Embattled coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says his team in the past one year met all expectations as doubts continue to surround his stay as coach of the team.

Football agent Drew Uyi has confirmed that Spartak Moscow winger Victor Moses will return to the senior national team of Nigeria three years after announcing his retirement from international football.

A member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Elder Paul Bassey has given his opinion on the future of the coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr.

Rohr has been told he is no longer needed as coach of the team but with four weeks to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations and two week to the start of camping he is yet to be officially sacked by the NFF.

Bassey who is a member of the Technical Committee bare is thought on the future of the coach during an interview with Brila FM in Abuja and below is extract from interview as captured by Adebayo Ademetan.

The NFF Technical committee was inaugurated on May 2021 with Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh as Chairman. Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu as Vice Chairman. Members are Elder Paul Bassey, Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi, Barrister Isaac Danladi, Alhahi Dahiru Sadi, Victor Ikpeba and and Mutiu Adepoju. NFF Technical Director, Mr Austin Eguavoen is the Secretary.

On the reported meeting that Technical Committee held on the status of Gernot Rohr on Brila FM and other stuff, the Akwa United supremo bare his thoughts.

“Not to the best of my knowledge, I never sat with any committee. The Executive Committee of the NFF must have met. If the Technical Committee met I wasn’t part of it or invited for such. You know that we have individual views on Gernot Rohr as the head coach of the Super Eagles.”

We don’t have the power people think that we have. I will not change the decisions of the coach. I will like the coach to tell us why Paul Bassey was picked. The coach will just come and bring anybody.

“I don’t have the details of Gernot Rohr’s contract as a member of the Technical Committee. When people talk about the payoff of his contract, I hardly offer my opinion. The contract is a Taboo. Maybe this is me. Other members might have different opinion.”

“Other members of the Technical Committee might be attending meetings but I am not aware. We should have an idea of the team. How can coach drop list and we can’t have a say? I will just call one or two people especially my friends in the Media to get information on the invited players.”

“I remember during one of my CAF assignments to Burkina Faso and people asked if we were bringing Rohr on board. I was surprised at their observations but gave Rohr a benefit of doubt. He might thrive in another environment.”

“We have put ourselves in a situation where sacking Rohr will be very difficult. He has met his target and the situation is tough. Rohr might just go to Nations Cup and reach the semi final.”

Nigeria’s preparations for the tournament has been rocked by uncertainty over the future of Rohr as coach of the team with the German not expected to lead the team to AFCON but yet to be officially sacked.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has banned the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos from hosting any games of the senior national team of Nigeria as they head into the world cup qualifiers play off.

Content of a mail made available to Owngoalnigeria.com has it that the continental soccer body isn’t satisfied with the condition of the playing surface and has demanded for an upgrade on the pitch where the Super Eagles played all their home games during the first round of the World Cup qualifiers.

The field of play is made up of many grass species and others are just weeds. It also has many small patches; Considering installing a new natural pitch in the stadium.

The Floodlights need improvement. Current intensity is not uniform all over the pitch, which is well below the acceptable measurement. An independent Lux level report was not received or completed by stadium management.

As many as six senior players of the senior national team of Nigeria have voiced their unhappiness to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the delay in making a decision on the future of coach of the team Gernot Rohr.

Rohr has been told that he is no longer in charge of the team in a verbal communication with the NFF over two weeks ago but an official notification as well as fulfilling the terms of the termination is holding back his departure.

With two weeks to the start of camping for the Africa Cup of Nations, the players are concerned that the team has no clear direction on who is in charge for the tournament which starts in a month’s time.

They are expected to win the tournament after finishing third in 2019 but the impasse over who will manage the team is threatening to derail their ambition of lifting the trophy.

Already they have made their feelings known to the NFF who have in turn assured them that a decision on the who will lead the team to the tournament will be made in earnest.

The one sickening point is still the issue of finance, same issue that has made it almost impossible to fire Rohr despite the fact that they want him gone and already told him so verbally. He turned down their offer to resign as it will see him lose some of his entitlements.

As at the time of the filing in of this report, the coach who is back in Germany haven’t been informed officially that his services are no longer required.
