The Five Top Players For Nigeria U17 In Stalemate Against Burkina Faso At WAFU B

0

The Nigeria U17 team got their campaign at the ongoing WAFU B U17 championship with a 0-0 draw against Burkina Faso yesterday, OwngoalNigeria.com reports.

Both teams cancelled out each other for the entirety of the game, but it wasn’t all gloom and doom for the Nigerian team as our editor in chief Mohammed Mowiz Suleiman picks the five players who distinguished themselves for the Nigerian team.

1. Simon Cletus – Deservedly got voted as the man of the match. The captain of the Nigerian team showed his class in the game and if not for some wayward finish when through on goal, no thanks to the poor nature of the pitch, he could easily have gotten a goal or two.

2. Abdulwaris Yunus – An emerging ball playing defender who isn’t scared of carrying the ball to the opposition half. Won all his tackles and aerial duels. Such a commanding performance he had.

3. Abdulmuiz Oladimeji – Produced a peach of a pass to release top striker Rapha Adams who surprisingly fluffed his effort with the goalkeeper at his mercy. Full of energy and running he bossed the center of the park for Nigeria.

4. Rapha Adams – Unlucky not to get a goal for his efforts. A tireless runner who ran the channel really well with his link up play and close ball control. A bit nervous in front of goal but that is expected considering his age.

5. Chinedu Dominic – He didn’t have much to do in goal but stood tall when he was needed by the team. Claimed crosses with ease and understood how best to cope with the wet surface by electing to punch instead of hold on to the ball in that condition.

In an interview the former Shooting Stars defender who was nicknamed Olopa in his playing days was asked to speak on the difference between the duo of Osimhen and Boniface, who are by far the two hottest players in the attack of the team.

Both of them are expected to be among the players who will represent Nigeria, when the world cup qualifiers resumes in June with the game against South Africa in Uyo. James gave his opinion on the duo.

“Players have different characters,” he said. “They have their different style of play.”

“I would use Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface as an example. Osimhen is not the creative type but he is a finisher. Boniface can create and finish because he is good in One-on-one situations”, he stated.

Super Eagles Goalkeeper Not Keen On Big Money Move To Saudi Arabia, Reveals Discussion With Onana

0

The first choice goalkeeper of the senior national team of Nigeria Stanley Nwabali has dropped a huge hint regarding his next career move as he nears an exit from PSL side Chippa United in the summer, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

27 year old Nwabali sold himself to the rest of the world with a solid showing for Nigeria at the AFCON, where the team went all the way to the final of the tournament before losing 1-2 to the host Cote d’Ivoire.

His rise brought about reports of interest in his services from teams in Europe and huge interest from Saudi Arabia side El Ettifaq. Chippa United are not opposed to his exit but insist that his transfer fee must meet their valuation.

Fellow PSL side Kaizer Chiefs are said to be keen on having him between the sticks as replacement for veteran Itumuleng Khune who is set to depart the team at the end of this season.

Nwabali was asked about his possible next port of call and he hinted at possibly remaining in the PSL instead of a move to Saudi Arabia or a team in Europe, citing the first choice goalkeeper of the South Africa national team as one who is getting due recognition while playing in the PSL.

“Ronwen Williams is at Sundowns, he gets everything he wants, he’s got the name, the sponsor, his family is here, everyone is supporting him, he’s the captain of Bafana Bafana, to me the league is okay,” Nwabali told Far Post.

“The league, the pay is a little bit nice for [depending on] a certain level of your team. It’s not like in West Africa where our leagues are not that good. We want to go to Europe, we want to go to South Africa, we want to go to Morocco, all those kinds of leagues, if your league is nice there’s no point in you leaving.

“If your league is nice, you’re getting paid, you’re getting sponsors, what are you leaving for? ,” he continued.

“If you want to challenge yourself, you can still leave. It depends on you if you can cope there, if you can’t cope there, it’s fine to just come back and play your football.”

The former Enyimba man also revealed that he is in touch with Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, whom he met at the AFCON.

The English Premier League will draw to a close this weekend with all round of 38 games set to be played simultaneously, the title race will also be decided between holders Manchester City and challengers Arsenal, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Table toppers Manchester City will be crown champions if they beat West Ham at the Etihad, but anything short of a win and Arsenal go ahead to beat Everton then the gunners will be champions for the first time in 20 years.

