New Deal: Peseiro Wants “Bizarre” Clause That Kept Boniface, Orban Out Of Super Eagles Removed

0

The chairman of the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has been given a three days ultimatum to accept a pay cut or lose his position as coach of the team.

“The Technical Committee has given him Peseiro two days to respond to our proposed pay cut or we disengage him finally. We will allow him to continue if he accepts a reduction in his 70,000 USD monthly salary and other conditions of service”, he explained.

“If he turns down our proposal, we will consider appointing a coach to oversee the dead rubber game against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo, then we start to search for a new substantive coach that the NFF can afford to pay his salary.”

OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal that the other conditions of service mentioned by the NFF chief, includes the bizarre clause of having at least three players from the Nigeria Professional Football League in every squad and in tournaments.

Peseiro is said to be heavily opposed to the clause and wants it removed, arguing that it keeps some of the best players, who can challenge the regulars out of the team. A case study is the case of Victor Boniface and Gift Orban, two players the coach couldn’t have in his team despite their red hot form last season.

He said with the ultimatum of reaching at least the final of the Africa Cup of Nations and also qualifying for the World Cup, he wants to be totally in charge of players selection without needing to satisfy a clause by calling up a player he has no faith in.

In their argument, the NFF said aside from the fact that the clause helps them to save money in the light of high exchange rate in the area of flight tickets, It is also a way of putting the local league in the spotlight.

Already, Peseiro took the first step against the clause by calling up 23 foreign based players for the dead rubber AFCON qualifiers game against Sao Tome and Principe, saying it’s the only window he has to try some players based abroad who have been on his radar ahead of the start of the World Cup qualifiers in November.

0

The head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has been given a two days ultimatum by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to accept a pay cut or forfeit his position as coach of the team, OwnGoalNigeria.com understands.

Confirming the ultimatum, the chairman of the recently inaugurated technical committee of the NFF Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa said the coach has been told to accept a reduction on his $78,000a month pay in the next 48 hours, else he will be replaced.

Among the options being considered as his replacement are the trio of Austine Eguavoen, the head of the NFF technical department and Peseiro’s Nigerian assistants in Finidi George and Salisu Yusuf.

A Look At The Three New Players In Super Eagles Squad For AFCON Qualifiers Game Against Sao Tome & Principe

0

The senior national team of Nigeria will play their final game in the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations against Sao Tome and Principe on the 10th of September at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Still without a substantial coach following the expiration of the contract of the coach of the team Jose Peseiro, the list of players called up for the game was put together by the technical department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by former coach of the team Austine Eguavoen.

Per what we exclusively gathered, the list has at least three new players with two in the final list 23 man list of players while the others two are in the provisional list of 35 players called up for the game.  We take a look at the trio that we gathered made the list with doubts still around the fourth.

Slavia Prague defender Igho Ogbu tops the list with Bayer Leverkusen new signing Victor Boniface, who scored a brace last season last weekend in the Bundesliga also in the list of 23 officially called up for the game.

Gift Orban is the third player in the list but he is in the provisional list unlike the above mentioned duo. We also gathered that Jordan Torunarigha who recently concluded a switch of allegiance from Germany to Nigeria is likely in the list, but his inclusion is unconfirmed yet.

After the weekend games in Europe, the final 23 man list will be made public but already all players in the list have been sent return ticket and told to report to Uyo for the game.

Portuguese Side Keen On Letting Super Eagles Duo Leave To Ease Financial Difficulties

0

The financial situation at Portuguese top division side Boavista has forced the club into letting players leave for a fee before the close of the ongoing summer transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Boavista hope to generate funds from the sales of some players before the transfer window closes on Thursday in order to balance their books, a situation which has made it almost impossible for them to pay salaries and other bonuses due to the players of the team.

Among the players they are hoping to raise funds from their sales are the senior national team of Nigeria duo of Bruno Onyemaechi and Chidozie Awaziem. They have both been linked with an exit from the club but time is running out.

Although, they have been instrumental to their fine start of the season, that started with a win over defending Benfica and another win against Portimonense before last weekend draw against Casa Pia.

