0

Head coach of the Nigeria U20 team Ladan Bosso has handed a call up to Istanbulspor defender Inainfe Michael Ologo to join the camp of the team ahead of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bosso who is keen on strengthening his defence has gotten assurance from the camp of the player that he will be available for the tournament which will run from February to March in Egypt.

Ologo is the second central defender based abroad who has been added to the squad with the team set to be without the first choice centre defence duo of Bolu Sholumade and Razak Adegbite. The pair were instrumental in the run to lifting the WAFU B championship in Niger Republic.

The other defender is Trelleborgs of Sweden record signing Abel Ogwuche. One among the duo is expected to pair with Nasarawa United defender Benjamin Fredrick who was the standout defender in the team in their first phase of camping.

One week ago, 19 year old Ologo produced a performance well above his age despite his team losing 1-2 to league giants Galatasaray. He was on for the entire duration of the game which was decided by a brace from Bafetembi Gomes. The lessons from that game will come handy for the Nigeria U20 team at the AFCON.

Forgotten Super Eagles Forward Hits Brace, Takes Goal Tally To 1O In France

0

With the senior national team of Nigeria set to resume competitive football in March, one player who is pushing to be in the frame for a call up is Bordeaux forward Josh Maja, who is currently on a good run in front of goal.

Since making his debut for Nigeria in the 2-2 draw against Ukraine in a friendly game, Maja hasn’t gotten a look in largely due to his inconsistent club form but he appears to have found his feet lately in Ligue 2.

Maja took his goal count for the season to ten with a brace in the 2-2 draw against Caen that keeps the hope of his team returning to the French Ligue 1 alive as they are second behind Le Harve in the Ligue 2 standing.

The 24 year old struck in the 4th and 25th minute to hand his team a two goal lead but their failed to hang on to all three points by conceding twice in the second half. Both teams ended the game with ten men owing to red cards.

His run in front of goal will no doubt put him in the frame for a look in when the team converge in March, particularly if he continue scoring for at least the period before the naming of the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The chances of Moses Simon leaving Ligue 1 side Nantes in the January transfer window has been reduced to zero, OwngoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Simon was widely tipped to leave in January after rejecting the option of extending his stay at the French side. He will be left with a year to run on his deal at the end of the season making the option of selling him in January more appealing.

However Nantes have made it clear that he won’t be sold in January unless a mammoth offer worth over £20m is lodged. They are open to doing business for him for half the amount in the summer per what we exclusively gathered.

English Premier league side Newcastle United were the team who explored the chances of signing him to add depth to their squad but their inquiry was knocked back with a firm not for sale response. 27 year old Simon is also courting interest from fellow Ligue 1 side in Rennes, Nice failed with a €5m bid for his service in the summer.

Presently the vice captain of the senior national team of Nigeria, he is enjoying one of his most prolific season at the club with five goals and two assists in the league after 15 games. He is one goal away from his tally of six goals in 30 games last season.

RB Leipzig is known as one of the best teams in the German Bundesliga in recent years. They are also widely regarded for their ability to spot and groom some of the best young players in the world.

One name that has been mentioned among some of the best talents in the squad at the moment is 17 year old defender Kelechi Daniel Ihendu. He used the test games during the World Cup break to play his way into the first team plans of the club.

He has made the bench in all of their games ahead of the return of the Bundesliga. A remarkable feat for a 17 year old considering the arrays of talents available to the team due to their rich scouting network. His rise has already earned him praises from the first team coach Marco Rose.

“Everything I’ve seen so far looks good. To be here, to get such a game, should be an incentive for him to keep working hard, to be humble, to take the things he gets with him down the road”, the coach said.

Born in Germany to parents for Nigerian descent he isn’t shy of his roots and he recently posed in the Super Eagles jersey, a sign of where his international allegiance is likely to be. He hasn’t been capped at any level by any of the country.

This season for the B team of RB Leipzig, he has been ever present with a goal to his name in the 8 games he has played so far. Spending time with the first time at their training camp is largely the reason why he hasn’t played in more games.

Out Of Favour Nottingham Forest Forward Emmanuel Dennis Gets Big Money Offer From Saudi Arabia

0

The uncertain future of Nigeria international Emmanuel Dennis at English Premier League side Nottingham Forest will be a thing of the past if he accepts an offer to move to Saudi Arabia.

Deemed surpluse to requirements by Steve Copper, the summer signing has been told he is free to leave the team in the January transfer window but it can only be to a club abroad, because he has already played for another English team in Watford.

A loan return to Watford is an option and also other interest around Europe but for now the most realistic offer that is close to his salary demand is from an unnamed team in Saudi Arabia. The money on offer is said to be three times what he currently earns at Watford.

Dennis is however keen to remain in Europe particularly England and for that reason he isn’t considering the offer but he risk getting froze out at Nottingham if he fails to secure a move before the end of the January transfer window.

So far he has only started two games and scored just once in the English Premier League, a far cry from the whirlwind start he had in his first stint in the English Premier League with newly promoted Watford. His ten goals was however not sufficient enough to keep them in the English top flight.

AC Milan Close In On Deal To Sign 2019 Nigeria U20 Trainee On A Free Transfer

The chances of English League One side Sheffield Wednesday keeping 21 year old Fisayo Dele Bashiru at the club beyond this summer has received a huge knock following interest from Italian Serie A champions AC Milan.

Fisayo has refused to extend his contract which is due to expire at the club next summer and with six months left in his deal, he is free to speak with other clubs based abroad. A blow to Sheffield who had an offer of £1m from Blackpool but rejected it with the hope that he will extend his deal.

