Real Reason Why We Signed Kelechi Nwakali – Coach Of Ponferradina Explains

0

The reason behind the decision of Spanish second division side Ponferradina to sign Kelechi Nwakali has been revealed by coach of the team Jose Gomes.

Nwakali was signed on a free transfer following the termination of his contract by fellow Spanish second division side Huesca. His contract was terminated after a disagreement caused by his late arrival to Spain after representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Huesca insist his excuse of not returning early wasn’t due to the illnes that he claimed and went ahead to terminate his deal. He contested it at the Spanish FA and a ruling is yet to be delivered.

Ponferradina announced his signing on a two year deal and as expected questions were asked about the rationale behind handing the 24 year old a deal at the club going by his not too impressive performance at Huesca.

Gomes explained he has tracked the player for a while and he even scored against his team while he was at Almeria. He also spoke about his playing style as another quality which endeared him to the Nigeria international.

“I knew him, he scored a goal against me when I was at Almería. In the U17 World Cup he was the best player in the tournament, and it was no coincidence. He is very intelligent, he knows how to take up space, he filters very good passes, he dribbles well and pull out”, the coach explained in an interview sourced by OwnGoalNigeria.com editorial team.

Reigning Italian Serie A champions AC Milan have named 17 year old Nigerian midfielder Victor Eletu Ehuwa as the new captain of their U19 team ahead of the start of next season, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Eletu trained with the first team during their pre season camp and showed enough leadership qualities that made newly appointed coach of the U19 Ignacio Abate to name him as the new captain. He captained the team for the first time yesterday in a pre season game which they lost 0-3 to Inter Milan.

Abate, a former Italy international and also a legend at AC Milan made the step up from the U16 to the Primavera. His decision to make Eletu captain is seen by many part of the steps towards convincing the talented sensation to pledge his future to the club.

” There is an offer on the table for him to sign his first professional deal at the club. It includes improved salary, bonuses and now the captain armband. We are still talking about it”, he concluded.

Ajax Manager – Super Eagles Defender Calvin Bassey Is Not Eligible To Play For Ajax Yet

0

Following his record breaking move from Rangers of Scotland to Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, Calvin Bassey immediately joined his new teammates in training.

However the Nigeria international is yet to get a game in pre season despite the fact that he was primarily signed to fill the void created by the departure of a first team player in Lisandro Martinez.

Bassey was once again missing from the list of players called up for yesterday’s 3-1 win over Ukraine side Shakhtar Donetsk, and this time around technical manager of the team Gerry Hamstra was pushed to provide an explanation.

“Calvin Bassey is fit, but not yet eligible to play. That’s what Ajax technical manager Gerry Hamstra said just before the game with Shakhtar Donetsk.

“Bassey’s work permit has to be arranged and so the defender can’t play for Ajax yet.

Hamstra  also quelled fears in certain quarters who suggested that the club is probably not impressed by the Nigerian after seeing him closely during training the last few days.

“He didn’t play in the biggest competition, but he has been in the Europa League final. From his build-up via Leicester City to Rangers, he has made rapid development and we think he can develop even further. He is available immediately, but there are more. The selection is wide, so he will also have to fight, but this is someone who brings our specific qualities,” says Hamstra to Ziggo Sport.

Exclusive Picture – Super Eagles Striker Dessers Arrives Italy To Complete Move To Cremonese

0

Nigeria international forward Cyriel Dessers has touched down Italy where he is expected to seal a move to newly promoted Italian Serie A side Cremonese.

Dessers has decided to pitch his tent with the Serie A side in a deal which will see them pay around €4m for him. He is expected to sign a three year contract with the option of another year per what we exclusively gathered.

A picture of the 27 year old was sent to us by a contact who shares a close relationship with the agent of the Nigeria international forward. Dessers was the top scorer last season in the inaugural edition of the Europa Conference League last season.

He achieved the feat while on loan at Dutch side Feyenoord by scoring ten goals but the club opted against the option of signing him permanently. He returned to Genk where he scored in their first game of the season last weekend as they fall to a 2-3 loss to Club Brugge.

The goal will be his last in their colours as he is already in Italy for a routine medical before an official announcement. Below is the picture of Dessers in Italy as exclusively sent to us.

Serie A Side Cremonese Close to Reaching Agreement To Sign Two Super Eagles Forwards

0

Newly promoted Italian Serie A side Cremonese will likely beef up their attack with two players of the senior national team of Nigeria per several reports.

Newly promoted Cremonese are strengthening their squad ahead of the start of the season, where their aim is to at least maintain their status in the Italian top flight and bolstering their attack is a priority.

To that extent talks have been held with the senior national team of Nigeria duo of Cyriel Dessers and David Okereke players of Genk and Club Brugge of Belgium respectively.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Dessers and his agent were in Italy to hold talks with the Serie A over the move. He is keen on leaving the Belgium side after a successful loan spell with Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where he scored ten goals to finish as top scorer in the Europa Conference League.

Although there is a slim chance of the 27 year old staying at Gent. He made the most of his remaining time there with a goal in their first game of the season over the weekend in a 2-3 loss to Brugge. Okereke on the other hand was an unused substitute.

Last season he had a productive spell at relegated Italian Serie A side Venezia and it appears he did enough to convince Cremonese that he will be a positive addition to their attack line. He scored seven goals in 33 games last season.

Both players are said to be close to signing for the club. A good performance in the league will no doubt help their national team careers particularly Okereke who hasn’t been involved since 2019, when he was drafted from the U23 to the main team for a friendly game.
