We Will Sack Him – NFF Chief Provides Update On Future Of Super Eagles Coach Peseiro

0

A chieftain of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says the football body will not hesitate to sack head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro if the team fall to another defeat tomorrow against Zimbabwe, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Nigeria started their campaign in the race to be at the 2026 World Cup on a shaky note drawing 1-1 against Lesotho in Uyo. A result that has made winning against Zimbabwe a must if they want to be in control of their destiny.

The result has also led to questions about the future of the coach , who has lost 60 percent of the games he has handled as coach since his appointment over a year ago.

His deal which was extended will terminate after the Africa Cup of Nations, where he has been told to at least get to the final of the tournament for the deal to be extended by two more years.

However all of that wouldn’t matter if Zimbabwe defeat the Super Eagles tomorrow in Rwanda according to a chieftain of the NFF, who spoke to OwnGoalNigeria.com just before the team departed for Rwanda.

” We will sack him if Zimbabwe get a win against us. There is nothing that says we must wait for the Africa Cup of Nations. We understand it didn’t work out well when Gernot Rohr was sacked close to the AFCON but this is entirely different. We will sack him to avoid missing out on another world cup and defeat to Zimbabwe will no doubt make it tough for us to qualify”, he rounded up saying.

Peseiro Rings Changes To Super Eagles Lineup For Zimbabwe Game After Stalemate Against Lesotho

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has made four changes to the senior national team of Nigeria ahead of their game against Zimbabwe in the race to be at the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, USA and Canada.

The Super Eagles started their campaign on a sour note by drawing 1-1 against minnows Lesotho at their home ground in Uyo. The result has now made winning against Zimbabwe non negotiable if they want to keep up with the dream of qualifying for the world cup.

Peseiro has also come under heavy fire with his role now under serious scrutiny with the team having an inglorious record of losing 60 percent of the games they have played since he was appointed as coach of the team.

He has responded by ringing changes to the set up ahead of tomorrow’s game with four players who started against Lesotho dropping out of the starting lineup.

He made two changes in defence with Bruno Onyemaechi coming in for Jamilu Collins, while Ola Aina takes the place of Bright Osayi-Samuel as the right back of the team.

In attack Moses Simon replaces Ademola Lookman on the left flank while Terem Moffi will take the place of Taiwo Awoniyi, who has returned back to England with a groin complaint.

We Don’t Understand What He Says Most Times – Super Eagles Players Laments Difficulties With Peseiro

0

Players of the senior national team of Nigeria say the communication is partly why the team is struggling to implement the ideas and understand the head coach of the team Jose Peseiro during games, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The team were held to a shock 1-1 draw in the world cup qualifiers by minnows Lesotho and left Nigeria for Rwanda, where they will take on Zimbabwe in their second game of the series.

Their style of play hasn’t been the best since the Portuguese took over as coach and it has resulted in the team losing 60 percent of their games the past one year. Already doubts are begining to emerge about his suitability for the role.

A cross section of the players of the team who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity to protect relationship said communication is a huge problem due to the coach’s poor english speaking ability.

They said most times they asked each other what he said or meant. Sometimes in the spur of the moment he speaks in Portuguese, a language that only three players in the team in Zaidu Sanusi, Bruno Onyemaechi and Chidozie Awaziem understands.

Nigeria 1-1 Lesotho 1: Player Ratings; Three Top Flops In Super Eagles Stalemate

0

The senior national team of Nigeria needed a goal from West Brom defender Semi Ajayi to salvage a point as they battled to a 1-1 draw against Lesotho in the opening game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, OwnGoalnigeria.com reports.

OwnGoalNigeria.com rates the players on parade for Nigeria in what was a poor performance from the Jose Peseiro led team.

Francis Uzoho – Didn’t have anything to do as Lesotho barely threatened, wasn’t at fault for the goal conceded by the team ……… 5/10

Bright Osayi-Samuel – Got forward really well however he didn’t quite get his final balls right………. 5.5/10

Jamilu Collins – Assured defensively but didn’t do quite much going forward……… 5/10

Semi Ajayi – Not scared of passing forward and playing from the back. Bossed the game really well with Lesotho not committed to attacking and when he did scored the goal that rescued Nigeria from defeat………..6/10

Calvin Bassey – Dominated alongside Ajayi at the  back, lost his man for the goal the team conceded and didn’t provide any form of threat going forward………. 4/10

Frank Onyeka – Didn’t know what was going on. Looked lost and didn’t quite connect with Iwobi as part of the midfield two. A very poor showing from the Brentford man…….. 4/10

Alex Iwobi – Tried as he could, he found it hard to motivate the rest of his teammates with the connection between Boniface and Awoniyi making his job a lot harder than it should be due to a lack of understanding……… 5/10

Kelechi Iheanacho – Got the assist for the goal that saved Nigeria from a humiliating defeat. Looked fired up for it but not entirely comfortable playing as a winger…….. 6/10

Ademola Lookman – On the strength of his performance should be dropped from not just the starting lineup but from the team. Moses Simon showed how far he is ahead of the Atalanta man following his introduction……. 4/10

Taiwo Awoniyi – A very poor performance from the Nottingham Forest forward which got worse when he missed a clear chance to put his team ahead. Not a game he will like to remember in a hurry……… 5/10

Victor Boniface – His form in the German Bundesliga wasn’t on show. Although he oozed class with some of his touches, still didn’t do enough to be a threat in the opponent’s box…… 6/10

Substitutes:

Moses Simon – The only substitute who had an impact in the game as he sparked the team to life upon his introduction…… 7/10

Semi Ajayi Rescues Super Eagles From Defeat Against Lesotho In World Cup Qualifiers

0

The senior national team of Nigeria needed a goal from West Brom defender Semi Ajayi to salvage a point as they battled to a 1-1 draw against Lesotho in the opening game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, OwnGoalnigeria.com reports.

