0

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made officially made contact with a Portuguese coach who will likely head the team when the qualifiers for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations begins, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

NFF in a communique after a meeting of their executives said their technical department have been saddled with the responsibility of bringing forward names of coaches who will likely lead the team within a five days span.

We exclusively gathered that Antonio Conceicao da Silva Oliveira popularly known as Toni Conceicao is the leading candidate to be named as coach and contacts have been made already.

Talks is on with the lawyers of the coach who handled Cameroon at the last Africa Cup of Nations and led them to a bronze medal finish but was sacked after a disagreement with new FA President Samuel Eto’o.

The 60 year old faced Nigeria twice in a friendly game and didn’t lose any. He was said to have impressed the NFF hierarchy with the way his team was set up in both games and also during the AFCON.

A decision is yet to be reached but talks are well advanced and unless some things change or both parties fail to reach an agreement he will be named coach of the senior national team of Nigeria by the end of this month.

Agbaya, Pundit Isonu – Osimhen Rains Insults At Ikepba Over Criticism Of His Performance Against Ghana

0

Nigeria international and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has replied to criticism aimed at him by former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba in the wake of the failure of the Nigerian team to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking on the 1-1 draw against Ghana in Abuja which denied Nigeria the ticket using the away goal rule, Ikpeba said the Napoli forward should have done better with some of the half chances that came his way during the course of the game.

He faulted his decision to go for the spectacular by trying an overhead kick where a control would have been the perfect option in such situation.

“Victor Osimhen is a good player but is not yet a finished article, forget he’s playing for Napoli. Some of those crosses he might have controlled instead of trying to do a bicycle kick”, he said on Monday Night football.

“He’s a still a young player but I hope that he can improve where he is in Napoli and help the national team in the future. He needs to understand when to play the ball and when to play bicycle kicks”, he concluded.

Ikepba ended his take on the forward by praising him as the one player who was really up for it saying if Nigeria had three of his type on the pitch, they could easily have won the game. Osimhen however appears not to be happy with his earlier criticism.

Responding via Instagram, he posted an insultive word in Yoruba aimed at the former Monaco forward tagged “Pundit Isonu” and as expected it generated reactions from his followers. It further made him to throw more insults at the former Africa Footballer of the year.

He went a step further by dropping an adage in Yoruba which literally translates to a white chicken does not realise his age. Basically an elder that doesn’t respect himself.

“Werey dem say make you no do bicycle kick?, Barcelona women team forward Asisat Oshaola asked in reaction to his post. He replied by saying “I go continue dey do am no be that pundit go tell me wetin to do. AGBAYA”.

Nwakali Lists Contract Issues, Representing Nigeria At AFCON As Why Huesca Terminated His Contract

0

Nigeria international midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has responded to the announcement made by Spanish second division side Huesca terminating his deal at the club.

His contract is set to run out in few months time but the club decided to terminate the deal yesterday putting out a statement that he is not longer contractually binded to them.

Responding the 23 year old said in a statement that the club has in several ways disrespected his fundamental human rights as they tried to blackmail him into signing an extension to his contract at the club.

He said he was owed wages and told he will be paid all if he agrees to a new deal which he refused including their attempt to force him out of the club before the end of the January transfer window.

Nwakali said they also tried to stop him from representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, which he refused. However the club claimed his late return from the tournament made them to terminate his deal.

Per his statement he was late because he wasn’t feeling too well and said it was part of why he didn’t play for Nigeria in the round of 16 game against Tunisia which the in lost 0-1.

Below is his statement.

Kelechi Nwakali – Official Statement

It comes with huge regret that I am writing this message after SD Huesca announced the termination of my contract. Ihave kept silent out of respect for the Huesca fans and my teammates, but I will no longer suffer in silence.

The time has come for people to know the truth and why these past few months have been awful for me and my family. In Dec 2021, I experienced the biggest honour of my life after I received a full international call up for my beloved Nigeria. But the joy of this moment quickly came crashing down when the club’s Sporting Director, Ruben Garcia, put extreme pressure on me not to go to AFCON due to it ‘not being an important tournament!

He told me that if go to AFCON I will not play for Huesca again. This behaviour and the lack of respect shown to my country Nigeria was truly heart-breaking and it was just the latest example of the club attempting to bully me into getting their own way.

For months the club has been abusing its power to bully me into signing a new contract. These tactics have included paying me late on numerous occasions. The breakdown in negotiations came when my mother fell ill and asked Ruben for the wages the club already owed me in order to pay for my Mother’s hospital bill and treatment.

Ruben Garcia responded to my request by saying ‘Sign this new contract and we will pay you what’s owed tonight! But despite these actions, I was not going to allow the club to stop me representing my country at one of the biggest international tournaments in the world and I was honoured to join my teammates in Cameroon.

Before Nigeria’s last 16 game against Tunisia on 23rd January 2022, I began to feel unwell and was diagnosed with a Respiratory Tract Infection. As a result I was not fit enough to play in the game against Tunisia. After we were eliminated from the tournament I was unable to return to the club immediately as planned because of my illness following advice from the Doctor

Then, on the last day of the transfer market (January 31, 2022) when I was in the process of returning to join my teammates at Huesca, Ruben Garcia rang me to tell me I had to leave the club after a late offer came in from another La Liga 2 club. He threatened that he would not pay me if I did not leave the club. The option that was given to me was leave or we will open up disciplinary action.