Onyemaechi is linked with fellow Portuguese side FC Porto but the most concrete offer that have been tabled for him came from French Ligue 1 side Lens. A bid of four million euros is said to have been lodged and even though coach of the team Petit is reluctant to let the defender leave , the offer is tempting due to their financial situation.

Awaziem was few details from joining Ligue 1 side Nantes but the move broke down with Boavista not open to the idea of allowing him leave for free, by terminating his contract over his claims of unpaid wages.

They have placed a fee of five million euros on him and their expectations is that the duo will fetch them at least ten million euros, if they are sold before Friday. An amount that will go a long way in easing their financial worries.

The Greatest Men’s Finals in Wimbledon History

0

There is no doubt that Wimbledon consistently delivers unforgettable memories and engaging moments for fans and audience members around the world. In 2023, the men’s final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic provided fans with jaw-dropping and mesmerizing moments during the traditional “all-white” tennis event.

In honor of this extraordinary event, iLOTBet explores four of the most legendary men’s Wimbledon finals in sports history.

Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer (2008)

Having endured two heart-wrenching defeats in the Wimbledon finals of 2006 and 2007 against Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal emerged determined to claim victory in their third successive encounter. Nadal faced off against Federer and bested the Swiss 6–4, 6–4, 6–7(5), 6–7(8), and 9–7 to secure his first Wimbledon championship.

Notably, this victory marked Nadal’s fifth Grand Slam title and his first outside of the revered French Open. The fact that Federer lost his first Grand Slam final outside of the French Open further underscored the significance of Nadal’s accomplishment. The championship match between Nadal and Federer inscribed its place in Wimbledon history as the second-longest in tournament history, lasting a grueling 4 hours and 48 minutes, interrupted by two rain delays.

Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic (2013)

Another historic game witnessed at Centre Court was Andy Murray’s 2013 win against Novak Djokovic. Coincidentally, the 10th anniversary of this win was celebrated amply at this year’s tournament.

This remains one of the most iconic Wimbledon wins as the British No. 1 – Murray had to overcome arguably the greatest pressure that has ever been placed on any sports- person due to Britain’s near-century-long longing for a male champion to follow Fred Perry’s final Wimbledon triumph in 1936.

Defeating the world #1 and the top seed at Wimbledon, in straight sets (6–4 7–5 6–4) made the moment even more iconic. Murray was able to beat Djokovic again in straight sets, with only the very last game of the match (in which Djokovic had several chances to break Murray’s serve and thereby prolong proceedings) proving particularly troublesome.

Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer (2019)

The 2019 final remains fresh in the memories of many. It was yet another heavyweight duel between Federer and Novak Djokovic, highlighting why the Wimbledon finals are an incredible spectacle of drama and finesse. After a grueling battle of nerves and endurance over 4 hours and 57 minutes, Djokovic emerged victorious, claiming his 5th Wimbledon crown and 16th Grand Slam, end route to his current record of 23 titles.

Djokovic also became the first man since Bob Falkenburg at the 1948 Wimbledon Championships to win the title after being championship points down, having saved two when down 7–8 in the fifth set. Moreover, it was the first Wimbledon where a final set tiebreak rule was introduced.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic (2023)

Carlos Alcaraz, playing in his debut Wimbledon final, took the tennis world by storm when he ousted record Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller. The amazing turn of events, the defeat of Djokovic in a tiebreak, the five-hour-long final, the global attention, and the triumph over the ultimate obstacle to a Wimbledon title – Djokovic, there is little debate as to why this final ranks amongst our most iconic Wimbledon finals.

The Serb was attempting to equal Federer’s all-time Wimbledon record total of eight Men’s Singles titles, and he was also on course to complete the Calendar Grand Slam – the actual Grand Slam of winning all four Majors in a single calendar year, having already conquered the previous two Slams in Melbourne and Paris.

iLOTBet believes it’s an ideal “David and Goliath” tale. Test your fate while betting on your favorite tennis stars on the Best Online Betting Platform in Nigeria, iLOTBet.

34 Provisionally Invited, 24 In Final List – All You Need To Know About Super Eagles Squad For AFCON Qualifiers

0

The list of players called up to the senior national team of Nigeria for the AFCON qualifiers game against Sao Tome and Principe has a total of 34 players penciled down for possible inclusion in the final 24 man list for the game, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

As first reported as well, the list was compiled by the technical department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by Austine Eguavoen, who will likely lead the team in the event that an agreement isn’t reached on the extension of the coach of the team Jose Peseiro.