The first half ended 0-0 with both teams, Nigeria in particular presented with chances upon chances to take the lead before the break.

Nigeria went into the game as favourite to win and go top of the group but found themselves trailing when the visitors stunned the Godswill Akpabio stadium with the opening goal with Motlomelo Mkwanazi rising highest to head home the opener from a corner kick in the 56th minute.

With Nigeria struggling to create any meaningful chance, head coach Jose Peseiro turned to Moses Simon and he wasted no time in making his mark after coming on for the ineffective and wasteful Ademola Lookman.

He forced a corner kick from which Semi Ajayi drew Nigeria level with a firm header from a Kelechi Iheanacho delivery from corner kick in the 67th minute. The goal ended as what saved the Super Eagles from an embarrassing defeat to minnow Lesotho.

Exclusive – Super Eagles Starting XI For Lesotho Clash, Peseiro Sticks With 4-2-4 Formation, Iheanacho Is New Captain

0

The head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has revealed the lineup for the team ahead of today’s game against Lesotho in the race to be at the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, USA and Canada.

We can exclusively reveal that the coach has decided to stick with his preferred 4-2-4 formation as they go all out in search of a huge win to put them in a good position as head of the group.

In goal he maintains his faith in Francis Uzoho despite his error prone displays in recent games. The back four will be the quartet of Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and Jamilu Collins.

With Wilfred Ndidi not available due to injury, the coach picked Frank Onyeka as the deepest lying midfielder with Fulham ace Alex Iwobi playing as the farthest in the midfield two.

Attack where the competition is heavy, the coach selected the quartet of Kelechi Iheanacho, Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi and Victor Boniface.

Iheanacho will wear the captain armband and play on the right with Lookman taking up the left wing slot ahead of Moses Simon. Boniface will play just behind the main striker in Taiwo Awoniyi, who got the nod ahead of Terem Moffi.

Starting XI: Uzoho, Osayi-Samuel, Collins, Ajayi, Bassey, Onyeka, Iwobi, Lookman, Boniface, Iheanacho, Awoniyi.

Nigeria Vs Lesotho – Peseiro Picks Iheanacho/Iwobi As New Super Eagles Captain

0

Ahead of the senior national team of Nigeria 2026 World Cup qualifiers game against Lesotho head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has picked a new captain for the team, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The team will be without the service of the substantial captain Ahmed Musa and his vice William Troost-Ekong. Kenneth Omeruo who is the third in the leadership group isn’t expected to start later today.

Moses Simon who is the next after the defender will also start from the bench per what we exclusively gathered forcing the coach to settle for one of the duo of Kelechi Iheanacho or Alex Iwobi as captain for the game.

It is a decision that hasn’t been made now but the mantle will definitely fall on one of the aforementioned duo, as they will be the longest serving players in the team expected to start today’s game.

A team source said a decision wasn’t reached as at when the lineup was made but it seems to favour Iheanacho more than Iwobi whom Peseiro prefers to wear the armband for the game.

Five Takeaways From Super Eagles Final Training Session Ahead Of World Cup Qualifiers Game

0

The senior national team of Nigeria had their final training session yesterday ahead of today’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers game Lesotho later today in Uyo.

Led by head coach Jose Peseiro, the training session lasted close to two hours with emphasis on how to approach the game particularly in the attacking third with the Super Eagles expected to swoop on their opponent.

Below are five things we noticed in the training session.

1. Emphasis On Shooting – The shooting practice was unusually lengthy with the coaches probably expecting Lesotho to play with a low block hence shooting from range will be decisive in breaking the duck.

2. All Out Attack- It’s clear that the team will play in the preferred 4-2-4 formation of the coach with a four man attack expected to create an overload in the box of Lesotho, who they expect to defend in numbers.

3. Set Piece Drills – With the expectation that the visitors will play with a low block, the coaches are of the opinion that making good use of set piece situation will be key to penetrating them. Hence they took more time to rehearse free kicks and corner kicks routine.

4. Awoniyi Edges Moffi In Attack – The battle for who will play as the arrow head of the attack for Nigeria with Victor Osimhen absent was narrowed to just two players in Terem Moffi and Taiwo Awoniyi. However the latter seems to be highly favoured to start with his sharpness in training.

5. No Debut For Tella – Newly invited Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella won’t make his debut in the game against Lesotho. Yesterday he wasn’t involved in the pre match drills of the team.

I Don’t Know Him – Peseiro Says He Has No Knowledge Of Ex Super Eagles Player With 101 Caps

0

The plans to have former goalkeeper and captain of the senior national team of Nigeria Vincent Enyeama to be a part of the set up of the team in the wake of the goalkeeper crisis rocking the team has been vetoed by head coach of the team Jose Peseiro.

A chieftain of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) told OwnGoalNigeria.com that the football house will draft the former Lille shot stopper to the team in an ambassadorial capacity to help lift the morale of the current shot stoppers in the team.

The idea is for Enyeama to help them respond better to backlashes from the fans as he  was once at the receiving end of same kind of attack suffered by  the goalkeepers,  particularly the first choice Francis Uzoho.

Peseiro admitted that the pressure that comes with the criticism has weakened the confidence of the goalkeepers in the team leading to errors as witnessed recently in the friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively.

At the pre match presser ahead of the game against Lesotho, he was asked if he thinks bringing back the former goalkeeper to speak with the likes of Uzoho and co particularly with the game taking place in the hometow of the former Super Eagles captain, the Portuguese coach blanked the question by saying he doesn’t know him.

Pressed further on the same matter he ended the conversation by saying he has faith in the present trainers for the shot stoppers hinting that he doesn’t need Enyeama.
