Rohr “Woo” More Players Eligible For Super Eagles To Switch To Benin Republic

0

Former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has opened the door for more players of Nigerian origin who are eligible to play for his team Benin Republic to make the switch, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Rohr’s team are in the same world cup qualifiers group with Nigeria, the same way it was in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers where both teams progressed from their group, however only one team will make it from their group in the world cup qualifiers.

When both teams met in the AFCON Qualifiers, the Super Eagles defeated Benin 3-0 in Uyo before playing a 1-1 draw away. In the world cup qualifiers Benin have already earned a 2-1 win over Nigeria and are four points ahead of the Super Eagles.

The difference in quality between the players available has always been a topic to Rohr, who handled Nigeria for almost five years and the surest route to narrowing the gap according to the coach is by targeting players of dual nationality particularly from Nigeria, who share borders with Benin Republic.

Already he has stepped up efforts by investigating the roots of some players who are outside the Super Eagles setup. Presently around seven players of Nigerian origin represents Benin Republic.

Nottingham Forest v Liverpool, January 14

Nottingham Forest has won its last five games with an aggregate score of 10-0. In the Premier League, Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad is in 3rd place and is second only to Liverpool in terms of victories. The Garibaldis are also the only team to have beaten the Merseysiders in the first half of the season. Arne Slot’s side wants revenge, but they experienced problems converting their chances in recent matches.

Will Liverpool beat Forest at the second attempt, or is Nottingham ready to become the new Leicester?

Arsenal v Tottenham, January 15

Arsenal lost to Newcastle in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal. Then,  the Gunners were knocked out of the FA Cup, losing to Manchester United in a penalty shootout. Mikel Arteta is failing to keep control and has blamed the defeat from the Magpies on a ball, while Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz are likely to be worried about their missed chances against the Mancunians.

At the same time, Tottenham has often resembled a headless horseman this season . Ange Postecoglou’s team plays spectacular football, with matches at a high tempo, but too often, they lose points and are stuck in the second half of the standings. The Australian coach will try to get the first victory over Arsenal and extend the unsuccessful series of their main rival.

Odds: W1 – 1.435, Х – 5.19, W2 – 7.33.

Juventus v Milan, January 18

Milan’s management was dissatisfied with the results for the first half of the season and replaced Paulo Fonseca with Sergio Conceição. The new coach needed 2 matches to win the trophy. In the Italian Super Cup semifinal, Milan beat Juventus, and in the final – Inter. The Rossoneri were first losing in both games but showed character and achieved victories. Will Conceição’s squad repeat their success and extend the 5-year streak without defeat on the Turinpitch?

Odds: W1 – 2.358, Х – 3.37, W2 – 3.39.

Atalanta v Napoli, January 18

Atalanta is unbeaten in Serie A for 14 matches in a row, but draws with Lazio and Udinese have dropped the team to 3rd place. Meanwhile, Napoli has found its game after a slight decline, winning their last 5 clashes and leading the standings.

Antonio Conte’s squad has the best defense in Serie A, but this did not stop Atalanta from winning 3-0 in the first round. Napoli wants to avenge the crushing defeat and confirm its championship ambitions, although it will not be easy. The Goddess is the best home team in Serie A and has dropped points at its stadium only oncein September last year.

NFF Stopped Me From Quitting Super Eagles – Ekong Narrates How Peseiro Disrespected, Humiliated Him

0

The captain of the senior national team of Nigeria William Troost-Ekong has revealed how he was forced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to rescind him decision to quit international football, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Ekong who was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the AFCON made this known in an interview with Fozcat-The Ben Foster Podcast saying he made the decision after he was humiliated by the then coach of the Nigerian team Jose Peseiro.
He said he made up his mind to quit the team after two episodes, where he felt he was treated unfairly by the coach and confronted him leading to a fall out that saw him excluded from the team on three separate occasions before the AFCON.

“I had just come back from injury, was playing at Salernitana in Italy at the time. We just had a baby, our third child. I hadn’t been home so my wife was saying to me I would like you to be here. I called the coach, I would come to play, obviously it’s a big honour, but if I’m not going to play just let me know because I would prefer to stay home, I haven’t seen my family”, he explained.

“He said you need to be here, sat on the bench for two games. I had absolutely head loss and then we played again in September and we played in my home state which is Uyo so all the fans were excited to see me there to play.

“We were 6-0 up and people were chanting my name as I was warming up. I was looking at the gaffer, just put me on for five minutes, this is what the people want. He didn’t do that again so I got to a point, have you got a problem I don’t really understand.

“I don’t think he really liked that I confronted him. Then I got to a point where I thought I might actually stop playing international football.”

Explaining further he said after the persuasion by the NFF, Peseiro called him up to discuss camping for the AFCON and without apologizing for the manner which he treated him just told him to make sure he is at the team’s camp on a certain date.
At the AFCON Ekong who was by far one of the best in the Nigerian team said he didn’t know he will even start in the first game of the tournament, until after a test game when he was told by Peseiro, who made it known to him that he was getting into the team not because he is better than others but solely because of his experience.

“I left England again so I am away a lot. I’d written my resignation letter to thank anyone and then I spoke to the Federation one more time I am going to put this out a month before the Afcon list comes out, so it doesn’t look like I’m doing it because I’m not going to the tournament.

“They told me to hold on, so the manager called me and he said I need advice on how I need to do the training camp before the tournament and I was like why is he asking me? He said make sure you are there before January 3, we are meeting in Abu Dhabi. Not any chance for an apology.

“I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. We had the last friendly game before the tournament and all the subs played. I was in the team so I played, I had the game of my life, like when you’re angry and ready to destroy the world.”

