Expensive Flop – Club Fans Blast Super Eagles Star After Another Poor Display

0

Samuel Chukwueze was once again the target of fans of AC Milan after his team let slip a two goal lead to draw 2-2 against Lecce in the Italian Serie A yesterday, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

With Christian Pulisic unavailable, the summer signing from Villarreal was handed a start and played for almost 80 minutes before he was subbed off. His major contribution was setting up Tijjani Reijnders for the goal that put them two goals up just ten minutes before the half time break.

They however conceded twice in the second half to draw the game and even needed an intervention from VAR not to lose all three points with a late Lecce goal ruled out after a review.

Frustrated fans of the team targeted the 24 year old Nigerian who Milan signed for €20m plus €8m in bonuses, and they acquired a player who had the third-most successful dribbles in LaLiga last season behind Vinicius and Nico Williams.

Moreover, they got a player who had 11 goal contributions, while he had 24 across all competitions. That number he is yet to replicate at the Italian side with his two big misses against Borrusia Dortmund a sigh of the confidence crisis he is currently battling.

Yesterday, his contribution was heavily criticised with the Nigerian the only forward in the team, who is yet to find the back of the net so far this season.

Real Reason Why Ekong Might Not Play For Super Eagles Again With Peseiro As Coach After Latest Snub

0

The vice captain of the senior national team of Nigeria William Troost-Ekong was conspicuously missing from the list of players called up by head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro for the upcoming world cup qualifiers.

Nigeria will take on Lesotho and Zimbabwe on the 16th and 19th of November respectively as they begin the race to be at the 2026 World Cup. Their aim is to start on a sound note after the disappointment of losing out on a spot in the previous edition of the tournament.

Peseiro called up eight defenders for the games but left once again left out Ekong , he was also not called up for the friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively last month. As a matter of fact he hasn’t played in their last three games with the duo of Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey now the preferred duo.

Kenneth Omeruo is seen as back up to any of the aforementioned duo and despite the decision not to call Jordan Torunarigha who made his debut in the game against Mozambique, the coach didn’t look the way of Ekong rather he handed a recall to Chidozie Awaziem.

Awaziem hasn’t been involved in any competitive game for the team in over a year but his form for Boavista plus his ability to play in more than one role across the back line has helped him to force his way back into contention with the AFCON looming.

OwnGoalNigeria.com exclusively gathered that unlike Awaziem , Ekong who is a regular for Greek side PAOK might not play for the team again under Peseiro with the coach unimpressed with his inability to play from the back.

The coach want to play defenders, who will help the team build from deep as they aim to dominate possession in all games, something that Ekong isn’t comfortable with and when he was dropped for two straight games, he reacted poorly especially in the game against Sao Tome and Principe where we gathered that he confronted the coach.

His exclusion from the last two games is Peseiro’s way of stamping his authority on the team and sending a message to all the players that no act of indiscipline will be tolerated while he is in charge. There are fears that Ekong might not get a look in as long as he remains as coach.

Super Eagles Captain To Quit International Football After Omission From World Cup Qualifiers Squad

0

The head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro yesterday made public the list of players who will represent Nigeria when the world cup qualifiers begin on the 19th of November, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

23 players were called up for the games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe respectively. Two notable senior players in Ahmed Musa the captain and his vice captain William Troost-Ekong were left out of the squad.

Ekong has fallen out of favour with Peseiro and hasn’t played in the last two competitive games for the team and wasn’t called up for the test games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively, despite enjoying regular run of games at Greek side PAOK.

The same goes for Musa who is back to full fitness after missing the past three months through injury. He is however struggling to get into the team at Turkish side Sivasspor with his only appearance in a matchday squad since the opening day of the season coming against Artvin Hopaspor in the Turkish Cup.

Musa was an unused substitute in the game. He has since then not been selected in any matchday squad, a situation that has made him to reconsider not just his international future but also his club future.

Per what we exclusively gathered, the 31 year old has made up his mind that the next AFCON will be his last in the colours of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, a team he has represented since 2012. He will likely quit football in it’s entirety to focus on his chains of businesses that he has established over the years.

Sources close to the winger say he could bring the plans forward if his situation at club and national level stays the same between now and the end of the year.

Okoye Back As First Choice Tops List Of Five Expected Changes In Super Eagles Lineup For World Cup Qualifiers

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro is planning on making some changes to the starting lineup of the senior national team of Nigeria when they begin their campaign in the race to reach the 2026 World Cup, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The coach wants the team to start on a high by getting a commanding win in their first two games of the series against Lesotho and Zimbabwe respectively, hence will make some adjustments to his set up barring a last minute change of plans.

We can exclusively reveal that he has the intention of reinstating Maduka Okoye as first choice ahead of Francis Uzoho, who has been guilty of several high profile errors since reclaiming the first choice spot from Okoye.