Sources said Peseiro submitted the list of 34 players with 23 of them officially invited and sent it for approval to the technical department, they in turn now questioned why all players in the list are foreign based as opposed to the agreement that at least three players should be picked from the local scene in every list.

Peseiro defended it by saying that, the game which is a dead rubber tie with Nigeria already through to the AFCON is the last window to try some foreign based players like Victor Boniface, Gift Orban, Igho Ogbu and Alhassan Yusuf who he has been monitoring for a while, ahead of the start of the world cup qualifiers in November.

The discussion was halted with focus mainly on his contract renewal, however sources say they feel the list has been tempered with by the addition of a player from the NPFL and also axing some foreign based players.

Meanwhile, the battle for who will lead the team in the event that an agreement isn’t reached with Peseiro is also a heated debate, much more than the players who were called up to the game .

On the players side, the final list of 24 will be made public after this weekend game in Europe, where all players on the list will be monitored and also checks will be made on those who will be replaced in the event of an Injury, their replacement will come from the provisional list of 34.

Why CAF Didn’t Allow Finidi George Sit On Enyimba’s Bench – CAF Chief Explains, Kanu Exposed

0

CAF head of safety and security Dr Christian Emeruwa has explained why the Africa football governing body didn’t allow the coach of Enyimba Finidi George to sit on the team’s technical bench during their CAF Champions League clash with Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya.

Finidi was told alongside his assistant that they both don’t have the required license to sit on the bench despite the fact that he has a UEFA A license, while his assistant Olarewaju Yema holds a UEFA C license.

Enyimba were yesterday knocked out of the tournament after a 0-0 draw at home in the second leg after losing the first leg 3-4 away in Libya. Their exit led to an inquest about the decision on why the coaches were barred from sitting on the bench and Emeruwa, who also doubles as a FIFA security officer gave the below explanation.

“CAF intention is to raise the standard of coaching education in Africa, this is why to be on the bench for CL you either have a CAF A License or UEFA Pro license.

Or other sister Confederation Pro licence while the assistants are to have a minimum of CAF B which unfortunately Finidi and his assistants do not have in this case.

CAF accepts anyone with a CAF A and UEFA Pro, AFC Pro or any Confederation Pro licence to serve as Head Coach for CL and assistants must have minimum of CAF B.

This rule applies to all across the continent and it’s not new”.

Reacting to the above statement, a backroom staff of Enyimba said the situation could have been averted if the new chairman of the team Kanu Nwankwo contacted the former management of the team.

He said the rule has been in place for two years but Enyimba always has a way around it like most teams in Africa. But Kanu who has left everything in the hands of his appointee Ifeanyi Ekwueme, a novice just like him had no clue on circumventing the requirement.

Slavia Prague Confirms Invitation Of 23 Year Old Centre Back To Super Eagles Squad For AFCON Qualifiers

0

Czech Republic side Slavia Prague have  confirmed the invitation of 23 year old centre back Igho Ogbu to the senior national team of Nigeria for their dead rubber AFCON qualifiers game against Sao Tome and Principe, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria is already through to the tournament making the game against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo a formality, which the interim technical crew of the Nigerian team wants to use to try new players ahead of not just the AFCON but the World Cup qualifiers which begins in November.

In defence is where the team is currently looking for younger options with most of the players in that position in their 30’s or close to. That probably explains the invitation of Ogbu which was confirmed by the coach of the team, while speaking about the players at his disposal.

“Honestly, I would like at least one more player. We know what the injuries and things are like, the national team will come, for which more than 80% of the staff will go. For example, we already know that Ogbu will go,” said Jindřich Trpišovský at the press conference.

Ogbu, a former junior international for Nigeria at U17 and U20, where he played in all but one of Nigeria’s game at the 2019 U20 World Cup in Poland had his breakthrough in Europe last season, when he joined the Czech Republic side from Norwegian side Lillestrom. He made 21 appearances in all competitions last season.

A form which he carried into this season with six games already under his belt. A chance to add to that number was made impossible after his red card in the Europa League qualifiers against Ukrainian side Dnipro.
