0

Fresh from narrowly missing out on promotion back to English Premier League Leeds United have started the process of improving their squad for the challenge of next season, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Unfortunate to have missed out on promotion after failing to make it through the playoffs, their aim this season is to gain automatic promotion and they are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to achieve their aim.

One cap Nigeria international defender Jordan Torunarigha tops the list of their priority for a left footed center back and talks are well advanced over the deal.

Some reports say all terms have been agree for the move and all that is left is a routine medical before the official announcement of his signing on a four year deal. The player also hinted at the move in an interview yesterday.

“I feel good, I’m in top shape and ready for the next step,” stresses Torunarigha, who initially moved from Hertha to Gent on loan in January 2022 and was signed permanently the following summer for 3 million euros.

The former Germany youth international played 104 games for the club, scoring four goals and providing five assists. He also won the Belgian Cup in 2022.

“I still have a year left on my contract and I’m not in a hurry. We’ll see what happens. I’m aiming for the highest possible sporting goals. That will definitely play a role in my decision,” says the defender who is keen on adding to his sole cap for the Super Eagles.

Super Eagles AFCON Star Uninterested In Big Money Move To Saudi Arabia, Eyes EPL Return

0

The speculation surrounding the future of Ademola Lookman at Italian Serie A side Atalanta will be resolved before the close of the summer transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com understands.

Lookman who stole the show in the final of the Europa League with a hattrick which handed his side a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen has been the subject of interest from teams around the world.

Atalanta confirmed that they have received an offer for him from a team in Saudi Arabia, but the player showed no interest in the offer and will prefer staying at the club , if he doesn’t get his dream move which is a return to England.

The offer from Saudi Arabia should have seen him earn five times his present pay, but he feels he still has unfinished business in Europe and also with the senior national team of Nigeria where he was the star of the last Africa Cup of Nations for the team.

So far Aston Villa are the only team to have enquired about his availability but his high salary demand couple with the not too healthy status of the club’s finances will complicate any potential deal.

Swiss Coach Open To Dumping His Current Team For Super Eagles Job – I Will Make Them The Best Team In Africa

0

The coach of the one of the fastest rising team in Africa Central Africa Republic (CAR) Raoul Savoy says he is open to becoming the next coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Super Eagles are currently on the lookout for a new coach following the exit of Finidi George after a poor showing during the recently concluded world cup 2026 qualifiers, where they were held to a 1-1 draw by South Africa before losing 1-2 to Benin Republic.

Savoy who saw his team bounce back to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Chad after losing 3-4 to Ghana wonders why the Super Eagles are currently struggling in their group despite the array of stars I in the team.

He said he can make the team who are currently 5th in their 6 team group for the world cup qualifiers one of the best in the continent if given the job, but said he won’t be applying for the job because he is currently employed but if approached he will be open to talking about it.

“I don’t know why the national team is not doing well. Maybe the expatriate coaches you are taking don’t really know Africa and maybe they are not really good for the team”,he said in an interview monitored on Brila FM.

” I’m sure I can tell you now that If I take this team with my technical staff, we are going to do very good things and maybe again be one of the better teams in Africa. I don’t know why they made the strange decision, they took some coaches I don’t know but after they tried, they left. If they give me the team, I can promise to make Nigeria a great team in Africa.

The coach who led CAR to a shock 1-0 win over Nigeria in Lagos in 2021 further said: “I can’t apply when I am under contract with another national team, it’s not fair but in football normally when you want somebody and you are sure that this guy or the technical staff is the better one for your team, you can just make a call and then we can talk, but I don’t want to talk when I’m under contract, it is not fair”.

Oliseh Omit Osimhen From Super Eagles Best Two Players At The Moment, Picks Two Others

0

The former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Sunday OlIseh has picked the two best players in the team at the moment and he surprisingly left out current Africa Player Of The Year Victor Osimhen.

In a no hold barred interview with Elegbete TV, Oliseh who also captained the team picked the best two players in the team at the moment while speaking on their performance at the AFCON and also for their respective teams.

Oliseh said the team presently has two players that he believe are the best in Ademola Lookman of Serie A side Atalanta and Victor Boniface of German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

Lookman who stole the show in the Europa League final with a hattrick to hand his side a 3-0 win has the attention of Finidi as well as Boniface, who was key to the unbeaten run of Bayer Leverkusen leading to the league and cup double.

