“The last time we played against him during Roma vs Napoli, I had this conversation with him, ” Mourinho told HT Spor.

“I told Osimhen, ‘you are one of the best players in Africa along with Salah. Before there were Drogba, Eto’o and Weah. You can’t be diving.

“He dives too much, and that’s my problem with him, but after 10 minutes, we are fine.”

Today the 25 year old replied the coach with a sublime assist to help Galatasaray increase their lead to 2-0 in the 28th minute. His second assist in as many games following the one he got in the 5-0 win over Rizespor last weekend.

West Bromwich Albion maintained their unbeaten start to the season in the English Championship with a 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle to make it five wins out of six which keeps them at the top of the table, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The win was secured thanks to a 62 minute goal by Nigerian forward Josh Maja who has had a blistering start to the season with six goals and one assit in six games. It is the best run ever of his career so far.

25 year old Maja has already surpassed his last season’s tally in just six games this season, as he scored just once in 12 games last term out largely due to injury and fitness issues following his return from a long injury lay off.

Capped once by Nigeria in 2019 when he played the final minute of the 2-2 draw against Ukraine under then coach of the Nigeria team Gernot Rohr. If he continues his fine run in front of goal, a call up might be a possibility.

He will however face an uphill task as he currently has the like of Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Sadiq Umar and Cyriel Dessers ahead of him in the pecking order.

Victor Osimhen is expected to have his first real test later today when Galatasaray take on Fenerbahce in a top of the table clash in Turkey, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Osimhen made his debut last weekend in their 5-0 win over Rizespor and he is expected to keep his spot in the starting lineup after missing out of the squad for the 3-1 win over Gaziantep, due to eligibility rule regarding the rescheduled game.

Against Fenerbahce led by Jose Mourinho, the 25 year old is expected to play in a two man attack alongside Michy Batshuayi, but will mainly play from the left side of the attack. A role he which isn’t quite usual for him.

The decision to go that way is to accommodate Osimhen and Batshuayi who has had a fine start to the season with two goals and two assists in five league games. Osimhen meanwhile will be looking for his first in the colors of his new team following his assist on his debut.

In Turkey the game is rated as one of the most anticipated as both teams are usually title rivals, and this season they are separated by two points after five games in the league. Galatasaray are however the defending champions beating Fenerbahce to the title by three points last season.

Victor Osimhen who was a subject of interest from Chelsea, PSG and heavy spending Saudi Arabia outfit Al Ahli is settling down to his new surroundings at Galatasaray following his loan move from Napoli.

Osimhen’s transfer to Galatasaray came after a failed move to Al Ahli and Chelsea with both teams failing to find an agreement for his signing before the close of the summer transfer window.

His ex teammate at Napoli Dries Mertens who is now playing for Toronto FC in the USA has expressed the reason he is happy over the move, which he confessed came as a surprise to him.

“I didn’t expect it. Victor is smart, and I am sure he made his own choices,” Insigne told Il Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian winger who won the 2020 Euros with Italy refused to be drawn into the saga leading to Osimhen’s exit, rather he explained why he is happy for Osimhen to play at Galatasaray.

“I don’t know what happened with Napoli, but I’m happy for him, especially because he’ll play with Mertens. I can see that they have fun together,” concluded Insigne.

Coach Of Sevilla Defends Iheanacho After Another Poor Performance, Bins Ejuke

Head coach of underperforming LaLiga side Sevilla Garcia Pimienta has once again leaped to the defence of Nigeria international striker Kelechi Iheanacho after another poor performance in their 1-2 loss to Alaves yesterday, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Garcia defended the 27 year prior to the game saying he is still working his way to full fitness and the best shape physically after missing most of their preparation for the season, which happened due to his late move to the club from Leicester City.

Yesterday the summer signing was required to come on as a substitute for Isaac Romero after 14 minutes, and failed to provide the spark they need to follow up their win last weekend with another win. His performance drew further criticism his way forcing Pimienta into leaping to his defence again.

“Unfortunately, Isaac’s injury affected things. A teammate (Iheanacho) had to come off without warming up and that, whether you like it or not, affected the first few minutes. But it doesn’t matter”, he explained at the post match presser.

“I think that if Isaac had been on the pitch the feeling would have been the same. In the second half we did go for the game. The break really allowed us to realise how badly we were doing and how well Alavés were doing”.

