The departure of goalkepper Kasper Schmeichel from Leicester City to French Ligue 1 side Nice has forced coach of the  the club Brendan Rodgers into reshuffling the leadership group at the club.

Schmeichel’s role as captain was handed to Johnny Evans with long serving winger Marc Albrighton named as his vice captain. One of the longest serving players at the club as he has been there since joining in 2014 on a free transfer from Aston Villa.

They were a number of candidates for the role, with Jamie Vardy, Youri Tielemans, and Ricardo Pereira all having captained the side before, and with James Maddison and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall recently praised for their leadership abilities.

Prior to the decision to name him as vice captain, they were talks about the fact that he is no longer a regular hence Nigeria international Wilfred Nididi who has been a regular since 2016 should be considered. Rodgers however defended his decision.

“The squad have got two fantastic professionals that set a standard every day in Jonny and Marc. Their experiences and the level of how they commit themselves every day to their work, they’ll provide a great inspiration and a real source of comfort for the other players, who know they are there to look after them and support them.”

“Marc, whenever he’s asked to contribute and play, he always gives absolutely everything to the cause. He still fights and shows every day in training that he wants to play. I can’t speak highly enough of him.

“He’s a great guy who’s got the total respect of his team-mates and the total respect of all the coaches. Whether he starts or whether he’s on the bench, his contributions are always invaluable here.”

He Is More Than Our Budget – Villarreal CEO Denies Interest In Signing Super Eagles Star

0

Spanish La Liga side Villarreal have confirmed the signing of Argentina international Giovani Lo Celso, who was deemed as surplus to requirements by English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Lo Celso spent last season on loan at the Spanish side and played a huge role in their progress to the semi final of the UEFA Champions League. His return to the club on another season loan deal was made public yesterday.

During the course of his presentation, Villarreal chief executive officer Fernando Negueroles Roig was asked about the chances of the team signing Nigeria international striker Sadiq Umar who has been linked to the club.

Roig confirmed that they had him in their plans at the start of the summer transfer window but his valuation is way out of their budget. He said they are not in anyway close to signing him as widely reported by several media outlets.

“This is a topic that comes from Almeria and we don’t know anything about it here,” Roig said. “We talked about the market at the beginning, but it was an unfeasible operation, and we didn’t do anything else.”

“Right now it is as if they are talking to me about reaching Jupiter.”he concluded.

His statement means Getafe who were the other Spanish team reported to be interested in signing the forward now have a clear run, if their interest is true. Almeria are however not keen on letting him leave unless their valuation of €30m is met.

Danish Club Kicks As Ex Nigeria U17 Ace Is Denied Entry Into London Ahead Of Clash With West Ham

Ahead of West Ham United Europa Conference League game against Danish side Viborg, confusion has hit the camp of the visitors for the game in London.

Two of their key players were not granted an entry visa into the United Kingdom due to  post-Brexit visa rules for non-EU citizens. The club said it meant there was  insufficient time to secure a visa for the duo.

The players are Nigerian winger Ibrahim Said and Gambian forward Alassana Jatta, they won’t face West Ham on Thursday at the London Stadium due to entry rules for non-European Union citizens.

A statement by Viborg said: ‘We are extremely sorry that we have not been able to get visas for the two players.

20 year old Sa’id was a part of the 2019 Nigeria U17 team and he has so far been ever present for Viborg. His absence will no doubt hurt the team the most as he would surely have started.

‘We have tried everything, and have been in close contact with DBU [Danish Football Association], UEFA, the two embassies and another foreign club which has been in a similar situation, but unfortunately this has proved to be impossible, as there is a processing time of several weeks and the match was only finally decided a week ago.’

Viborg sporting director Esper Fredberg said: ‘It is very unfortunate purely sportingly, as both players would have had a role in the match, but even more unfortunate purely humanly, that the two miss out on the great experience.’

He Is A Bad Influence – Why Watford Teammates Celebrated Departure Of Emmanuel Dennis

0

News broke out this morning on various English media outlets that players of English Championship side Watford openly celebrated the exit of Emmanuel Dennis from the club.

Dennis joined Nottingham Forest for a deal that could rise to £20 million with several add ons and while Watford will feel his departure will affect their aim of gaining instant promotion back to the English Premier League, his teammates feel otherwise.

Many of his teammates don’t have a relationship with him and even on social media he follows just ten of them including his four teammates in the senior national team of Nigeria. Although he is close to Ismaila Saar, his closest ally is Brazilian João Pedro.

Most of his teammates resent his cocky attitude which they feel affects the atmosphere in the dressing room. He keeps to himself more and carries himself as someone who is bigger than the rest of his teammates.

Coaches of Watford have tried to manage his attitude which hasn’t been the case with the senior national team of Nigeria where erstwhile coach Gernot Rohr ignored him for over a year, despite his good goal return for Watford.

The reports teams got after a background check is why most shy away from him when Watford got relegated despite his ten goals last season. Even newly promoted Nottingham Forest agreed to sign him after he promised to be of good behaviour when he spoke with the coach of the team Steve Cooper.

Despite his fine perfomance coach of the team Luciano Spalleti kept on calling his name during the course of the game, something that has become a regular occurrence since the coach took over from former coach Gennaro Gattuso.

Asked if he isn’t distracted, Osimhen said he is comfortable with it insisting that he has a very good relationship with the coach. “I’m very happy with this. It’s normal for me to make mistakes, but Spalletti has faith in me and there’s a good relationship”, he explained to DAZN.

Speaking further he refused to set a goal target for the season despite the fact that he is due a special financial bonus if he scores at least 20 goals at the end of the season.

“I’m very happy, it was very important to start well. We have to feel the same as last year and start in the best way. I’m not the type of player who sets a goal target, I want to score to help the team, I put the collective in front.”
