CAN AN AFRICAN TEAM WIN THE WORLD CUP?

0

One of the most repeated quotes in football is Pele’s claim that an African team will win the World Cup by the end of the millennium.

The turn of the millennium has come and gone, and the wait is still on for a team from the continent to lay their hands on football’s ultimate prize.

AFRICA AND THE WORLD CUP

Africa was part of the early history of the World Cup with Egypt featuring in the second ever tournament in 1934. However, they had to wait until Argentina in 1978 for their first win as Tunisia came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory over Mexico in a group stage fixture.

There was another lengthy wait for a significant stride in the World Cup as Cameroon impressed at Italia 90.

Driven by Roger Milla, the Indomitable Lions beat the likes of Romania and Colombia on their way to the quarter-final where they lost to England.

That performance from Cameroon appeared to open the floodgates for African teams at the global showpiece. The Super Eagles of Nigeria entertained on their way to round of 16 finishes at USA 94 and France 98

There appears to be a quarter-final block with African teams as no side has ever reached the semi-final of the World Cup. Following Cameroon were Senegal and Ghana who both reached the last eight in Korea/Japan 2002 and South Africa 2010.

The 2010 World Cup was the first and only time Africa hosted the World Cup, and it was also the closest a team from the continent has come to progressing beyond the quarterfinals. The Black Stars of Ghana were only inches away from beating Uruguay and reaching the last four but were foiled by that infamous handball from Luis Suarez and then the woodwork.

Africa endured their worst ever World Cup campaign at the 2018 tournament in Russia. None of the representatives progressed from the group stage while teams like Morocco and Egypt failed to win a single game.

RENEWED OPTIMISM

Despite the disappointment in 2018, there is still plenty of optimism that Africa is inching closer to her first ever World Cup triumph. Football on the continent has grown in leaps and bounds in recent years as there are more players playing top flight football in elite leagues across the world than ever before.

More African stars are also getting into the final shortlists for major international awards. Players like Sadio Mane have played pivotal roles in the recent success of their club sides, and will be looking to carry that experience into the national team.

As we head into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, one question is being asked: is it finally Africa’s time? Will a team from the continent finally fulfill Pele’s prophecy?

AFRICA AT THE QATAR 2022 WORLD CUP

Of all of Africa’s representatives at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Senegal are the least experienced and will be making only their third appearance at the tournament. However, they have impressed in their two previous appearances, reaching the quarterfinals in 2002 and only missing the knockout stage in 2018 due to the fair play rule.

The Teranga Lions appear to be Africa’s brightest prospect heading into Qatar.

If you are a betting man, you will have noticed that most of the top football betting apps have picked them as the clear favorites to win if the trophy indeed comes to Africa.

They are the current AFCON holders, the number one ranked team on the continent and boast some of the best players in the world like Mane, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Other African countries have their strong points like Cameroon with the experience of seven previous World Cups behind them while Ghana have come closest to reaching the last four.

North Africans, Morocco and Tunisia are always entertaining and can claim a few scalps in Qatar.

Another reason for optimism is that a lot of the big teams are struggling to find their rhythm at the moment. Defending champions France appear to be going through an internal crisis in the build up to the World Cup while the likes of Spain, Portugal, England and Germany have all flattered to deceive lately.

Yes, traditional powerhouses Brazil and Argentina are still in the picture and are playing well at the moment. However, with most of the other big guns struggling as the Mundial draws close, Africa could be poised to capitalize in Qatar.

THE BOTTOMLINE

Football continues to develop in Africa, although there are still a few hampering factors like a lack of infrastructure. What is not in question is that the continent has come a long way in her standing in the world of football.

Whether it comes in Qatar or the North American tournament in 2026, one thing is certain, Africa could be on the cusp of great things in football’s global showpiece.

(I)  Make More Money From Sports Betting

There is no doubt that sports betting is becoming increasingly popular and can be done from almost any location worldwide. The term “sports betting” refers to the practice of placing a wager on the outcome of a sporting event based on one’s prediction of the result. Worldwide, the great majority of bets are put on football, basketball, baseball, track cycling, boxing and many more.

