Unselfish Iheanacho Gifts Nolito First Premier League Goal

Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho showed his unselfish side by teeing up Nolito for Manchester City’s third goal in their 4-1 win over Stoke City.

The Nigerian who recently signed a new deal to stay at the Etihad until the summer of 2021, was introduced as a substitute for the second time this season, coming on in place of two goals man Sergio Aguero.

Few minutes after coming on, he released David Silva who choose to shot when a pass to Raheem Sterling would have put the game beyond the reach of Stoke City.

Less than two minutes after the miss by Silva, Iheanacho was involved in a passing sequence before he was put through on goal, but after rounding the goalkepper, he laid the ball for Nolito to finish instead of going for goal himself.

The goal was the first league goal for the Spaniard since his transfer to Manchester City in the summer, and in the final minutes of time added on he grabbed his second after another unselfish play this time around from Raheem Sterling.

19 year old Iheanacho who is still searching for his first goal of the season, was once again involved in the build up to Nolito’s second as his dummy sent Sterling through on goal before he rolled the ball to Nolito to finish.

Head coach of the Nigeria Under-23 football team Samson Siasia, has changed his mind on his proposed plan to field a weakened side against Honduras, in today’s Bronze medal match against Honduras.

Siasia had plans of fielding some of the players who have not gotten enough game time, but pressure from superior powers has forced him to have a rethink and field his regulars against Honduras.

17 year old Nigerian teen wonder Victor Osimhen, has received congratulatory messages from German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg following his invitation to the Nigeria senior national team.

” He received a text message from the Sporting Director of Wolfsburg, they are happy for him, they can’t wait for him to join them in November” a source close to the player told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Osimhen’s invitation has set a new record in Nigeria national team football history, as he is now the first player to play for all arms of the Nigeria national team set up in one year.

His invitation to the Super Eagles completes a year of rapid progress for the Wolfsburg bound forward, who rose from the U-17 World Cup last year where he was top scorer to the Under-23s within a space of two months and played a role in Nigeria’s win at the U23s AFCON in Senegal.

23 year old Nigerian defender Gbenga Arokoyo says he is fit and ready for his Major League Soccer debut when Portland Timbers take on Seattle Sounders this Sunday.

Signed on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Turkish side Gaziantepspor due to non payment of his wages, his debut was initially delayed due to international clearance but that has been sorted out.

In a chat with Owngoalnigeria.com, the two cap Super Eagles defender said all that needed to be done has been put in place, and if selected he is fit and ready for his debut this weekend.

Zaidu Sanusi who is popularly referred to as “Nigerian Gareth Bale” is yet to make his professional debut, due to issues bothering on the release of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Zaidu was spotted by scouts of Portuguese side Gil Vicente during a tournament in Kaduna early this year, after a short trial in Portugal, a three year deal was agreed between him and the club.

However a mysterious injury slowed down his progress, but according to Faisal Abdullahi, who organised the tournament from where the speedy ace was picked, he is back to his feet but still awaiting for the issuance of his ITC.

“He is back to his feet and running properly, the last time we spoke, he told me he was feeling fitter than ever. The one issue holding him back still remains his International Transfer Certificate (ITC)” Faisal Abdullahi told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Musa Yahaya who was once on the books of English Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur, says he is confident he will be ready to play for the first team of FC Porto in few months time.

Yahaya joined FC Porto from Portimonense who acquired his rights from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee in the region of €550,000 after a productive six months loan spell at the club.

However, he is presently training and playing games for the B team from where his progress will be monitored for promotion to the main team.