*Coming to the Super Eagles there’s something I would like to add. There are two players that we have now in my opinion are the best players we have at the moment, looking at the past season,” Oliseh said on Elegbete TV.

“I’m looking at Lookman and one that might surprise you and I find him extraordinarily good. His name is Victor Boniface.

“I watch this guy every week because he’s playing just 45 minutes drive from my house at Leverkusen, so I had opportunity to watch him play so many times.

“He’s a player who can do it all. He’s a player that can play with his back to goal, he’s a player one on one you are in trouble, he’s a player that has pace, he is aerially strong and he carries the team with him.

“If he’s injured often, it is because the Bundesliga is one of the demanding leagues in the world, physically not only technically.

“When I see players like that, it makes me optimistic for the Super Eagles because you can build teams around those players.”

You Need Help – Oliseh Fires Back At Mikel Obi Tagging Him As The Worst Super Eagles Coach Ever

0

Former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Finidi George says ex captain of the team John Obi Mikel needs help after tagging him as the worst coach to have ever handled the Super Eagles, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Speaking in his podcast Obione Mikel who had a huge fallout with Oliseh during his time as coach of the team tagged the former captain as the worst ever to have handled the team in recent times, saying he was confused and bitter.

“He (Oliseh) had absolutely no clue of how a manager is. He was a fantastic guy in his playing days, but as a coach, he was very terrible. He absolutely had no clue of what he was doing,” Mikel said on the ObiOne podcast.

“The players never understood anything he was doing, and he did not know what he was doing. He was just confused because he just came in and destroyed the team togetherness.

“His excuse when he got fired was that the people and FA did voodoo on him not to succeed. He was easily the worst manager I played under.

“He was so bitter with everybody, jealous with everybody, and had no respect for speaking to anybody, whether the physio or anybody.”

Reacting to the comments, Olised who was also a former Super Eagles captain said Mikel needs help throwing shades at him for trying to do what he couldn’t do as a footballer after his career.

“I think the kid (John Mikel Obi) needs some help. I think the boy needs some help”, he told Elegbete TV.

“I was voted the best coach in Holland at that time. I am the first and the only coloured player from sub saharan Africa to have ever won this award and at the same time with a club like Fortuna Sittard who had very average players, we were able to qualify for the second division from the last position to the first division where they are at the moment and they won a title.

” I don’t need to justify myself as a good coach to the kid, I call him the kid because my son is 27 years old and when he made this statement I heard about it but I will like to help the boy because I think he needs some help.

” You cannot become a legend with your mouth. You cannot achieve what you couldn’t achieve on the pitch as a footballer with talking and podcast”.

0

Belgium side Union Saint-Gilloise (USG) have concluded the signing of former Nigeria U23 striker Promise David on a three year deal from Estonian side Kalju on a three year deal , OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

His move was announced by the club on their official website as part of the strengthening of the team ahead of next season after the disappointment of last season.

The move is similar to the coup they pulled two seasons ago when they signed another Nigerian in Victor Boniface from Norwegian side Bodo Glimt, he was an instant hit and earned a big money move to German side Bayer Leverkusen, where he was a key part of the team that won the league and cup with an unbeaten run.

David who scored 14 goals in 16 games last season was a part of the Salisu Yusuf team that failed to make it to the U23 Africa Cup of Nations, hence missing out on a chance to be at the Paris Olympics.

Aside Nigeria he is also eligible for Canada as well , the 22 year old could spark a tug of war between both countries if he replicate the same form that made him a huge hit in Estonia last season.

The decision to send three players home from the camp of the Super Eagles to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia on account of breaching the disciplinary code of the team.

Chelsea defender Celestine Babayaro, Portsmouth striker Yakubu Aiyegeni and Schalke’s Victor Agali  were the three players sent home from the camp of the team in an announcement made by then secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) late chief Taiwo Ogunjobi.

“They only returned to the hotel this Friday morning

“NFF Officials lied about what happened in Tunisia, I was kicked out of the Super Eagles on false allegations. The officials, had the press at their disposal and would often use them to put out all sorts of narratives. They didn’t care how if affected the player’s, as long as it’s in line with their agenda”.