With 64 upcoming games to determine the winner of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, this is a perfect avenue for bettors to make more money from sports betting. However, it should be noted that betting is not a one-way street. (II)  Tour The Beauty And History Of Qatar

Qatar is a beautiful place. The Arabian country is one of the most beautiful countries in the world thanks to its varied landscapes, which include a desert and a lengthy coastline along the Persian Gulf with beautiful beaches and dunes. Even apart from the lure of the glamorous World Cup, you should visit the country to take in the architecture, skyline, and skyscrapers if you have the time and resources. You can visit historic places like the Doha Fort, the National Museum and others which will be discussed below;

Doha Fort

The Doha Fort is a historic military castle in the middle of the city which was constructed in 1927 by Sheikh Abdulla bin Qassim Al Thani, who controlled Qatar from 1913 to 1949. Originally a fort, Koot Fort is now a museum. You can find various locally made goods, such as gypsum, wooden ornaments, fishing equipment, boats, oil paintings and historical photographs.

National Museum

The National Museum of Qatar was designed by architect Jean Nouvel, who took his cues from the desert rose crystal. It opened to the public on March 28 2019. The museum’s intricate patterns have been likened to delicate works of origami. The magnificent white building has stunningly sharp and curved corners. The museum’s design is so detailed and stunning that it defies belief.

The Corniche

Whether you are a local or a visitor arriving to support your country at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, you can peak your relaxation and fun with a visit to the Corniche, a 7-kilometre promenade that stretches along the bay. The Al Dafna Park and the Museum of National Art, two renowned architectural landmarks, may be seen from this one vantage point. You can either stroll the promenade or relax on a terrace with a drink.

Visitors to the region can choose from a wide variety of activities along the promenade. You can discover places to dine, such as restaurants, and places to relax, such as parks. You may also check out the Pearl Monument, the National Museum of Qatar, and the Museum of Islamic Art while you’re there.

The Pearl Qatar

An artificial island, The Pearl Qatar, may be found in close proximity to Doha’s West Bay neighbourhood. The region provides a high-end shopping experience with premium designer stores and showrooms, Mediterranean-style yacht-lined marinas, residential towers, villas, and hotels. The manufactured island is only one of the unique areas in this stunningly gorgeous and refined nation.

The Island is known for its pedestrian-friendly squares and plazas and its wide variety of planted gardens. Still, it also features several cutting-edge dining establishments serving everything from refreshing ice cream to five-star gourmet experiences. The intriguing island is situated on four million square meters of reclaimed ground. In addition to being a desirable place to live because of the hotels, lovely cafes and restaurants, famous marina, and high-end boutiques, the neighbourhood is also notable for its abundant communal living.

(III)  Put In Some Casino Games

Non-athletic activities, such as casino games, reality show competitions and political elections, and non-human contests, such as horse racing, greyhound racing, and cockfighting, are also fair game for sports betting. The Grammys and the Oscars are just a few entertainment awards ceremonies where bets may be placed on sports betting platforms.

More than 18,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots have been set up in Qatar to accommodate football fans’ online activity. Visitors to the country who are interested in casino games can make use of the accessible Wi-Fi networks. This will open the door for casino players to participate in their preferred games like Poker, Baccarat, Craps, Blackjack, Slots, Live-dealer Poker, Live-dealer Blackjack and so on, without the worry of finding a WiFi hotspot.

Many sports betting sites offer casino games to players; however, 1xBet is one of the few with a large variety of games available on their website. To learn everything about this website and the games they offer, you can visit 1xBet, and you will come out equipped with more information than you can get anywhere else. You can also visit to get betting tips on maximising your chances of winning.

(IV)   Aerial Tours

Aerial tours of Doha are highly recommended as they provide guests with a bird’s-eye view of the city. The tour offers an aerial view of some of the city’s and the desert’s most famous landmarks. For you as a visitor during the FIFA World Cup, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see favourite spots from a new perspective.

The Doha Airport location is home to the Gulf Helicopter facility. Sharq Village is located opposite the main gate to Doha International Airport. Flying time is around 30–35 minutes, and each flight may accommodate a maximum of 4 passengers. There’s a set path that’s been plotted out ahead of time. The flight begins at Doha Airport and passes over Katara, The Pearl, Zig Zag Towers, AlkotafiaLake at Qatar University, and the Doha Corniche.

