Burnley Star Player Has His Mind On Playing For Super Eagles After Securing EPL Promotion – I Want Nigeria

0

Burnley have been confirmed as the first team to gain promotion to the English Premier League after their 3-1 win over Middlesbrough gave them an unassailable lead at the top of the table in the English Championship.

In that game, 23 year old Nathan Tella who is on loan to the team from English Premier League side Southampton Nathan Tella grabbed an assist, his 5th of the season in addition to his 17 goals in the 36 games he has played in the English Championship.

In all competitions, he has 19 goals in 43 games and with his form the winger should no doubt be in the discussion for a Super Eagles call up, following his open declaration on playing for Nigeria ahead of England at senior level despite representing the Three Lions at youth levels.

Tella told the Daily Echo in 2022: “Yeah, it’s true. I haven’t been contacted as such but I’m in the process of sorting out my passport for them.
Obviously, I would like to have the chance, if I’m called upon to be able to play for Nigeria.

“I would love to play international football. That’s always been a dream of mine. If I went away with Nigeria, it would be something new and new experiences bring out the best in players.”

His statement means the ball is now in the court of the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro.

Super Eagles Coach Peseiro Backtracks On Inclusion Of English Top Scorer Akpom, Set For Maiden Call

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has back down on his decision to exclude the top scorer in the English Championship Chuba Akpom in his plans for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Peseiro was asked why Akpom who has 26 goals from 36 games this season for Middlesbrough has been cleared to play for the senior national team of Nigeria, following a successful switch of allegiance process after representing England at youth levels.

“I appreciate, I know this player, my staff also. We see these players for each weekend, we see 48 match, watching all the players. Yes he (Akpom) is a good player I know but in this moment. I don’t have enough confidence in him but in the future of course, it’s open for everyone”, he replied during the post match conference ahead of the game against Guinea Bissau in Abuja.

With Akpom once again finding the back of the net on Friday against Burnley, the coach has somehow admitted that the 27 year old, who is the first Boro player to score in seven consecutive games at the Riverside Stadium deserves a call up.

The coach has already reached out to the representatives of the player to explain his statement which he felt was lost in translation as he meant no disrespect. He assured them that he will be in the mix for the call up for the games against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.

Nigeria need just three points from their remaining two games in the qualifiers to seal a spot at the Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Côte d’Ivoire next year.

Afraid Of Osimhen Or Not Interested – Confusion Over Balogun’s Decision To Pick USA Ahead Of Super Eagles

0

The decision of the top scorer in the French Ligue 1 Folarin Balogun to pick USA ahead of Nigeria after making up his mind to switch allegiance from England, where he is a youth international has generated some sort of confusion.

Born in New York to Nigerian parents but later migrated to England with his parents. It means he is eligible for all three countries and at youth level he played four times for the USA at Under-18 level. He has since been capped by England at U17s and Under-21s.

Om loan to Reims from Arsenal he has taken Ligue 1 by storm with 18 goals this season making him the top scorer. His future at Arsenal will be made clear in the summer, and it is at the same time that he is expected to announce where his senior international allegiance lies.

For now he appears to be leaning more towards the United States of America and was at their camp during the last international break after withdrawing from the England U21 team due to injury. That decision is said to be connected with his desire to play for USA ahead of Nigeria.

It is said just like his club career, he wants a team where he is sure going to get games and that isn’t possible with Nigeria due to the presence of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen. But sources close to the player said he was only contacted two years ago by Nigeria and since then no contact.

They claimed he has never ruled out a switch to Nigeria but no one has approached him hence his decision to let that option go and focus on either England or the USA, where he has already had talks with the senior national team coaches of both teams.

Exclusive- Bosso Picks Red Hot “Osimhen II” For Flying Eagles Camp Ahead Of U20 World Cup

0

Head coach of the Nigeria U20 team Ladan Bosso has drawn up a preliminary list of players who will make the final selection of the Nigeria U20 team for the U20 World Cup.

The coach steered his team to the tournament with a third placed finish at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations. Ahead of the World Cup, he is planning on improving the team in key areas particularly in attack.

Bosso has already extended invitation to some players for the tournament, which presently has no host following the decision of FIFA to strip Indonesia off the hosting right of the tournament over a row on the participation of Israel.

One of the players, who have been called up to beef up the attack of the team is Doma United forward Charles Chibuike popularly called Osimhen due to his striking resemblance to Napoli and Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen.

Three days ago , the forward scored his fourth goal in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with a bullet header to power his newly promoted side to a 2-1 win over Niger Tornadoes in Gombe.

Speaking on his resemblance with the Napoli star , Chibuike said he has been embarrassed by some people while making reference to his semblance with Osimhen, but he is however keen on reaching the same heights like the forward, who is already a senior international for Nigeria.

“It makes me happy that I have a striking resemblance with Osimhen. I didn’t notice it but when I arrived Kaduna, people asked if I was Osimhen. I always told them no. It got to an extent that when people saw me in the market or other public places, they would rush and start snapping pictures with me, including non-Nigerians”, he told Punch.

“I have some few embarrassing moments because of my resemblance to Osimhen. Sometimes guys will jokingly ask me to question my mum because of the resemblance and this makes me feel bad sometimes.  Some have asked if my mother took in for Osimhen’s father, but I always let them know that my mother will not do such thing.