Before January 31st, I was never told by the club that they wanted to let me leave in January and this was not a decision that I felt was right for me at the time. After returning to the club on February 1st, Ruben Garcia and the club’s lawyers opened disciplinary proceedings against me, suspending me from training and banning me from the training ground. As a result, I had to seek the help of the Spanish Footballers Union (The AFE) who have been in an ongoing dispute with Huesca.

After over a month passed, the club allowed me back into the training ground but have been forcing me to train on my own and have not been allowing me to use the facilities or receive treatment from the club physios. aliyuabubakar20.

Throughout this time, Huesca have not paid my wages, yet I have remained silent hoping that a reasonable resolution could be found. But yesterday when I turned up to the training ground, a member of the club tried to force me to sign mutual termination papers which I refused to do. I have a family that depends on me, and no player should have to go through this inhumane treatment.

I will never regret my decision to represent Nigeria and all I want to do is get back to playing the sport I love. Lastly, I want to thank the fans and my teammates of Huesca who have been amazing during my time here. I have always given 100% for the club, despite my treatment over the past 3 years. God Bless, Kelechi Nwakali

Why We Sacked Kelechi Nwakali – Huesca Opens Up On Decision To Axe Former U17 MVP

0

The decision of Spanish second division side Huesca to terminate the deal of Nigeria international midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has been made known to the Spanish media.

Yesterday Huesca announced that the contract of the 23 year old which was suppose to run out this summer, which is few months away from now has been terminated with immediate effect.

It brings to an end a long drawn out saga with the club after he failed to return to training ten days after he was supposed to following Nigeria’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.

We gathered an amicable solution led by the Spanish footballers union was on the card with Nwakali told to withdraw his case at Spain’s court for Labour over the manner he has been treated by the club.

Talks were progressing nicely but Nwakali made his dismissal easy and possible when he hosted a live video session on Instagram, and called the team all manners of names including threatening to ensure that they pay for making him cancel his big money contract with Arsenal.

During the session he claimed he cancelled two more years left on his Arsenal deal to make the move to Huesca possible only for them to treat him this way. He vowed to ensure that the club pay him for violating his rights.

Using the video from the session as evidence. The club took a decision to fire him for gross insubordination and misconduct following a review by their disciplinary committee.

Portuguese Coach Favourite To Be Named As New Super Eagles Coach Ahead Of AFCON Qualifiers

0

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has opened talks with a Portuguese coach for the vacant role of the coach of senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Yesterday in a communique after their meeting yesterday, the NFF said they have given the technical department five days to come up with possible names to fill the void created by the dismissal of the Austine Eguavoen led technical crew.

Eguavoen and co were fired by the NFF after failing to pick the World Cup ticket by drawing 1-1 at home with Ghana who went through on the away goal rule after drawing the first leg 0-0 in Kumasi.

They were already offered a two year deal to be signed after the game in Abuja but the offer was withdrawn by the NFF who have now mandated the technical department of the football house to draw a shortlist of possible candidates for the job.

” A Portuguese coach will likely get the job. For now he is the leading candidate but we have other options. However he comes highly recommended and has vast knowledge of the Nigerian team as a matter of fact African football as a whole”, a board member of the NFF told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

According to our source the new coach is a priority for the NFF considering the fact that the qualifiers for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations begin in June.

Your Kids Shouldn’t Play For Nigeria, They Were Born Abroad – Super Eagles Player Hit Back At Amokachi

0

A member of the senior national team of Nigeria has hit back at comments made by former Super Eagles forward Daniel Amokachi in the wake of Nigeria’s failure to make it to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Amokachi was a pundit on television during the game against Ghana which ended in a 1-1 draw and saw Ghana progressed on the away goal rule after the first leg ended 0-0 in Kumasi.

While looking at the reason behind the failure of the Nigerian team, Amokachi faulted the high number of players born abroad in the team saying they lack proper knowledge of what the game mean to Nigerians since they weren’t born here.

His comments hasn’t gone down well with a member of the team and he has now come down heavy on the former Everton forward using his children who were also born abroad as reference.

” We see all Nigerians as one regardless of where they were given birth to. As a team we didn’t do enough to get the ticket it’s not about players born abroad. Amokachi who said so gave birth to his children abroad yet he tried to get them into the Nigeria youth team. Why didn’t they play for the country of their birth?”, He asked.

“By his logic. His children shouldn’t play for Nigeria. That is not the wisest thing to say because it even has so discriminatory undertone and it’s coming from someone who is a part of the cabinet of the federal government of Nigeria. That’s sad”, he concluded.

NFF Hit Back At Eguavoen – You Played A Role In The Sacking Of Rohr

0

The Nigeria Football Federation has denied claims made by erstwhile interim coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Austine Eguavoen that he was against the sacking of Gernot Rohr as coach.

