Yarma- Pitso Mosimane Is Keen On Replacing Jose Peseiro As Super Eagles Coach

0

The future of the coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Jose Peseiro is one that is not yet certain with nine days to the end of his contract as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.comreports.

Nigeria sealed a spot at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations with a game to spare after a 3-2 win over Sierra Leone last weekend. The win still hasn’t sparked talks of a new deal for the Portuguese coach.

Reports have it that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will be open to keeping the coach if he agrees to a pay cut from his present $70,000 a month salary. If otherwise they will be forced into contracting another coach.

One coach who is keen on taking over as coach of the Nigerian team in the event that a deal isn’t reached is South African coach Pitso Mosimane according to Nigeria football administrator Farouk Yarma.

Confirming what OwnGoalNigeria.com wrote about the interest of the coach in managing the senior national team of Nigeria, Yarma told Totorinews.com that the gaffer who recently joined Al Wahda in Abu Dhabi is still keen on the Super Eagles job.

“Pitso Mosimane is serious about coaching the Super Eagles. He has a strong desire to be in charge of the team,” Farouk Yarma he was quoted as saying in a telephone conversation with  www.totorinews.com.

He said despite his move to Al Wahda he still hasn’t stopped thinking of the possibility of managing the senior national team of Nigeria. “Yes. He has signed for a new club Al Wahda but that does not stop him thinking about the possibility of coaching Super Eagles in the nearest future.

“He is not joking about the Super Eagles project. He knows what he can achieve with thr arrays of highly gifted Nigerian footballers at his disposal.
So, don’t think he is not serious about it or it is just a kite being flown to catch cruise in the Nigerian media space”, he said.

The former member of the NFF Marketing and TV right Committee member rounded up by saying that whenever the job becomes vacant, Mosimane is more than qualified to be given a chance as he is the best coach in Africa.

“Nobody can deny the fact that Mosimane is the best coach in Africa. I think he is the ideal candidate to coach the Super Eagles anyday or anytime the position is declared vacant,” he concluded.

Last season, which was his first professional season in Europe, he played 19 games in the league and made a total of 29 appearances in all competitions for the modest Bulgarian side.

He was reportedly on the radar of teams in Denmark, Belgium and Sweden but Dynamo were the only team that met his valuation by the Bulgarian side. It is believed that his Nigerian academy is entitled to a certain percentage of his transfer fee.

0

As many as five players of the senior national team of Nigeria will join teams in Saudi Arabia before the end of the current transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Saudi Arabia has emerged as the destination for lot of players in this summer transfer window following the decision of the government of the country to inject funds into the league and specific teams.

Explained – The Scenario That Will See Osimhen Become Napoli Highest Ever Paid Player Or Record Sale

0

The statement made by Aurelio De Laurentiis, the president of Napoli that they have reached an agreement in principle for Victor Osimhen to extend his deal at the club for a further two years, has opened a whole lot of possibilities about his likely sale or improved pay, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The president who recently appointed Rudi Garcia as coach of the team following the departure of Luciano Spalletti made the revelation at the press conference, where the Spaniard was unveiled.

” We have an agreement in principle for a two-year extension, but if an offer impossible to refuse for the good of the club arrives, we will evaluate it”, he said when asked about the possibility of the Nigerian leaving the team in the summer particularly with two years left on his deal.

A look at this statement means it’s either the Nigerian stays or leave for an astronomical amount that has never been received by the club before. If he is to stay he will earned an amount that no one has ever been paid in the history of the club.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli will not be able to offer Osimhen a salary above €6m a year if he is to extend his stay at the club, a substantial increase from the €4.5m a year he presently earns.

But based on how much Napoli will demand form potential suitors, he could demand for a higher pay. For instance if he is valued at €120m , he could earn around €10m a year if he joins either of Chelsea, Manchester United or PSG, the three teams that have been rumoured to be keen on his services.

Another Italian publication Corriere dello Sport says Napoli will demand nothing less than €150m for his transfer making him their biggest sale ever. If he stays the €6m a year he will reportedly receive will also be a record pay never been earned by any player in the history of the club.

A meeting with his representatives will take place soon and a clear idea on how much Napoli will demand will be communicated as well as the amount Napoli will be willing to commit as his salary a year.

Belgium Champions Antwerp Agrees Deal To Sign 16 Year Old Nigerian Boy Wonder From French Side Amiens

0

In preparation for their campaign in the UEFA Champions League Belgium champions Antwerp have added 16 year old Nigerian striker George Ilenikhena to their squad after reaching agreement with his French side Amiens, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

Ilenikhena is expected to arrive in Belgium today to meet with the team officials and also have a routine medical ahead of his unveiling. He becomes the first signing of the surprise champions of the league in Belgium.

