Mikel Failed To Replace Okocha In Super Eagles- Siasia Aims Dig At Ex Chelsea Ace

0

Former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Samson Siasia says Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi shouldn’t be handed the number 10 role of the Nigerian team, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Siasia who recently returned from a ban from football placed on him by world football governing body FIFA on allegations of match fixing gave the opinion, while speaking on the evolution of the team.

He said the country still lacks a playmaker in the mould of Iwobi ‘s uncle Austine Okocha, that although Iwobi isn’t a bad player but just like John Obi Mikel they both failed to bring creativity to the team.

“Nigeria is yet to find a suitable replacement for Okocha since the former Bolton Wanderers star quit international football in 2006. Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi was expected to take up the role, but failed to live up to expectations.

“Fulham star Alex Iwobi has been used in the number 10 role in recent years, but he is not good enough to play the position. Iwobi cannot play that position. He’s a good player, but he’s not doing as much as he’s supposed to as an offensive player. We have to look for that person in the centre of the field, who can give the last passes and scores goals.

“We don’t have an offensive midfield player that can give the last pass to the strikers. We have great strikers, but we need someone that is missing. In the defence and other parts, right and left midfield, we are good. We need someone like Jay-Jay Okocha, but it has to be somebody that can score more than he did.”

Galatasaray President Vows To Stop Osimhen From Leaving In January Following Reported Interest From Juventus

0

The president of Turkish side Galatasaray says the club will go the extra mile to keep Nigeria international forward Victor Osimhen at the club beyond the January transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Reports from Italy has it that the Nigerian is a summer target for Italian side Juventus, who could even move early by taking advantage of the brake clause in Osimhen’s loan deal from Napoli to sign him in January.

The reports forced the vice-president of the Turkish side İbrahim Hatipoğlu to respond, and he made it clear that the 25 year old is indeed in their thoughts for a permanent deal, when his loan deal expires.

“Osimhen leaving in January is out of the question. In fact, we are planning to have Osimhen play next season,” the club director told Turkish media, as quoted by Gazeteoksijen.

“Osimhen is a Galatasaray player until June. Discussing this is an attempt to change the agenda and spoil the fun of watching Osimhen. The player shows how committed he is to Galatasaray in every match. A person plays where he is happy. He has a contract with us until the end of the season. He is very happy to have come to Galatasaray. We should think about how he will be together with Osimhen in the following seasons. There is no need to discuss whether he will leave during the mid-season break.”

Nigeria international forward Moses Simon is having a whirlwind start to the season in France for Ligue 1 side Nantes picking up his ninth goal contribution in five games in their 1-1 draw against Angers, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Fifth placed Nantes pulled a huge coup last season by getting the 29 year old Nigerian to commit his future to the club, with his previous contract set to run out at the end of last season. He was heavily on the radar of top teams around Europe before his decision.

That decision is paying off with the level of his contribution to the team since the start of this season. A huge improvement on last season which was baldy interrupted by an ankle injury picked up while on international duty with Nigeria, forcing him to miss the final four months of the season.

Simon set up Johann Lepenant for his side’s opening goal of the game in the 18th minute. They were pegged back when Himad Abdelli levelled for the home side six minutes later.

His fine form makes him the club most prolific forward in front of goal since 2013, when they gained promotion back to the French top division. He currently has 29 assists for the club more than any player in the period mentioned.

Former Crystal Palace Coach Patrick Vieira Interested In Vacant Super Eagles Coaching Job

0

The immediate past coach of English Premier League side Crystal Palace and world cup winner with France in 1998 Patrick Vieira is interested in becoming the new coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Nigeria are still without a substantive coach following the departure of Finidi George as coach , with Austine Eguavoen taking the role in interim capacity, after talks with German coach Bruno Labbadia broke down despite the official announcement of his engagement as coach by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Eguavoen led the team to a 3-0 win against Benin Republic and a 0-0 draw against Rwanda in their first two games in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, he is expected to remain in that role for the back to back games in October against Libya.

A source who craved anonymity in order to protect existing relationship said a former chieftain of the NFF, who is a fan of Arsenal reached out to the 48 year old to gauge his interest in the role and got a positive response.

Vieira recently lost out in his bid to be the coach of the United States of America leaving the word cup winner, who is of Senegalese descent open to the idea of coaching abroad with Nigeria a choice he wouldn’t reject.

For now no formal talks is planned with Vieira with the football authority in Nigeria backing Eguavoen fully for the games in October.

Agent Connection – Paganini Says Osimhen Will Likely Join Juventus Next Summer After Loan Spell With Galatasaray

0

On loan Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is one name on the priority list of summer transfer targets of Italian Serie A giants Juventus according to Rai Sports journalist Paolo Paganini, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Osimhen is currently on a season long loan deal to Galatasaray following the breakdown of a proposed move to English Premier League side Chelsea and also Saudi Arabia side Al Ahli on transfer deadline day.