“Osimhen inspires me a lot; people say I play like him but the truth is I hardly watched him then. When I started, I challenged myself to work hard and play like him because he is a very good player, but I still believe I can do better”, he stated

Ex Eagles Captain Mikel Tells Peseiro- Super Eagles Should Play A Better Brand Of Football, They Are Poor

0

Former captain of the senior national team of Nigeria John Obi Mikel says he hasn’t been impressed with the Super Eagles display under Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, OGN reports.

Peseiro will be a year old in the job in May and so far can only boast of three wins in nine games. The wins all came in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers games against Sierra Leone, Soa Time and Principe and Guinea Bissau respectively. Teams that Nigeria should always beat regardless of who is in charge.

Embarrassing defeats like the loss at home to Guinea Bissau and the 0-4 thrashing in the hands of Portugal has made calls for the manager’s contract not to be extended when it expires in May.

Speaking on the performance of the team under the Portuguese, Mikel told OGN that nothing has changed since the departure of Rohr and the brand of football the team is playing now is poor and not beffiting for their standard.

” They (Super Eagles) should play better than what we are seeing at the moment. The coach has been there for a year and we still can’t see any visible change in the way the team was under the previous manager (Gernot Rohr). The team is poor and you can’t leave out blaming the coach”, Mikel exclusively told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Forgotten Super Eagles Goalkeeper The Hero For Swiss Side FC Lugano, Powers Them Into Swiss Cup Final

0

Swiss side FC Lugano progressed to their second consecutive Swiss Cup final after a 5-3 penalty shoot out win over Servette after both teams stayed tied at 2-2 after extra time, OGN reports.

The hero for Lugano was goalkeeper Sebastian Osigwe who hasn’t been called up to the senior national team of Nigeria for almost three years now. All three times he has been called up he wasn’t handed his debut.

Yesterday, he showed how useful he can be to the Nigerian set by stopping two spot kicks during penalty shot out to seal a spot in the final for his team. It was his tenth game of the season in all competitions this season.

In the league he has kept in seven games and yesterday’s game where he was the hero of the game was his third in the Cup and it is one that he will want to remember for a while. It could also be the game that puts him in the frame for another call up to the senior national team of Nigeria.

Super Eagles are having a mini crisis in the area of goalkeepers with first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho suspended for the next AFCON qualifiers games against Sierra Leone. The back up choices during the last international games Chijioke Anigboso and Victor Sochima  were both getting a call up to the team for the first time.

No doubt, coach of the team Jose Peseiro won’t be willing to risk the aforementioned duo paving the way for the 29 year old Osigwe to be in the conversation for a possible debut for the Super Eagles. The Swiss born shot stopper was also a part of the Nigeria U20 team in 2013.

Respected English journalist, Davis Ornstein also wrote in his column for The Athletic that the 19 year old is on the radar of the senior national team of Nigeria for a potential call up, explaining that it was part of the reason why he moved to a top division side.

The chairman of Mavlon FC has described as false reports that Nigeria U20 winger Ibrahim Mohammed Beji is facing a likely ban from football for signing for two different Spanish teams.

Reports has it that Beji who is one of the star palyers in the Nigeria U20 team signed for Spanish Segunda side Leganes immediately after starring for Nigeria at the WAFU B championship, where they emerged as winners.

Beji reportedly signed for another Segunda side in Cartegena few months after switching to another local team in Nigeria called Mavlon FC. It was said he was bought for €200, 000 with the aim of transferring him for around €1m.

Speaking on the back of the allegations of the  double transfer Mavlon FC Boss, Bar. Kenneth Agadagba said there is no truth in the report saying the entire transfer of the wing forward was done properly. He disclosed this in a chat with the media in Abuja.

“Mavlon FC will continue to focus on the development of her players both locally and internationally. We are glad to inform that we transfered Mohammed Beji to Cartegena in Spain,” Bar. Agadagba said.

(Picture) – Napoli Fans Link Osimhen’s Injury To His Missing Face Mask- Gets New Customized Mask

0

Nigeria international striker Victor Osimhen is aiming to return to action in a week time from the muscle injury he picked up while on international duty with the senior national team of Nigeria.

Osimhen missed the team’s heavy 0-4 defeat against AC Milan last weekend in the Italian Serie A and will also miss the game against Lecce this weekend. He is however expected to return for the UEFA Champions League game against AC Milan.

Superstitious fans of Napoli have linked the injury of the top scorer to his missing face mask. The mask was lost in the pitch encroachment that enveloped the final whistle of the senior national team of Nigeria’s 1-0 win away to Guinea Bissau.

They believe the mask is his good luck charm and it is part of the reason why he hasn’t suffered the same Injury demons that plagued his first two years at the team. Playing without it they believe will make him suffer his fate of the previous two seasons.

To that extent, he has been presented with another face mask, this time around it is customized with a VO9 trademark, which translate to Victor Osimhen 9. The protective mask has become his trademark symbol and have kids wearing it in his respect.

He was first given the mask for protection after a facial surgery but has been told he can play without it. He however feels very comfortable hence the decision to countinue playing with the mask, now seen as a good luck charm by fans of his team.