At the front of their title charge is Bukayo Saka, an England international who is of Nigerian descent and had a remarkable run of playing in 87 consecutive games before the run came to an end in October, when he missed the game against Manchester City.

Speaking on the durability of the 22 year old, Former English Premier League star Clinton Morrison said it’s down to the Nigerian meal the forward confessed he takes rather than any fitness regime. ” It has to be the Nigerian food. I agree with him because you don’t have a player at such a young age with an amazing run of games. No doubt it’s only meals from the kitchen of one’s mother that guarantees such level of fitness”, he said.

His statement was in response to Saka saying that his fitness can be traced to the home made meals of his Nigerian mother , who ensures that he gets the best of Nigerian food which is good for his body system and strength.

Finidi Place NPFL Star On Standby For Injured Chukwueze In Super Eagles Squad For World Cup Qualifiers

0

The list of players who will represent Nigeria in the upcoming world cup qualifiers games against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively is expected to be made public by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) by the weekend, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Newly appointed coach Finidi George has already sent out provisional invitations to 35 players ahead of the games, and a final 25 man list will be made public after this weekend round of games in Europe, per what we exclusively gathered.

The delay is due to the fact that some players expected to be in the list are currently facing a race against time to be fit for the games, with a decision expected to be taken on their participation later this week.

Already the technical crew has lined up replacements for the players who are in doubt for the games, and among them is a relatively unknown winger in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

” The idea will be to call up a player from the NPFL if Chukwueze isn’t passed fit. We have four of them in the provisional list hence moving them to the main list won’t be an issue at all. There is a winger there who will no doubt replace Chukwueze if he isn’t fit for these games”, a source at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) hinted.

The head coach of South Africa Hugo Broos yesterday revealed the list of players who will prosecute their upcoming world cup qualifiers games against Nigeria and Zimbabwe respectively.

Broos decision to include Burnley’s forward Lyle Foster hasn’t gone down well with a section of the media and fans of the senior national team, who are pained by the decision of the forward to snub taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

In the build up to the AFCON Foster withdrew’ from all football related activities for a period in 2023 to deal with mental health issues. He left football from the end of October till the middle of December when he made himself available for selection again.

It meant he missed the AFCON but after getting the all clear to continue his career, the striker with five goals in the English Premier League this season for relegated Burnley is expected to lead the line against the Super Eagles on the 7th of June in Uyo.

His return to international football is seen as a huge improvement in the squad of Bafana Bafana, who are second on the log in the group behind surprise leaders Rwanda.

The new coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Finidi George has been told to not hold any interaction with the media without approval by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Finidi was appointed as the substantive coach of the senior national team of Nigeria on a one year deal and will get down to work ahead of the world cup qualifiers games in June, where they will be up against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively.

Yesterday the coach was due to speak on a Twitter Space interview with a private media but was stoped by the NFF, who says he didn’t apply for a clearance to speak in an interactive session, saying he will be breaching a session of his contract if he goes ahead with the interactive session.

” In his contract it is stated clearly that media interviews are subject to approval. The same policy was in place with Jose Peseiro and the latter stages of the contract of Gernot Rohr. So it’s not a new thing or because he is indigenous. That has been the policy for a while”, a member of the communication department of the football house explained.

The coach will however be live on the official channel of the NFF in the coming days as he will be expected to defend his list of players called up for the upcoming world cup qualifiers, when it is made public later this month.

The newly appointed coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Finidi George has been given yrh mandate to make sure the team qualifies for the 2026 World Cup and get to at least the semi final of the next Africa Cup of Nations, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

It means his task which begins in June when the team take on South Africa and Benin Republic in the world cup qualifiers will require calling all the best available players for the team, with the coach also confirming that only players who are regulars at their club side will be given a look in.

One player who is keen on being a part of the new setup under the coach is Udinese right full back Kingsley Ehizibue. A former youth international for the Netherlands who was called up by former coach of the team Gernot Rohr.

He didn’t honor the call, with Rohr explaining that it was due to immigration issues as he current status as a Dutch citizen will be compromised if he switched his nationality, and obtained a Nigerian passport.

However that appears to not be the case anymore as his representative revealed to OwnGoalNigeria.com that the desire of the 28 year old is still to represent Nigeria at senior level ” Two years ago he voiced out his desperation to wear the colors of Nigeria. It is still the same burning desire and hopefully he will get a chance to be a part of the new setup”, he said.