Passengers with a QID or passport must check in at the airport at least 1 hour before departure. Costs associated with this activity are non-refundable. At least two days before takeoff, you must deposit into the GHC bank account and provide the original deposit slip to GHC. Morning takeoffs are usually scheduled anytime between 8 am and 10.30 am, while afternoon takeoffs are typically planned at approximately 1:30 pm.

It’s Nothing Special – Man Utd Legend Scholes Plays Down Uzoho’s Performance, Ten Hag Disagrees

0

Legendary Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes says the man of the match performance by Francis Uzoho for Omonia Nicosia in Manchester United 1-0 win isn’t anything special.

Uzoho was handed the chance to be in goal for Omonia Nicosia and he frustrated Manchester United before he was finally beaten by a 93rd minute goal from Scott McTominay, which handed Manchester United a 1-0 win.

All in all he made 12 saves which earned him the man of the match award. His most memorable saves during the game was a finger tip save to deny Casemiro and a double save, first from Rashford then Cristiano Ronaldo from the follow up.

Despite the 23 year old receiving all round praises, Scholes said he didn’t do anything special as the saves where balls which any goalkeeper should make. “He saved every ball a goalkeeper should be saving”, he said during his post match analysis of the game on television.

His position is different from that of the coach of Manchester United Erik Ten Haag who said his team scored late because of the heroics of the Nigerian who was in goal for the visitors.

Uzoho Has Announced Himself To The World With His Performance Against Man Utd – Hargreaves

0

Former Manchester United star Owen Hargreaves says Nigeria international goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has announced himself to the world with his heroics against Manchester United.

Since joining the Cyprus side two summers ago he has played the role of second choice goalkeeper but according to Hargreaves all of this could change after his performance tonight. He said he expects Uzoho’s agent to be busy owing to his performance.

“I think his agent will be on the phone. He’s still only young at 23. I think everybody now is going to know his name”, he said while giving his post match analysis as a television pundit for the game.

Europa League: Fantastic Uzoho Fails To Deny Man Utd Victory Despite 12 Saves

0

The first choice goalkeeper of the senior national team of Nigeria had a memorable game against Manchester United despite his team succumbing to a late strike to lose 0-1.

Handed a rare start by coach Neil Lennon, Uzoho who is a Manchester United fan frustrated the trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Anthony with saves which were well timed and executed. He was largely the reason why both teams head into the break tied at 0-0.

Uzoho picked up from where he left off in the second half with six more saves including a finger tip save off an effort from Casemiro, which many thought has beaten him. Not done yet he made a double save by first denying Rashford before stopping Ronaldo’s follow up effort.

He was finally beaten in the third minute of time added on by Scott McTominay but that didn’t stop Uzoho from picking up the man of the match award for his heroics, putting himself in the frame for more games at the club where he has been second choice since his move on deadline day two summers ago.

The wins means Manchester United have sealed their passage to the knockout round of the game. Real Sociedad are also through to the knock out round after a 3-0 win over Sheriff of Moldova in the other group game. They have 12 points from winning all of their games played so far.

The Nigerian team who resumed training two days ago have just eight days before the first leg of the qualifiers in Tanzania and they had a dismal start to their build up by losing 3-0, although they have only trained for two days.

They were no match for the Ibadan based academy who showed enough to condemn the boys of coach Salisu Yusuf to defeat. All but four of the players invited by the coach have arrived at the camp of the team in Ibadan.

Age discrepancies has led to the axing of about twelve players called up in the initial list of players published below.

Opinion – Super Eagles Coach Should Do All He Can For Rennes Midfielder To Dump France For Nigeria

0

To think that his first start came 18 months ago in a high profile game against runaway Ligue 1 leaders PSG, one month after he turned 17 year old says a lot about how talented Lesley Ugochukwu is as he has racked up 32 appearances in the league since then.

Discussions about his international future came up again when his father posted a picture with one of the vice captains of the Nigerian team Moses Simon after the 3-0 win Rennes had over Nantes. It was the fifth game for Ugochukwu this season.

The 18 year old had his season interrupted by a red card he picked up in match day three against Ajaccio hence was suspended for the next game, he was subsequently named on the bench for the next two consecutive games.

One thing that is certain is that he is sure to have a guarantee future if he continues to progress this way not just at club level but also at international level, where he is eligible for both Nigeria and France. For now he has only represented France at U19 level.

Before his debut for France, the nephew of former Super Eagles defender Onyekachi Apam was courted by ex coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Genort Rohr. Talks didn’t progress as expected with the German coach not so keen on the then 17 year old.

