Why It Is Difficult To Pair Osimhen And Boniface In Super Eagles Attack – Finidi Tells Fans Of Super Eagles

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Finidi George has doused the expectations of fans of the team who are keen on seeing Victor Osimhen play in attack alongside Victor Boniface, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The duo are by far the most consistent strikers available to the coach owing to their exploits for their respective teams in Europe. Osimhen has found the back of the 15 times in 24 Serie A games for Napoli in what has been a injury hit season for the 25 year old.

Boniface who was also out for three months has found the back of the net 14 times in 23 Bundesliga games for Bayer Leverkusen this season, with his team yet to lose any of their games this season in all competitions.

Speaking earlier today the coach was asked if he feels pairing the duo will be best for the team in the world cup qualifiers games against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively in June, and he said it depends on how they approach both games.

” We can play in a way that will see us use both of them at the same time. They are both top strikers so we have to make sure the time is right and the game plan favours them before a decision is made”, the coach said.

Formation Is Not Important – New Super Eagles Coach Finidi George Drops Shocker

0

The newly appointed coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Finidi George says he isn’t big on formation as he prepares the team for the 2026 world cup qualifiers games against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively.

In an interview with Brila FM monitored by OwnGoalNigeria.com, the former Ajax winger was asked about his philosophy ahead of the game and he went on to describe how he expects his team to play, which to him is more important.

His take although controversial is what he sees as the philosophy of the top teams like Manchester City and Arsenal saying players recognizing when to attack and when to defend is more important than any formation.

“To me my philosophy is to win. To me formation is not that important because if players interpret when they want to attack and when to defend and they do it well.

” There will not be problems because we can play 3-5-2, 4-3-3 or 4-2-2, but if the players know when to attack and when to defend I think will not have any problems. That is what Man City, Arsenal every team does but the difference is that players most recognize these moments and if they do they will definitely not have any problems”.

0

Finidi who was given a one year deal with the option of a further year if the team makes it to the semi final of the next Africa Cup of Nations will officially begin his reign in June, when they take on South Africa and Benin Republic In the 2026 world cup qualifiers.

He will be expected to lead the team out alongside his assistants and the next to him is the U15 coach of German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim Benjamin James. He will serve as the first assistants to the former Ajax winger.

James has been in the youth team setup of Hoffenheim for 15 years and has won a total of 13 trophies. He worked with the current coach of the senior national team of Germany Julian Nagelsmann at the club as coach of U15 while Nagelsmann handled the U19.

In 2013 , they both guided their respective teams to victory in youth tournaments. When Nagelsmann stepped up to the first team he praised the works of James at the U15 as largely responsible for the growth and development of players coming through the youth system.

He has since moved up to coaching RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich before his recent role as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria. His first assignment will be the upcoming European championship.

” Here we have a culture which we set from youth teams to the top here. James has done a wonderful job there and he is one of the best we have around at that level and the same goes for the rest of the coaches in our youth team setup. It’s a collective thing”, the coach said in 2017.

Finidi Reveals What Super Eagles Must Do To Beat South Africa, Benin Republic In World Cup Qualifiers

0

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Finidi George has revealed what his team need to win their next two games in the 2026 world cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

Finidi will lead the team out for the first time in a competitive game in June starting with the game against South Africa in Uyo, with the team needing a win to get their campaign back on track after back to back draws in their opening games of the series.

A lot has been made about which tactics will suit the team in the games, but Finidi who has said winning both games is non negotiable insist that tactics alone won’t be enough to get the win in both games.

“Every formation has to do with the players and what they can bring in every given game. Our job is to motivate the players, make sure they are physically okay, and then the tactics don’t really matter because in football, no matter the tactics you come up with, you have to attack and defend. If you can do that properly, you have a big chance of winning games”, he told Afrik Foot.

*If you attack properly and have that balance to defend properly, you have every chance to win games. It doesn’t matter what formation you put up for players. At the end of the day, you can’t attack and not defend. So once you have that balance of attacking and defending, then you are good to go.

“Is it 4-4-2? The players are used to it. 4-3-3? They are used to it in Europe. We will not do anything that is strange or new to them, but rather what they are used to. Let them understand what you are trying to do and ask for commitment from the players, and nothing else. The rest would be the players performing well on the field of play, and we will have the result”.

29 Year Old Striker With 22 Goals Unsure Of Making Super Eagles Squad For World Cup Qualifiers

0

Despite having what can be described as a fantastic season for Scottish side Rangers Cyriel Dessers says he isn’t sure of making the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 world cup qualifiers games against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively.

Dessers played in both games under new coach Finidi George and found the back of the net against Ghana. He is said to have the faith of the new coach but the return to full fitness of  the trio of Victor Osimhen, Terem Moffi and Victor Boniface has cast doubts over his inclusion.

Also the duo of Taiwo Awoniyi and Paul Onuachu are in contention for a return to the team after returning to full fitness and match sharpness. Ahead of the official announcement of the squad for both games Dessers says he isn’t sure of his inclusion despite hitting 22 goals this season.