Meanwhile fellow Nigerian Chidera Ejuke who has started in Sevilla’s last three games dropped to the bench for this game, and was subbed on for the final 24 minutes. He is yet to register a goal or an assist but currently holds the record of the one with the most completed dribbles in the league.

Udinese have been the surprise team of the Italian Serie A after winning three of their first four games of the season, a run that saw them go top of the league before Torino’s 3-2 win over Verona yesterday pushed them to second.

Led by little known German coach Kosta Runjaić , who was only brought in before the start of the season as a replacement for Fabio Cannavaro their style of play has generated a buzz in the country.

From the Nigerian angle goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been talked about the most for his performance in their rise to the top of the table, but one time Super Eagles Invitee Kingsley Ehizibue has also been as pivotal as Okoye.

Ehizibue has played in all of their games this season like Okoye and the right back has an assist to his name so far. A start of the season that has got him dreaming of another chance at international football after administrative issues deny him his debut, three years ago when he was handed a first time call up by former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr.

Born in Germany and raised in Netherlands, whom he represented at under-age level, but the 29 year old makes no secret of the fact that his dream is to represent Nigeria

“On weeks like this (International break), when I see everyone’s gone away on international duty, I think, ‘Oh man, I need to do something to change this!’ I don’t want to be left here training with just 10 other guys,” he tells GOAL, laughing.

“Even just for that reason, I’m desperate to get called up!”

Uche Chrisantus have been rewarded for his fine start to life at Spanish LaLiga side Getafe with the award of player of the month, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

This season he has been deployed more as a top striker as opposed to his main role as an attacking midfielder. So far he has played just twice from the midfield in what has been a poor start for Getafe.

Still searching for their first win of the season and dropping to 18th on the 20 teams league table, Chrisantus who is tipped for a first time call up to the senior national team of Nigeria in the AFCON qualifiers in October has been one of the positives of their season so far.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has decided to put a halt to the search for a new coach for the senior national team of Nigeria ahead of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers games against Libya, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Eguavoen confirmed after the 0-0 draw against Rwanda that his two games mandate as coach has come to an end, while refusing to be drawn in on how the team will approach the back to back games against Libya in October.

However three hours later , he made a shocking U-Turn on his statement saying he was quoted out of context, and will continue as coach until instructed otherwise by the NFF. He has now been given the mantle for the next two games.

As part of the preparations for the games , he has drawn a preliminary list of 35 plajers which will be reduced to 25, one week before both games which could see Nigeria seal a spot at the next AFCON.

A win in both games will hand the Super Eagles an unassailable lead in the group, where they are currently top after picking up four points from their opening two games, namely the 3-0 win over Benin Republic and the 0-0 draw against Rwanda.

Celebrated African Coach Hints At Talks On Taking Over As New Coach Of Super Eagles

0

Former coach of the senior national team of South Africa Pitso Mosimane has hinted at talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on picking up the job of the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The Super Eagles have been without a substantive coach since the exit of Finidi George as coach three months ago leaving Austine Eguavoen in temporary charge of the team.

Eguavoen who also doubles as the technical director of the NFF will continue in his role till after the qualifiers in October, and it could actually extend in the event that the NFF fail to get a coach on permanent basis.

Sources say the NFF are actively looking for a coach and Mosimane hinted that talks were held with him, but due to some circumstances he wasn’t considered.

“The World Cup I’ve done with a country was once,” Mosimane told SABC Sport.

“So maybe with the national team, I must say that interests me more [than with a club]. And also national team, doesn’t mean [just] anyone. A National team that you think you can go to the semi-final.

“And when you go to the semi-final, go to the final and when you’re in the final, you might as well win it,” added the former Bafana Bafana coach.

“Unless it’s a club again where we need to play more in space. Saudi will always be there also, Qatar will always be there.

“We had calls with even West African countries, two! And ones I said, ‘yeah, these are the ones’. But things are done differently in those spaces,” he continued.

“You asked yourself what happened, there’s a space, the call comes back… It’s not easy to [understand], when there is space for the ministry and also space for the football federation.

“There are always clashes somewhere there, the ministry because they pay for the coach, they want this coach, the football federation want that coach. Hopefully, we’ll get one that goes together.”