The Lagos born forward came into limelight last season when he scored for scored for Amiens in their 1-1 draw against Bordeaux. The goal made him the first player born in 2006 to score in one of the top two leagues in England, France, Germany, Italy or Spain.

That goal earned him a regular run in the side but he only added only one more goal from the 15 he played. He however showed enough promise to tempt Antwerp into luring him from the French side.

He is expected to sign a five year deal and will be the second Nigerian on the books of the club with Alhassan Yusuf, the other Nigerian at the club. Ilenikhena is eligible for Nigeria and France but hasn’t been capped by any of the country at any international level.

Coach of the Nigeria U20 team Ladan Bosso tried to have him in his U20 team for the U20 World Cup but the timing of the tournament made it impossible for him to be released by his team.

5 rising stars of African football according to 1xBet

0

The global betting company 1xBet, the Confederation of African Football’s official partner, sums up the season with a story about the main football hopes of the continent.

Mohammed Kudus, Ghana

In the 2019/20 season, the young Ghanaian striker scored 11 goals in the Danish league and went from Nordsjælland to Ajax for 9 million euros. Since the days of Nwankwo Kanu and Finidi George, the Amsterdam club has helped reveal many African footballers’ talents. Still, the very young Kudus could only become the main one in the 2022/23 season – injuries, great competition and lack of experience interfered.

This season, the bright dribbler again scored 11 goals, but already in the Eredivisie. He also played well at the World Cup in Qatar and showed himself in the Champions League, where he scored 4 goals. Kudus scored against each of Ajax’s group stage rivals – Rangers, Liverpool and Napoli suffered. After that, world publications reported that Kudus’ contract with Ajax is until 2025, and the player does not plan to renew it.

This means that in the summer of 2023, Mohammed will almost certainly be in one of the 5 strongest European championships. Interest in him is attributed to Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Newcastle, while Manchester United is considered the favorite in the fight for the player – after all, Mancunians manager Eric ten Hag knows Kudus very well from his work at Ajax.

Gift Orban, Nigeria

On March 15, 2023, Nigerian Gent’s striker Gift Orban entered his name in the history of European football. In the Conference League match against Istanbul Bashahsehir, the 20-year-old scored the fastest hat-trick in the history of UEFA club competitions – it took him only 3 minutes and 25 seconds to ensure his team a convincing victory.

Gift came to Europe only in 2022, starting performances in the second division of the Norwegian championship. 16 goals in 22 matches for Stabaek helped the team break into the Eliteserien, and the striker received an offer from the Belgian club. As part of Gent, he scored 20 goals in all tournaments, and these 6 months will likely be the last for a player in the Buffalos.

The player says he dreams of playing in the Premier League, and this summer, there will definitely be clubs in the world’s strongest league that will be ready to pay a substantial amount for Orban. Such a scorer will be a great gift for fans of any team.

Amad Diallo, Ivory Coast

Unlike previous players on our talent list, Diallo is already playing in England. Moreover, he signed a contract with a top club in 2021, when the Ivorian, who had barely managed to gain a foothold in the adult Atalanta team, came with a tight wallet of Manchester United.

Diallo moved to Italy as a child and in 2019 became the first player born in 2002 to make his debut in Serie A. He was considered one of Atalanta’s main hopes, but 25 million euros and another 15 million possible bonuses quickly convinced the Italian club to part with the talented player. In the new club, although Amad scored in the first season against Milan in the Europa League, he almost did not get a chance to gain a foothold in the base. In 2022, he managed to go on loan to the Scottish Rangers and then went to Sunderland.

However, the appearance of Amad transformed the team: it claimed to be in the Premier League but could not get past Luton in the playoff series. Diallo has scored 14 goals and, unlike Sunderland, will almost certainly start the new season in the Premier League. Will he return to Manchester, or will the club let him adapt to a new level in a team with lesser goals?

Nicolas Jackson, Senegal

In the 2021/22 season, Villarreal was literally one-half away from reaching the Champions League final, but Liverpool held on and then hit back. “Yellow Submarine” could not qualify for the main European Cup and through La Liga, became only 7th. The club expected that in the new season, it would be able to regain its place in the top 4, but this did not happen – the team finished only 5th. At the same time, the club revealed the talent of the young Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson, who became the team’s top scorer with 12 goals. And if he played in the championship not 26 matches, but at least 7-8 games more – who knows, perhaps we would now be talking about the chances of Jackson and his partners in the next season of the Champions League.