From then to now he has truly grown in leaps and bounds thanks to a fair amount of senior games. Taking his ability to the senior international stage might be a bit for sudden but that’s probably for France but not Nigeria who as it stands can’t boast of having a midfielder of his type.

Already 1.88 metres-tall with still some growing to do, Ugochukwu uses his timing and balance as much as his physical stature to dispossess opposition attackers, normally from the base of his side’s midfield.

Still capable of playing centre-back but with an eye for goal going forward, Ugochukwu has been compared to FC Nantes, Olympique de Marseille, AC Milan, Chelsea and France legend Marcel Desailly by his academy coaches.

With such a profile which Nigeria can only say Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi can be said to be close to then it’s fair to say Jose Peseiro should do whatever it takes to get Ugochukwu, who has strong Nigerian links to pledge his future to the senior national team of Nigeria.

3 Tips for Downloading MSport Betting App

0

Nigerian punters can’t hide their admiration for one of the most popular bookmakers in the region—MSport. The company has been around for a while now, and has formed a strong player base of loyal and satisfied Nigerian punters. You can’t really achieve such a spot in the industry without a decent background and without services that are modern and technologically advanced.

That’s the case with MSport. With excellent website design, an optimized betting process, and top-notch mobile applications, the bookie has everything it takes to blow your mind. In this article, we’re going to examine how to download an MSport application for betting and provide three tips for doing so. Let’s get started!

Tip #1: Only Reliable Sources

The gambling industry and bettors in particular have always been a great target for scammers. Punters have money and want to bet. But before they get their hands on betting directly, they have to download an application, which can be quite critical if done without caution.

We can’t really count how many websites are offering informational services about betting in general, but almost each of them posts a referral link to the bookmaker in order to use the monetization from redirected traffic. That’s a great field for any kind of fraud activity. Thus, you get to be fairly prudent.

If you are not on the official MSport website, which is quite weird, pay attention to the content and external links especially. Those links can get you to a fraudulent website that is expertly disguised as an official bookmaker’s site. From this point on, the number of possible negative events increases many times over. For instance, you can download a “proprietary” application that will simply copy all of your data from your phone and place it in the hands of fraudsters on a platter.

An alternative scenario could be that you want to register immediately and give untrustworthy people access to all your data. For many obvious reasons, any of these events should appear quite unappealing to you. So, how do you avoid it?

Well, first and foremost, always check the links before clicking. This will save a lot of your nerves and ensure a small part of your online security. Secondly, when you visit a page for the first time, make sure that the link is written properly and the connection is secure.

Many modern browsers will display a warning right in the address bar if the connection is insecure or if there are any threats. Pay attention to this.

Tip #2: Select the Most Convenient Way

As an international bookmaking company with respect to its customers, MSport has established many alternative ways for you to get the mobile application. We’re going to break them down right here.

Downloading from the MSport Website

This is the most common and secure option to download the app, since the risk of doing something wrong tends to be zero. Here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Navigate to msport.com/ng.
  2. Hit the “App” button on the upper right side of the page.
  3. Click on either “Download for Android” or “Download on the App Store.”
    1. Android devices will instantly proceed to the APK file downloading.
    2. Apple gadgets will be redirected to the MSport page within the App Store.
  4. Run the installation and finish it.
    1. If you have an Android, make sure your gadget permits the installation of apps from unknown sources.
  5. Done! The MSport icon will appear on the phone’s home page.

The process is pretty straightforward and quick. It may take up to 2-3 minutes of your time, but in return, you receive an opportunity to follow your bet anywhere and anytime with one of the best bookmakers in Nigeria.

If you think that’s the end of the downloading options, you’re wrong. In case you’d like to use another way, unlike we mentioned above, you can apply the following methods:

  • Android: input the direct link to your mobile browser to download the MSport App.
  • Android: scan the QR code with the camera to directly download the MSport App.
  • iOS: scan the QR code with the camera to be redirected to the App Store.

The link and QR codes can be found at the bottom of the MSport App’s tab. Please do not follow any links or scan QR codes on third-party websites and forums. Only official MSport page: msport.com/ng.