The former Manchester City youth prospect has been ever present for the second placed League One side making 26 appearances in total this season, scoring five times. He even started in Wednesday FA Cup win over high flying Newcastle United.

His contract situation has made it easy for him to be the target of some top teams around Europe. According to Sky Sports, AC Milan are now taking an interest alongside Turkish duo Besiktas, Antalyaspor and Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

However recent reports indicate that he is keen on a move to AC Milan and talks with the club and his representatives is going well. A raw central midfielder with bags of potential – and known for his powerful breaks from the middle of the park, and he suits the profile of the kind of midfielder the Italians want in their team.

He trained with the 2019 U20 team ahead of the World Cup in Poland but didn’t make the final squad for the tournament. He is a graduate of the Manchester City youth system just like his brother Tom Dele-Bashiru, who is also doing well at Watford.

Victor Osimhen Is On Course To Become The Best Striker In The World

0

Osimhen happens to be one of the best in the business when it comes to finishing off chances, poaching goals in the box, and creating something out of nothing in the penalty area. But he’s far more than just a target man. In fact, the Napoli striker is one of the most complete center forwards on the planet.

VICTOR OSIMHENS STYLE OF PLAY

Often likened to a machine, Osimhen has the pace and power to match any defender imaginable. Excellent on the break and extraordinarily deadly when given space to run beyond an opposition’s defense, Osimhen also thrives with his back to goal. This is an area of his game that people often assume and not give him top credit.

Victor Osimhen’s exceptional back-to-goal ability and raw physicality to hold up play and bulldozing defenders off is a rare attribute in the modern game. Significantly, he will fit in any team tactical set up in the world.

The other obvious facet of Osimhen’s game that makes him so remarkable is his uncanny ability to score goals for fun. This has made him an immediate favorite for Sports Betting in Nigeria and enthusiasts all over the world as they are certain that with Osimhen on the field, goals must occur.

Osimhen scores all kinds of goals – from headers to left foot, right-foot, penalty-kick, and even the odd bicycle kick. 10 goals in 13 appearances this season puts him right up there with the best in the world, at 1.40 goals per 90 minutes. Basically, every 90 minute match that Osimhen plays, you can expect him to score a goal.

That’s a phenomenal ratio, and something only the likes of Lewandowski, Mbappe, Ronaldo, Messi and Benzema have been able to equal within the past decade. But impressively, once again, Osimhen is a genuine chance creator, his assists also sit impressively at 0.4 per 90.

Victor Osimhen is a unique talent in many ways. As a youth international, he dazzled his games with goals coupled with a high work rate .Osimhen will continue to break records as his career develops — it is almost shocking that he is still only 24 years.

His ability as a finisher is undeniable. Osimhen is regularly seen striking the ball ferociously past a helpless keeper with his cannon of both feet-but to his credit, Victor Osimhen is a very well-rounded. He is confident taking on shots with both feet’s and given his 6’3” (1.85m) height, he is also excellent in the air. This height, along with his finishing prowess and pace, makes him arguably one of, if not the most well-rounded striker operating in world football today.

As a finisher, Osimhen operates almost strictly in the box.

INTELLIGENT PLAY ALL ROUND

The first tenant of his movement that we often see is Osimhen continuously using the blind side of the opposition center-back to find space. He will often linger on the outside shoulder of the center-back marking him but will vary this and drift in front of the center-back too, constantly forcing them to have to check their position with the timing of his runs, Osimhen is never in any rush to do anything.

He is perfectly happy to wait until the last moment, his tendency to manipulate the positioning of the opponent marking him, and in doing so, creating space for himself to receive the ball through a double movement.

Even against defensive lines that aren’t as high but still leave some space behind, Osimhen can time his runs well to access these areas. He may initially face the ball with his back to goal, giving the appearance he wants to receive the ball in this position or combine with the ball-carrier with some link-up play in a 2v 1 intelligent build up.

It is these sequences of movement that contribute along with his other assets, such as his size, athleticism, and finishing ability, to make Osimhen such a unique center-forward.

His movement benefits from his change of pace and agility but, realistically, it is perhaps his timing of these runs that is so difficult for defenders to deal with. Osimhen preys on defenders, catching them in situations where they can’t look at the forward and the ball at the same time, as he lingers off of their shoulder.

However, his ability to create space in tight areas isn’t going to go away, and as a result, he could well be an elite forward for many years to come.

Former Super Eagles Captain Joins East Riffa Football Club Of Bahrain

0

Former captain of the senior national team of Nigeria Ogenyi Onazi has joined Bahrain outfit East Riffa Football Club, the club has announced.

Onazi spent the first half of the season at Italian Serie D side Casertana, where he made 11 appearances but will now leave the club on a free transfer for East Riffa Football Club just one year after his free transfer from Al Aldalah of Saudi Arabia.

It’s another step in his bid to relaunch his once fledgling career that saw him rise to the rank of deputy captain of the senior national team of Nigeria for three years. However since 2017 when he left Trabzonspor he hasn’t had the best of times at club level.

His next club after he left Trabzonspor was another Turkish side in Denizlispor  but he left six months into his stay at the club and joined Danish side SönderjyskE. One year later he moved to Lithuania where he defended the colours of FK Zalgiris Vilnius.

He returned to Denizlispor but had to leave after a few months following the mutual termination of his contract. A move to Saudi Arabia’s second division side Al Aldalah was next before he returned to Italy, where he started his professional journey with Serie A side Lazio but this time around he joined Casertana in Serie D.
