass” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

His move to the Portuguese side coincided with when the Nigeria U23s were neck deep in preparations for the Olympics, and that kept him away from club duties with the team.

20 year old Muhammed leaves the team without a single appearance to his team and at Uniao Madeira, he will be reunited with his Dream Team VI teammate Shehu Abdullahi who joined the team last summer.

Rohr Off To A Winning Start As 10 Man Eagles Defy Floodlight Issues To Whip Akwa United 3-0

Gernot Rohr got his reign as coach of Super Eagles underway with a 3-0 win over Nigeria Professional Football League side Akwa United, in a friendly game played at the Nest of Champions Stadium.

Super Eagles took the game to the Nigeria Professional league side from the blast of the whistle with Nosa Igiebor, Brown Ideye, Imoh Ezekiel and Victor Osimhen looking lively.

Osimhen was particularly impressive in attack, combining nicely with Ideye, and the duo were responsible for the first goal scored by the Super Eagles, with Osimhen providing the assist for Ideye to put the Eagles ahead.

The enterprising Osimhen almost got himself on the score sheet with an angled shot that narrowly missed target, as the Akwa United backline struggled to cope with his pace, tricks and skills.

Shortly before the half time break, Nosa Igiebor confirmed the Eagles dominance with the second goal for the Nigeria senior national team, to give them a 2-0 lead at the break.

Rohr made several changes after the game and among the substitutes were captain John Obi Mikel and his Chelsea compatriot Victor Moses, Ogenyi Onazi, Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa as well as William Troost Ekong and Leon Balogun.

However, Moses showed his red hot form for Chelsea was no flash in the pan, as he immediately took to the game with a solo run that got the crowd up on their feet cheering.

Elderson Echjiele who struggled all game long to keep Friday Ubong quiet, blotted what would have been a classy display for the Super Eagles in Rohr’s first game when he got sent off.

Odion Ighalo still somehow confirmed the Super Eagles superiority with the third goal for the Super Eagles shortly before the floodlights brought an end to the game.

The lights at the stadium refused to come on, forcing the game to be brought to an end, twenty minutes from full time.

The game is meant for the manager to see some of the players he plans to parade against Tanzania in Nigeria final AFCON 2017 qualifiers game in Uyo.

Echiejile has been at Monaco since making a January move to the French side in 2014, with 38 appearances and one goal to his name in three and half season.

The 28 year old is yet to make a single appearance for the French side this season, as he has fallen down the pecking order.

Since moving to Europe in 2008 from Bendel Insurance, he has raked up a total of 131 appearances with 6 goals from his role as a defender.

Omeruo passed his medical with the Turkish side and will spend the rest of the season on loan at the team, in the country where he last turned out on loan for Kasimpasa.
