Sports betting origins:

Gambling as a whole has been a part of society and its various leisure’s for centuries, with the furthest cases of sports betting often being recorded as far back as over 2,000 years ago in Ancient Greece during the Olympics.

These such endeavours would soon migrate across to other historical eras including gladiatorial encounters during Ancient Roman rule and later Medieval periods with some religious leaders often transcribing laws that would ban such activities, forcing sports bets to remain a highly secretive topic amongst fellow punters.

As the world has continued to evolve throughout the Millennia, so has the attention drawn to sports betting and the various contests that fans can wager on as this was originally drawn to a much more miniscule selection of sports.

Nowadays, a number of countries have looked to either fully legalise or approve on certain sports betting related activities which has allowed the industry to expand into one of the world’s most profitable and highly popular ventures amongst fans of the contests they admire.

Some of the earlier sports that most punters would wager on include horse racing (namely chariot racing during the earlier periods of history), football, rugby, baseball and boxing which have all remained as crucial aspects of modern-day gambling.

These such sports have helped immensely in shaping the betting landscape into the hot commodity that it is today as more sporting organisations/events have opened up their interest in allowing fans to bet on their game given the success that has transpired with the various sports listed above.

The present and future of sports betting

Betting has evolved greatly throughout the past few decades which has mainly been intertwined with the technological era that humanity currently occupies, as many sportsbooks have moved to online webpages and smart phone applications in an effort to attract a much wider player base from other nations.

As well as sportsbooks now evolving into a major part of various tech endeavours, many laws have since been fluctuated in an effort to allow this industry to prosper at the levels that are present today.

This has also included the more frequent involvement and appearances that many renowned sportsbooks have across mediational devices/broadcasts as well as their overall endorsements with some of the sporting world’s most watched events.

Leagues such as the English Premier League often include betting advertisements on their many TV and radio broadcasts during commercial breaks as well as fighting promotions such as the UFC now often showcasing the various live odds during high profile bouts that can encourage audiences to get more involved in placing a wager during the active bout.

Overall, sports betting has become a mainstay in modern day sporting contests for various differentreasons which begs the question as to how it can continue to evolve into an even greater amenity during the upcoming few years.

This is still a vastly popular sector that has even more room to grow with one of the many likely concepts that could come to fruition for betting enthusiasts including Meta/VR technology, allowing players to be transported to a much more immersive betting experience that is likely to draw in even more players from the digital commerce.

VR is becoming such a well discussed and vibrant aesthetic to add for various sectors such as education, media and leisure which could open up the possibilities for an increased involvement in various sports betting wagers in the next few years.

There are a range of concepts and possibilities available to further enhance a punters’ betting endeavour, yet it cannot be understated on how much the industry has evolved over the years into a dependable leisure for all appropriately aged sports fans across the world.

U20 AFCON – Nigeria U20 Coach Warns Invited Foreign Based Players, Explains Invitation Of Players Born Abroad

0

Invited foreign based players have been given a stern warning by the coach of the Nigeria U20 team Ladan Bosso as the team step up their preparation for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Bosso Invited as many as ten players plying their trade abroad and they are expected to team up with the players based in Nigeria who started training at the camp of the team two days ago. It’s the final phase of preparation before the U20 AFCON in Egypt next month.

The coach made it clear that all invited foreign based players must be in the camp in Abuja to show their worth as he won’t entertain having them join the team during their planned playing tour or upon arrival in Egypt for the tournament.

*As you can see, two foreign based players are already here, no foreign based will meet me in my training tour camp or the tournament venue, it’s not possible, they have to come here, they have to showcase what they have, they have to fight with the local boys, if they’re better off why not, but if they cannot beat those ones here, it means they have no space”, he said after the team’s first training session.

Pressed on the issue of players born abroad, the coach said he is open to having them in his team if they show they are better than the ones he has at the moment. He said it’s better to have them integrated into the system at a young age than wait for them to blossom before trying to convince them to switch allegiance to Nigeria.

“We are all Nigerians and it’s not about talent, you are playing in Nigeria from the academy, now you have gone to play professional football in Europe, at least let’s give them hope that they’re Nigerians”

“Let them come and play for their country, if we say because they’re foreign based we don’t want to use them at this level, it means we are not doing good for them and for ourselves because tomorrow they can be better off and they can pledge their allegiance to other countries what will happen”?

“So they must be better than what we have at home before they can be part of this team”.

Head coach of the Nigeria U20 team Ladan Bosso has handed a call up to Istanbulspor defender Inainfe Michael Ologo to join the camp of the team ahead of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bosso who is keen on strengthening his defence has gotten assurance from the camp of the player that he will be available for the tournament which will run from February to March in Egypt.

Ologo is the second central defender based abroad who has been added to the squad with the team set to be without the first choice centre defence duo of Bolu Sholumade and Razak Adegbite. The pair were instrumental in the run to lifting the WAFU B championship in Niger Republic.

The other defender is Trelleborgs of Sweden record signing Abel Ogwuche. One among the duo is expected to pair with Nasarawa United defender Benjamin Fredrick who was the standout defender in the team in their first phase of camping.

One week ago, 19 year old Ologo produced a performance well above his age despite his team losing 1-2 to league giants Galatasaray. He was on for the entire duration of the game which was decided by a brace from Bafetembi Gomes. The lessons from that game will come handy for the Nigeria U20 team at the AFCON.