Downloading from the Store

MSport is among those sportsbooks that provide the possibility to download the official application right on your phone with the help of either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. This option is way too simple because you don’t have to bother yourself with checking links and websites. Each application uploaded to the store passed the security test, and it’s quite unlikely that you’ll be scammed there. Here’s the overall process:

  1. Open the appropriate store for your device.
  2. Enter “MSport – Sports Betting” in the typebox.
  3. Ensure you’re picking the right app by checking that the developer is “Mobile Sport Group.”
  4. Initiate the download.
  5. Finish the installation.
  6. Done!

Depending on the region and country, there may be a malfunction when searching for the app. For this event, a much easier option would be to go on the MSport website and download from there. If you still would like to obtain the app via the store, it’s suggested to check the default region of the store. Usually, the problem is hidden there.

Tip #3: Stable Internet Connection

This tip is quite an obvious one, but a stable connection is something that should also be respected. No matter how heavy an application you’re about to download, an unstable Internet connection can cause files to download crisply, which will result in errors during installation.

The greatest advice we can give here is to download the app when you are connected to Wi-Fi. This reduces the risk of corruption of the files and generally lowers the use of paid Internet traffic.

If you don’t have the ability to connect to the WiFi, or if your current online connection is either weak or unstable, we’d highly recommend you postpone the download until the stated conditions cannot be met. It’s much better to do everything at once instead of picking up the app megabyte by megabyte.

Summary

MSport is considered a market leader for a reason. For reasons, to be concrete. It deeply cares for the customers and provides many different options on how to contact them. The platform and the website in particular have great structure and functionality without unwanted flashy buttons and banners, which will distract you from the intriguing betting experience.

Applications are absolutely well-designed, each action can be done with the tap of a finger. And moreover, it doesn’t get laggy or completely bugged after a continuous period of use, which can be quite beneficial if you prefer live betting over its pre-match brother.

Following our tips will guarantee that the download will go quickly and smoothly, and even more importantly, you won’t have any trouble with security or installation. Hopefully, the article covers each of your interests on this subject, and if some questions remain unanswered, go to the MSport official website and check the FAQ section there for more information. Good luck with betting on MSport!

He Might Outscore Messi, Neymar, Mbappe – Journalist Makes Bold Prediction About Super Eagles Forward

0

Not so many players will be tipped to score more goals in Ligue 1 than PSG trio of Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at the end of the season as the battle for top scorer award is usually among the trio.

This season they are however facing a different threat from an unusual suspect in Nigeria international forward Terem Moffi who has eight goals, the same number of goals as the duo of Mbappe and Neymar while Messi is on five goals.

His form has seen him score a brace three times including the one for last week against Brest which maintained Lorient’s run of six consecutive wins to push them to second on the log, one point behind PSG.

Moffi has already matched his last season tally of 8 goals in 37 games after just ten games in the league this season. He has been tipped to go past the PSG trio and win the top scorer award at the end of the season.

” PSG create lot of chances but Moffi’s conversation rate is better from few chances. That’s what will be the difference at the end of the season if he keeps this scoring run going. Messi, Neymar and Mbappe will share the goals but he has all the goals for Lorient”, French journalist Mark William told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

You Can’t Be Super Eagles First Choice While On The Bench In Cyprus – Ex Super Eagles Star Warns Uzoho

0

Francis Uzoho has been told to leave Omonia Nicosia of Cyprus if he wants to remain as the first choice goalkeeper of the senior national team of Nigeria under new coach Jose Peseiro.

Uzoho hasn’t found game time easy to come by at his club since his move to the Europa League side two summers ago on transfer deadline day after terminating his deal with their rivals Apoel Nicosia. He has been advised to leave the club in search of regular games.

This piece of advice was handed to the goal tender by former Nigeria U23 and Super Eagles goalkeeper Emmanuel Babayaro while discussing if Uzoho should remain as first choice of a team as competitive as that of Nigeria, especially with a new coach at the helm.

” He can’t be first choice sitting on the bench in Cyprus with all due respect, it’s not among the top leagues for you to be on the bench and keep your spot in a team like Super Eagles. My advice to him is to seek for regular playing time, there is a new coach and playing time is crucial”, Babayaro told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

” That he isn’t getting games is why he has lost his sharpness in front of goal. Look at the manners of goals he has conceded lately and you’ll know he is lacking confidence due to lack of games. Regular games will no doubt help his development”, he concluded.
