Why I Didn’t Honour Invitation To Play For Super Eagles In World Cup Qualifiers – Tella Explains

0

Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella has refuted reports in some section of the Nigerian media claiming that he deliberately refused to honor the call up to be a part of the team for the world cup qualifiers, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Tella was invited by former coach Finidi George for the world cup qualifiers games against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively, but didn’t turn up for the games citing family issues.

He declined the invitation after playing zero minutes under the same coach in two consecutive friendly games against Ghana and Mali respectively.

Upon his appointment new coach Eric Chelle handed him a call up to be a part of the squad for the games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe respectively in the world cup qualifiers and just like it was under Finidi he declined.

Speaking to the official media channel of the team, Tella addressed the concerns by explaining why he missed the games in question. ” I’m happy to be back, I think. There’s been this perception that I didn’t want to play for the national team and that’s never been the case. I’ve just been unfortunate with an injury happening the last time I got called up. But, you know, I’m happy. I’m happy to be here, happy to be back, and boys are happy and honored to represent”, he explained.

“I mean, it gives me a chance to connect, connect to my roots represent the country of my family myself and gives me a chance to play with friends, you know. I’m able to pay for the country, and I met for my country, so I’m able to play with some of the best players in the country. So it’s a brilliant opportunity for me to improve as a player and also experience new things”.

The starting lineup for the senior national team of Nigeria against Ghana has been made known to the players of the team by head coach Eric Chelle, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

We can exclusively report that the coach has decided to hand a starting spot to majority of the players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with only three foreign based players set to start in today’s game.

Chelle will start with Stanley Nwabali in goal and and a foreign based player likely Frank Onyeka will play as part of a midfield three. In attack Cyriel Dessers will lead the team. For now they are the three players based abroad who are almost certain to play.

” Okoye would have been in goal if he arrived early. But he didn’t so Nwabali will start. The team starting lineup is largely made up of home based players with only two foreign based likely to start among the outfield players”, a backroom staff of the team revealed.

” The idea is to give them the chance to prove themselves and later in the second half we will see more of the foreign based players but that too is largely dependent on the score line. That’s the much I know”, he concluded.

Felix Agu Reveals Why He Switched To Super Eagles From Germany, Eyes Unity Cup Debut

0

Newly invited Super Eagles defender Felix Agu has opened up on why he decided to switch to ditch the idea of representing Germany at senior level in favor of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Agu was first approached by Nigeria in 2019 by former coach Gernot Rohr but he picked the option of playing for the U21s of Germany. However at the age of 25 he has now completed the paperworks to play for the senior national team of Nigeria.

Included in the squad for the upcoming Unity Cup which started today with Jamaica taking on Trinidad and Tobago, before Nigeria will take on Ghana tomorrow in the tournament’s other game.

Agu is hopeful of getting a chance and said he has been given a nice welcome by the players in the squad, and has enjoyed the training under Eric Chelle.

“It’s been one and a half days with all the guys and it’s been good. Very good, like everyone accepted me pretty well. We spend like one training session already. And yeah, it’s nice being here. I’m happy, happy to be to be called up, and I’m enjoying my time”, he told the media channel of the Nigerian team.

He detailed the process and why he decided to opt for the senior national team of Nigeria after playing two friendly games for the U21s of Germany five years ago.

” I had the first contact with the Federation (NFF) and right away I wanted to speak to the coach, and I did have good talks with the coaching staff. And yeah, then once, once we had the call, it was pretty easy decision for me to decide to play for Nigeria, because it’s a good way also to connect also with my roots, so it was a pretty pretty easy.

“This has been on and I’ve been following the team especially the qualification games recently and the last African Cup of Nations.

” So this, this was like the most recent games, the biggest African African nation and it’s like everyone in the world everywhere you go you meet Nigerians and like to represent the country. This is like to me the biggest honor. So, so I’m very, very happy”, he concluded.

Unity Cup: How Super Eagles Will Line Up Against Ghana in 4-1-3-2 Formation

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle will lead the team out for the third time against Ghana tomorrow in their first game at the Unity Cup tournament in England, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Chelle was appointed in February and he led the team in the world cup qualifiers in March, where they defeated Rwanda away in Kigali before playing a 1-1 draw at home against Zimbabwe.

The coach used his preferred 4-1-3-2 diamond formation in both games, and we can exclusively reveal that he will keep the same style for tomorrow’s game even though he will be without most of the players he used in those games.

We can also reveal from our sources that the coach will include at least one player from the Nigeria Premier Football League in the starting lineup tomorrow, which is expected to be back filled with players based abroad.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is expected to keep his spot in goal because he is the sole one in his position in camp as at the time of this report. Remo Stars Sadiq Ismaila is expected to get the nod to start at right back ahead of newly invited Felix Agu of Werder Bremen.

Returning Semi Ajayi will partner Igho Ogbu in the heart of the defence. The Slavia Prague man is currently ahead of Rangers Ifeanyi Onyebuchi in the pecking order per what we gathered.

In the midfield, the trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka and Papa Daniel are currently in favour to start but Kelechi Iheanacho is also not far away from getting the nod.

In attack Nathan Tella and Moses Simon will be on opposite flank with Cyriel Dessers the favourite to lead the attack.