Forgotten Super Eagles Forward Hits Brace, Takes Goal Tally To 1O In France

With the senior national team of Nigeria set to resume competitive football in March, one player who is pushing to be in the frame for a call up is Bordeaux forward Josh Maja, who is currently on a good run in front of goal.

Since making his debut for Nigeria in the 2-2 draw against Ukraine in a friendly game, Maja hasn’t gotten a look in largely due to his inconsistent club form but he appears to have found his feet lately in Ligue 2.

Maja took his goal count for the season to ten with a brace in the 2-2 draw against Caen that keeps the hope of his team returning to the French Ligue 1 alive as they are second behind Le Harve in the Ligue 2 standing.

The 24 year old struck in the 4th and 25th minute to hand his team a two goal lead but their failed to hang on to all three points by conceding twice in the second half. Both teams ended the game with ten men owing to red cards.

His run in front of goal will no doubt put him in the frame for a look in when the team converge in March, particularly if he continue scoring for at least the period before the naming of the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The chances of Moses Simon leaving Ligue 1 side Nantes in the January transfer window has been reduced to zero, OwngoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Simon was widely tipped to leave in January after rejecting the option of extending his stay at the French side. He will be left with a year to run on his deal at the end of the season making the option of selling him in January more appealing.

However Nantes have made it clear that he won’t be sold in January unless a mammoth offer worth over £20m is lodged. They are open to doing business for him for half the amount in the summer per what we exclusively gathered.

English Premier league side Newcastle United were the team who explored the chances of signing him to add depth to their squad but their inquiry was knocked back with a firm not for sale response. 27 year old Simon is also courting interest from fellow Ligue 1 side in Rennes, Nice failed with a €5m bid for his service in the summer.

Presently the vice captain of the senior national team of Nigeria, he is enjoying one of his most prolific season at the club with five goals and two assists in the league after 15 games. He is one goal away from his tally of six goals in 30 games last season.

Fast Rising RB Leipzig Defender Kelechi Hints At Super Eagles Chance, Poses In Super Eagles Shirt

RB Leipzig is known as one of the best teams in the German Bundesliga in recent years. They are also widely regarded for their ability to spot and groom some of the best young players in the world.

One name that has been mentioned among some of the best talents in the squad at the moment is 17 year old defender Kelechi Daniel Ihendu. He used the test games during the World Cup break to play his way into the first team plans of the club.

He has made the bench in all of their games ahead of the return of the Bundesliga. A remarkable feat for a 17 year old considering the arrays of talents available to the team due to their rich scouting network. His rise has already earned him praises from the first team coach Marco Rose.

“Everything I’ve seen so far looks good. To be here, to get such a game, should be an incentive for him to keep working hard, to be humble, to take the things he gets with him down the road”, the coach said.

Born in Germany to parents for Nigerian descent he isn’t shy of his roots and he recently posed in the Super Eagles jersey, a sign of where his international allegiance is likely to be. He hasn’t been capped at any level by any of the country.

This season for the B team of RB Leipzig, he has been ever present with a goal to his name in the 8 games he has played so far. Spending time with the first time at their training camp is largely the reason why he hasn’t played in more games.

Out Of Favour Nottingham Forest Forward Emmanuel Dennis Gets Big Money Offer From Saudi Arabia

0

The uncertain future of Nigeria international Emmanuel Dennis at English Premier League side Nottingham Forest will be a thing of the past if he accepts an offer to move to Saudi Arabia.

Deemed surpluse to requirements by Steve Copper, the summer signing has been told he is free to leave the team in the January transfer window but it can only be to a club abroad, because he has already played for another English team in Watford.

A loan return to Watford is an option and also other interest around Europe but for now the most realistic offer that is close to his salary demand is from an unnamed team in Saudi Arabia. The money on offer is said to be three times what he currently earns at Watford.

Dennis is however keen to remain in Europe particularly England and for that reason he isn’t considering the offer but he risk getting froze out at Nottingham if he fails to secure a move before the end of the January transfer window.

So far he has only started two games and scored just once in the English Premier League, a far cry from the whirlwind start he had in his first stint in the English Premier League with newly promoted Watford. His ten goals was however not sufficient enough to keep them in the English top flight.

AC Milan Close In On Deal To Sign 2019 Nigeria U20 Trainee On A Free Transfer

0
The chances of English League One side Sheffield Wednesday keeping 21 year old Fisayo Dele Bashiru at the club beyond this summer has received a huge knock following interest from Italian Serie A champions AC Milan.

Fisayo has refused to extend his contract which is due to expire at the club next summer and with six months left in his deal, he is free to speak with other clubs based abroad. A blow to Sheffield who had an offer of £1m from Blackpool but rejected it with the hope that he will extend his deal.

The former Manchester City youth prospect has been ever present for the second placed League One side making 26 appearances in total this season, scoring five times. He even started in Wednesday FA Cup win over high flying Newcastle United.

His contract situation has made it easy for him to be the target of some top teams around Europe. According to Sky Sports, AC Milan are now taking an interest alongside Turkish duo Besiktas, Antalyaspor and Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

However recent reports indicate that he is keen on a move to AC Milan and talks with the club and his representatives is going well. A raw central midfielder with bags of potential – and known for his powerful breaks from the middle of the park, and he suits the profile of the kind of midfielder the Italians want in their team.

He trained with the 2019 U20 team ahead of the World Cup in Poland but didn’t make the final squad for the tournament. He is a graduate of the Manchester City youth system just like his brother Tom Dele-Bashiru, who is also doing well at Watford.