Okoye impressed the emergency goalkeeper trainer Nuno Carrapato during the training drills ahead of the test games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively, but Uzoho kept in both games and unfortunately didn’t cover himself in glory.

Another change that is anticipated is at right back with Ola Aina expected to get the nod ahead of Bright Osayi-Samuel. At left back Bruno Onyemaechi will keep his spot in the absence of Zaidu Sanusi.

In midfield, Raphael Onyedika has won the heart of the technical crew with his performance during the above mentioned test games. He is set to keep his spot with Frank Onyeka with Joe Aribo the one who drops to the bench.

On the left Moses Simon will hold forte with Kelechi Iheanacho handed the role of playing from the right ahead of the duo of Ademola Lookman and newly invited Nathan Tella.

Victor Osimhen misses out due to injuries and his spot as the top striker will he handed to Taiwo Awoniyi with Victor Boniface expected to play alongside him in a two man attack.

Fifth Hattrick In Ten Months – Super Eagles Striker Steals The Headline With Perfect Hattrick In Europe

0

The star of yesterday’s Europa Conference League was one time Super Eagles Invitee Gift Orban with his hattrick helping his team to a 3-2 win over Iceland side Breiðablik to seal a spot in the knock out round, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The 21 year old who has failed to match his height of last season where he found the back of the net 20 times in 21 games, was handed a rare start and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Orban gave Gent the lead in the 5th minute but was hapless as his lost the lead and started trailing 1-2 before he decided to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and pulled his team to all three points.

He grabbed his brace in the 54th minute via the spot then ensured the match ball follows him home when he grabbed his hattrick in the 69th minute. It was his fifth hattrick in just ten months at the Belgium side he joined in January from second division Norwegian side Stabæk.

Since then he has scored five hattricks in games against Zulte Waregem, Basaksehir, Cercle Brugge, Pogoń Szczecin and yesterday’s feat in Iceland. He is highly tipped to leave the team in the January transfer window.

Mourinho Salute Ex Nigeria U20 Defender Over His Performance For Slavia Prague In Win Over Roma

0

The coach of Italian Serie A side Roma Jose Mourinho has praised the defence of Slavia Prague marshalled by former Nigeria U20 defender Igho Ogbu in his team’s 0-2 loss in the Europa League, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Mourinho’s team are already through to the knock out round of the tournament but the coach was keen to seal a win to keep his players motivation on a high ahead of this weekend Rome derby against Lazio.

They however conceded two goals in the second half to lose the game leaving the coach unhappy with his players, particularly his forwards who found it hard to break down the defence of the Czech Republic side.

” Credit to Slavia, they deserve to win because we didn’t create enough and even when we did their defenders were up to the task. We needed to win and we didn’t which is not making me happy , but if you don’t take your chances then you can’t win”, Mourinho said in the post game conference.

The defence he is referring to was anchored by Ogbu, who was a member of the 2019 Nigeria U20 team to the world cup in Poland. On three separate occasions he robbed Roma’s striker Romelu Lukaku denying him any sight at goal.

His form hasn’t gone unnoticed as he was provisionally invited to the Super Eagles for the final game in the AFCON qualifiers, but didn’t make the final cut for the game.

Why Peseiro Didn’t Include Adeleye, Zaidu, Jordan And Dele-Bashiru In Super Eagles Squad For World Cup Qualifiers

0

The list of players called up to the senior national team of Nigeria for the upcoming qualifiers games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe respectively was made public yesterday by the Nigeria Football Federation, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

23 players were called up for the two games which will be played on the 16th and 19th respectively in Uyo and way to Kigali, the adopted home ground of the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

Some players many expected to be in the squad for the game were not included, we picked four players namely Jordan Torunarigha, Adeleye Adeleye, Zaidu Sanusi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

On goalkeeper Adeleye we gathered, the Hapoel Jerusalem man was left out due to the difficulties in travelling out of Israel, no thanks to the ongoing war in the Gaza region. He is however still in the loop for a spot in the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Fit again Zaidu Sanusi was expected to be in the team after making his return for FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League game against Antwerp. However the invitation letters were sent out when his recovery for the game was still in doubt, hence his omission from the sqaud.

Former Germany youth international defender Jordan Torunarigha who made his debut in the test game against Mozambique was surprisingly not included in the team. Per what we gathered the Gent defender was left out due to the availability of players who can play in dual roles.

The likes of Bruno Onyemaechi, Ola Aina and Calvin Bassey can all play in more than one role for the team even Chidozie Awaziem was handed a return for a competitive fixture for the first time in over a year, based on not just his form but the fact that he can also fill in at right back.

Former Manchester City midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was widely expected to keep his spot in the team after bagging an assist in his debut game against Mozambique. He was left out by Peseiro, who picked Joe Aribo due to his experience of playing on the Africa continent.