Jackson joined Villarreal in 2020, but it took him 2 years to establish himself in the first team. His success in the first part of the season helped not only to get into the Senegal national team (interestingly, Nicholas himself was born in the Gambia) for the World Cup but also attracted the attention of the English Bournemouth. A transfer fee of £22.5m was agreed, but an injury forced him to stay in Spain and take full advantage of his chance. This summer, Jackson may be in a more status club.

Pape Matar Sarr, Senegal

An up-and-coming Tottenham midfielder, who this season began to appear in the first team. The player attracted the attention of Spurs with performances in the French Metz, from where he moved to London in 2021, only to immediately go on loan to the same French club. Alas, Antonio Conte is not too fond of messing around with young players, no matter how talented they may be.

But now the Italian is gone, and Sarr has a big opportunity. The player is reliable when passing (the percentage of accuracy in the Premier League is over 90), efficient and technical enough not to be afraid of the opponent’s pressure. In the last game of the 2022-23 season, he provided his first Premier League assist in a rout against Leeds.

At the end of 2022, Sarr was named the best young player in Africa. Perhaps he will claim a similar award among adults in a few years.

Confusion Over Jose Peseiro’s Future, New Coach For Super Eagles?

0

With just ten days left for the contract of the coach of the Super Eagles Jose Peseiro to expire, there is no clear statement yet on what the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will do next as regarding his role, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria have already booked a spot at next year Africa Cup of Nations with their 3-2 win away to Sierra Leone in the penultimate round of qualifiers games for the AFCON. Their qualification has turned their last game in the qualifiers series against Sao Tome and Principe is now a dead runner encounter.

However, there is no idea on who will lead the team into the game with two different sources at the glass house giving conflicting reports about the future of the Portuguese coach.

A source who spoke to OwnGoalNigeria.com shortly after the win over Sierra Leone said the coach who is presently on  a $70,000 a month salary will be retained but on a lower salary saying the football house can’t afford his current pay, which was agreed with the previous board.

He said a decision on his contract will be made public soon with the expectation that he will be given a fresh mandate to ensure the team wins the next Africa Cup of Nations, which will trigger a two year extension that will extend till after the qualifiers for the next World Cup.

His take is entirely different from another secretariat staff of the football house, who said the exit of the coach will be made public in ten days time, saying the reason why he wasn’t sacked instantly was because he made it to the AFCON with the win over Sierra Leone.

In his words, a new coach will be announced immediately and he will be in charge of the team for the final qualifiers game against Sao Tome and Principe. He didn’t however mentioned if the coach to be is an indigenous coach or a foreign coach.

Peseiro Hints At Call Up For Ex Germany Youth International Who Recently Switched To Super Eagles

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has revealed that there will likely be some new faces in the team when they take on Sao Tome and Principe in the final round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria booked a spot at next year Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-2 win away to Sierra Leone yesterday making their last game in the series inconsequential giving room for the coach to tinker with his team selection.

Ahead of the game against Sierra Leone in Monrovia, Peseiro was asked about the non invitation of the top scorer in the English Championship Chuba Akpom, a situation which he blamed on technical issue around his eligibility.

We discovered it has to do with getting a Nigerian passport. While addressing the issue on Akpom, he dropped a note on Jordan Torunarigha who recently switched nationality to Nigeria. ” Akpom not available now , the same as Jordan Torunarigha. When they are we will take evaluate their chances with the team”, the coach said.

Gent defender Torunarigha famously snubbed the chance of going to the World Cup with Nigeria in 2018 saying his father Ojokojo, a former football player in the Nigeria local league advised him against representing Nigeria.

He went on to play for Germany at several youth levels before a serious knee injury cut short his progress at Hertha Berlin. A loan move to Gent to regain match sharpness was turned into a permanent deal one year later.

One week ago, he backtracked on his international career saying his allegiance now lies with Nigeria and he hope to follow in the footsteps of his father by playing for Nigeria.

“My father has already played for the Nigerian national team, so I’m really happy that I can follow in his footsteps now. My goal is to be part of the Nigerian team at the 2026 World Cup”, he told RAN.

Peseiro’s statement shows he is aware of his availability and will hand him a chance most likely in the final game of the AFCON qualifiers, which will serve as the first warm up game ahead on the tournament in Cote D’Ivoire.