Rohr was sacked as coach of the Nigerian team few weeks before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon with Eguavoen appointed in his place. He said yesterday that he wasn’t happy over the decision to sack the coach while speaking on Monday Night Football.

In that interview, Cerezo said that the timing of Germot Rohr’s sack was wrong and that he told the NFF before he was drafted in to lead the team, never to do away with the services of the Franco/German tactician.

Wale Ajayi who has close ties with some members of the NFF and also the minister for youths and sports Sunday Dare has rubbished the claims.

According to the Canada based journalist. Eguavoen’s claims are blatant fallacies and rather unfortunate.   Because before Rohr was sacked, the players, coaches and members of the technical department were contacted.

Many supported the idea and Eguavoen as technical director even said that Rohr was arrogant and hardly listens to him. As a matter of fact, why didn’t he Eguavoen, refuse the job when it was offered to him our source said?

Minister, NFF Agree On Foreign Coach For Super Eagles, Shun Idea Of Appointing Oliseh

0

It was a close door meeting that started at exactly 4.10pm on Monday at the office of the minister of youth and sports development, Sunday Dare.

The meeting was at the instance of the sports minister and present at that meeting was NFF president Amaju Melvin Pinnick and his General Secretary, Sanusi Mohammed.

The minister used the ocassion to review the events of Tuesday March 29 and all that happened.thereafter and asked the NFF to immediately set in motion modalities for the employment of a new coach for the Super Eagles.

For the records, at no point during this meeting did anyone mention the appointment of former Super Eagles Captain and coach  Sunday Oliseh. He was never considered and will not be considered according to our very impeccable source.

Yes, the meeting discussed the need to urgently appoint a coach to lead the Super Eagles ahead of the fast approaching Nations cup qualifiers and agreed that the way forward for Nigeria football is the employment of a foreign technical adviser with a Nigerian acting as Chief coach.

All the rumors about Sunday Oliseh taking charge as Chief coach are the handiwork of his media loyalist who are desperate to hand twist the NFF into appointing the former Juventus of Turin midfielder.

Secondly, the meeting condemned in strong terms, comments made by former interim coach of the Super Eagles  Augustine Eguaveon in a recent interview, where he claimed he advised the NFF and sports ministry to retain the services of former Super Eagles chief coach Gernot Rohr.

In any case, the NFF and Sports Ministry have no regrets giving Nigeria coaches a chance. The performance of the Super Eagles in Nigeria’s group stage matches of the Nations Cup further motivated the the executive committee of the NFF to allow Eguaveon take charge of the World Cup Qualifier.

More than 80 percent of Nigeria football fans supported this move at that time even though the Super Eagles went out in the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations.

For the World Cup Qualifier against Ghana,  the team got the best treatment any Nigerian team ever got in the history of our football.

The players signed 35 percent instead of the usual 20 percent upfront match bonus payment, the NFF went the extra mile to offer them comfortable flights in from their various clubsides, superb accommodation and feeding both in Nigeria and Ghana, smooth and brand new aircraft to and from Ghana, a lush green turf in a stadium that was full to capacity, fair offficiating and to cap it all, God gave us a clement weather, perfect for good football. Now tell me where we went wrong my our source asked rhetorically.

The highpoint of Monday’s meeting is the rebranding of the Nigeria professional football league. Both parties agreed that there is urgent need to raise the standard of the Nigeria league, by improving the quality of play, quality of officiating and quality of our pitches.

There is also the need for clubs to work on their academies and develop young players that will take over from our aging stars. Both parties agreed that it is only when that is done, that the over reliance on Nigeria player born abroad will reduce.

There is need to raise the level of patriotism by getting only players who will want to die for the country to wear the green white green jersey of Nigeria play for this country henceforth.

The fast approaching Nations cup qualifiers and the CHAN tournament are key priorities and the NFF and Sports Ministry have resolved to tackle both events with uptimum seriousness. There is no need to create room for further distractions as Nigeria has decided to put behind them the failure of not going to the World Cup in Qatar.

Like Italy who failed to qualify for their second World Cup after losing to North Macedonia in the playoff, but have quickly gathered the pieces of their broken hearts to start playing friendly matches and preparing for the future, the Ministry and the Nigeria football federation have resolved to bounce back from the setback of Qatar to build a better tomorrow for Nigeria football..

I Was Against The Sacking Of Rohr- Eguavoen Opens Up On Super Eagles Failure To Qualify For World Cup

0

Erstwhile interim coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Austine Eguavoen says he wasn’t in support of the decision to sack Gernot Rohr as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria.

Eguavoen took over as coach of the Nigerian team with just three weeks to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations stepping up from his role as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

In his capacity back then he has a say in the future of Rohr as coach of the Super Eagles and he has now confirmed that he was against the sacking of the German coach due to the timing.

He made this known on Monday Night Football as he corroborated a statement by Victor Ikpeba who laid the blame on the NFF for the Super Eagles failure to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

“Eguavoen was not in support of the decision to sack Rohr”, Ikpeba said. “Yes I complained about the timing as it was too close to the Africa Cup of Nations”, Eguavoen replied.