He is expected to return to Napoli next summer, but there is little or no chance of him continuing at the club with relationship with the hierarchy of the club at an all time low. A move next summer is the surest option for now.

Paganini explained that Juventus who are looking for an A-list striker like Lautaro Martinez at Inter Milan as an upgrade on Dusan Vlahovic see Osimhen and Lille forward Jonathan David as top two options in the summer.

He cited the relationship between Osimhen’s agent and the sporting director of Juventus Cristiano Giuntoli as a factor, which could see the deal happen with less complications.

“Vlahovic compared to other strikers in the Italian championship, such as Lautaro Martinez or Napoli’s Osimhen, is not at that level, Juventus does not have a top-level first striker. There are two names for Juventus’ attack”, he stated.
“ One is David, the Lille centre forward, Canadian, so there is also the slot for non-EU players, his contract expires in 2025. The other is Osimhen, because it is true that he has the clause, but the relationships between Osimhen, Osimhen’s agent and Giuntoli are very strong, so be careful because this summer there could be a sensational return”.

25 Year Old Left Back Targets Super Eagles Return After Man Of The Match Award In Denmark

0

After making a storming impression in his debut game for Danish side Sønderjyske four caps Super Eagles defender Ebube Duru says he has his eyes on a return to the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The 25 year old was voted as the man of the match for his team as they got their league campaign off to a flying start with a 2-1 win over Vejle. It was his first game since his summer move to the team from Nigeria, where he last represented Rivers United.

Known and respected for his abilities from set pieces, the former Lobi Stars budding talent expressed his readiness to fight for a shirt in the Super Eagles in a chat with Topmost Sports on Lasgidi 90.1FM anchored by ace broadcaster Babafemi Raji.

”I know going out to play in Europe and giving more performance like I was doing in the Nigerian league. I know I have a better chance of not just getting invited but to play. It was a bold step for me quitting the league in Nigeria and it’s a big move for me because I did it for my career and for my stay in the national team.

“I can see now Zaidu has been out for a while because of injury and Bruno Onyeamaechi has been doing great . I can see he is the only one now coming as left back anytime they announce the list and you know Calvin Bassey is now a center defender. I think playing now will mean more options for the left back slot and the competition will be good. That is why I am doing my best here and hopefully I will get noticed and get a call up”, he concluded.

Interim Super Eagles Coach Wants Monaco’s Rave Of The Moment In Super Eagles Squad For Libya Games

0

The interim coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Austine Eguavoen is keen on having players who will be of help as part of his team ahead of the upcoming AFCON qualifiers games against Libya in October, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Eguavoen will once again play the role of a stop gap coach for the Super Eagles when they take on Libya in back to back games in the AFCON qualifiers. The coach already led the team to a 3-0 win over Benin Republic and a 0-0 draw against Rwanda respectfully in their first two games of the series.

One of the names in the plans of the coach is Monaco’s teen sensation George Ilenikhena who enhanced his growing reputation with his goal for Monaco in their shock 3-1 win over Spanish LaLiga giants Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

Born in Nigeria, but migrated to France at a very young age, the 18 year old who has represented France at youth level is eligible for Nigeria and Eguavoen is said to have held talks with his representatives on playing for Super Eagles.

We gathered that his former teammates at Belgium side Alhassan Yusuf and Chidera Ejuke, who have all represented Nigeria at senior level have been helpful by putting in words , and also sharing his contact with the relevant authority.

The decision now lies in the court of the player, with an immediate response expected before the compilation of the Super Eagles list for the AFCON qualifiers games in October.

0

The former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has revealed how close he came to convincing Bayern Munich rave of the moment Micheal Olise, who is now a senior international for France, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Olise joined Bayern in the summer from English Premier League side Crystal Palace, he was wasted no time in making himself a starter at the club with five goals and three assists in six games so far.

Eligible for Nigeria at senior level until two week ago , when he was capped by France at senior level after impressing for the U23s at the recently concluded Olympic games in Paris. It all could have been different if Rohr had gotten his way in 2020 when he called up the then 19 year as part of his squad for the AFCON qualifiers games against Benin Republic and Lesotho respectively.

Rohr placed him on standby in his 24 man list as the then Reading man was yet to be issued a Nigerian passport. The games were later postponed due to the corona virus pandemic and between then he got a move to Crystal Palace, and had a change of mind.

” Olise was a huge miss for us (Nigeria) back then. When I called him in 2020 and placed him on standby I was trying to see if he will get his Nigerian passport before the games. Unfortunately the games were postponed and he got a big move, which changed everything”, the coach who is now in charge of Benin Republic told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