10 Reasons Why Eric Chelle Will Succeed As Super Eagles Coach

0

Following the appointment of Eric Chelle as the new coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com takes a look at ten reasons why the 47 year old Franco-Malian will succeed in his role.

1. Win Ratio: The coach comes with a win ratio can easily be said to be among the best of any coach of the Nigerian team upon appointment. He had a 63 percent win ratio with Mali. Tallying 14 wins, 5 draws and just three losses.

2. Attack Minded: Under his reign as coach of Mali, the team scored a staggering 42 goals in 22 games. A very high number for a team like Mali who can’t boast of the same firepower like Nigeria. His all attack mindset will no doubt make the Super Eagles unstoppable.

3. Exposed Super Eagles: Mali had their first win over Nigeria with Chelle as coach in a friendly game in March. After the game he spoke about how his team were able to exploit the defence of the Super Eagles, now that he is at the helm. He should have an idea on how to fix it.

4. Made Mali A Force Again- Prior to his engagement as coach, Mali have fallen behind in African football. He brought them back as a force including leading them to their first quarter final finish at the AFCON since 2013, where they also exited the tournament in the quarter final.

5. Solid Defence – His penchant to play attacking football doesn’t mean his team can be breached easily. His team in Mali demonstrated that you can score lot of goals and concede few in return. They conceded just 14 goals in 22 games.

6. Sound Knowledge Of African Football – He requires no introduction to what it takes to get results in the qualifiers or tournament proper on the African continent.

7. Flexible Tactics – His game management while at the helm as coach of Mali shows how flexible he is to tactics. Evolving and changing his approach as the game progresses. A trait of most successful coaches.

8. Quality Players – It will be the first time in his career that he will be working with players of the quality that the Super Eagles have. A sound tactician will no doubt achieve good results with top players.

9. Opponent In Disarray – His first major assignment will be the world qualifiers game against Rwanda away in Kigali, but the group leader are facing a mini crisis with the departure of Torsten Spittler as their head coach and a replacement yet to be named. His second game will be against the bottom team of the group Zimbabwe. Both games are winnable.

10. Desire To Succeed – One take away that many who attended his press conference aligned with is the desire and determination of the new man to succeed. He even went as far as saying he will take the blame if the team fails to achieve their ambition under his guide.

How Super Eagles Hopeful Went From A Possible Exit To Making His Serie A Debut For AC Milan In Three Days

0

The debut of 21 year old Nigerian winger Bob Murphy Omoregbe for Italian giants AC Milan came as a surprise not just to the player but to everyone associated with the club, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Omoregbe isn’t a starter for the B team and was prime to be cut loose by the club in the January transfer window, and talks were already advanced with Serie C side Campobasso for his signing which will see Milan get a minimal compensation fee.

But with the departure of Noah Okafor to RB Leipzig and Chukwueze unavailable due to injury, new coach Sergio Conceiçao asked to see all the options available to him on the flanks in a joint training before the game against Cagliari.

During the session on Wednesday between Milan’s first team and the Under-23 squad, Omoregbe caught the eye of Conceição. His impressive runs on the wing and lightning-fast accelerations troubled senior team players. Conceiçao was left impressed and praised the 2003-born winger then took the bold step of including him in the first-team training the following days.

He didn’t look out of place leading to a spot on the bench before his debut, which came in the 88th minute as a replacement for Rafael Leao as AC Milan sort to find a way to pick all three points.

All of the above scenarios happened within a space of three days and Omoregbe will be hoping to keep his spot in the first team, which will bring him one step closer to his dream of playing for the senior national team of Nigeria.

Chelle Speaks On How Super Eagles Will Approach World Cup Qualifiers Games, Tackles Indiscipline

0

Eric Chelle has revealed the way his team will approach the world cup qualifiers games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe receptively in March, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The coach made this known at his unveiling ceremony yesterday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), where he official signed what the president of the football house Ibrahim Musa Gusau says is a two year deal, with the option of another if he qualifies for the world cup.

Speaking on his preferred approach to games, the 47 year old revealed what he expects Super Eagles players to do when on the ball, and also when they are without it.

“Scoring goals is a mindset. We need to play aggressively and with intensity. When we lose possession, we must press high and recover the ball quickly”, he explained.

Chelle was then asked how he intends to curb indiscipline, which has been one of the issues that past coaches of the team have failed to address properly, which has led to the labeling of some players as untouchable.

“To succeed as a coach, you must take risks. The Super Eagles is my favorite team, and I’m committed to building a strong connection with the players. I’ll be strict but also serve as a big brother to them,” he stated.

Unpaid Bonuses In 20 Matches – Super Eagles Players Threaten To Boycott World Cup Qualifiers In March

0

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is battling to provide an explanation on why the players of the Super Eagles are yet to be paid their match bonuses for 20 games, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

NFF held a meeting with senior players in the team before the conclusion of the AFCON qualifiers, and promised to clear all outstanding debts before the end of the year but that didn’t happen leaving the players disappointed.

Ahead of their next engagement, which is the world cup qualifiers games against Rwanda in Kigali and Zimbabwe in Nigeria respectively, there is every likelihood of some players boycotting the games.

We gathered they are very angry with the conduct of the NFF towards their welfare given the fact that, it was in the news that funds were released by the Federal Government (FG) for all of their outstanding bonuses.

The threat It is the first hurdle that the newly appointed coach Eric Chelle will face in his bid to keep the team focus for the games , which will go a long way in their quest to get their world cup qualifiers campaign back on track after a poor start.