” This is the Super Eagles where we have so many options and it’s always a honor to get picked. When it comes then you go and fight. I can’t say I will be in the squad for the world cup qualifiers but I am confident that if I get a look in I will give my best”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

New Super Eagles Coach Finidi Warns NPFL Players On Inclusion In His Team

0

The newly appointed coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Finidi George has laid down the marker for players playing in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on what it will take for them to make his team, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Finidi took over as the substantive coach of the team after playing the role of interim coach for the friendly games against Ghana and Mali respectively during the last international break.

His appointment was widely celebrated as a plus for players playing in the NPFL considering that he was the coach of Enyimba and even won the league, before his exit to take over as coach of the Nigerian team.

The coach has however said it will not be straightforward like many expected saying he will only call player who can add value to the team, and not because they play in the NPFL.

“Like I said in an interview on that day of my unveiling, I will definitely go around and watch games, and see who and who that can come in to add value; that can come in to play”, he said in an interview with Afrik Foot .

“If we can see those that are willing, that have commitment and are ready to play and I know that they can help us, they will definitely be invited. No sentiment in this; there’s no sentiment.

” So if I go around and see players, players that are good enough to perform, they will definitely come to the camp”.

Finidi will lead the Super Eagles for the first time in a competitive game in June following his permanent appointment as the coach of the team on a one year deal with the option of a further year, if he gets to the semi final of the next Africa Cup of Nations.

They will host South Africa in Uyo on the 7th of June before keeping a date with Benin Republic in Cote d’Ivoire as they bid to make up for what is a poor start to the qualifiers, with back to back draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe respectively.

Ahead of the game, the coach sent provisional invitation to 35 players with a final 25 man list set to be picked from it by the weekend.  However there is a late change to the final list per what we exclusively gathered.

” Frank Onyeka is out of both games after missing the last two games for Brentford. His replacement has been contacted and when the list becomes official you will see the player that took his spot. It’s Like Watching A Young Mikel Play – Nigeria U17 Captain Provokes Comparison With Super Eagles Legend

0

The captain of the Nigeria U17 team Simon Cletus, who is starring at the ongoing WAFU B tournament has drawn comparison with former captain and legend of the senior national team of Nigeria John Obi Mikel, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Cletus picked up his second consecutive man of the match award helping the team to their first win of the tournament with a 1-0 win over Niger Republic. They started the tournament by playing a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso.

In both games, Cletus was voted the man of the match as he stood tall in the middle of the park for Nigeria dictating play and getting into opposition box with ease in the same manner, like a young Obi at the 2003 U17 World Cup in Finland.

The Mavlon academy star has already caught the attention of top teams in Europe, but head coach of the team Manu Garba is calling for caution with the hype around his performance so far saying their achievement as a team is more valuable than any player distinguishing himself.

” He (Cletus) is an awesome talent but it’s too early to say he is this or that. Right now our focus is on how to make it to the AFCON via this tournament and we still have a long way to go”, the coach told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

Dortmund Star Adeyemi Can’t Switch To Super Eagles Despite Snub By Germany For Euros – FIFA Rules

0

The amendment of the eligibility rule by world football governing body FIFA has made it possible for most players to switch nationality despite representing another country at senior level, OwnGoalNigeria.comreports .

In late 2020, FIFA announced at its 70th annual congress that the eligibility rules had been updated, in what administrators have described as the “first wholesale modernisation” of the rules, with added codification and clarification.

In particular, FIFA has added three new exceptions whereby a player may change the national team they play for.

First, it is now possible for a player to change national team even if they have played competitively at senior level, provided:

1. the player held the nationality of their new association at the time of their first official appearance for their first national team.
the player played in no more than three competitive senior games before the age of 21.
2. the player has not played in the final stage of an official tournament such as the World Cup, European Championship, Copa America etc.
at least three years have passed since the player’s last senior appearance for their previous national team.

3. the player has not played in the final stage of an official tournament such as the World Cup, European Championship, Copa America etc.
at least three years have passed since the player’s last senior appearance for their previous national team.

Second, a player can now change to a new national team even if they did not hold that nationality at the time of their first appearance for their old national team, as long as they last played for the old national team before the age of 21.

It should be noted that there is an exception underpinned by the principle of legal certainty, whereby the age limit of 21 does not apply to players who played their last match for their old national team prior to September 18, 2020, when the new rules were introduced.

Finally, a competitive cap will not keep a player tied to a national team in the event that they suddenly become stateless – that is, lose their nationality – against their will.

It is on the basis of the above that many thought that Karim Adeyemi who is of Nigerian descent and has displayed his affection to the West African country can apply for a switch, despite representing Germany four times at senior level.

Snubbed by Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann for the Euros, many are of the opinion that he should use the new rule to consider a switch to Nigeria, it is now confirmed that he ran foul of all the provisions in the amendment meaning he can’t play for Nigeria. ” Adeyemi can’t play for Nigeria. It’s an idea that was mooted two months ago but his lawyers confirmed that he can’t make the switch. So it’s Germany or no international football for him. He is however still very committed to Nigeria by heart”, a close source to the player told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
