The representative of Porto left back Zaidu Sanusi has given reasons why coach of FC Porto Sergio Conceicao stopped the Nigerian from joining Turkish side Fenerbahce.
Zaidu has fallen down the pecking order at Porto and after failing to agree on a loan move to West Ham in the last day of the transfer window in England, a move to Fenerbahce was mooted.
Talks were held between both clubs with the representative of the player also keen on the move to happen base on the wish of the player but the move was vetoed at the end by the coach of Porto.
Explaining, the representative told this portal that it was a decision which came as a shock to all parties involved as the coach has earlier given his green light for the move to happen. He however said he gave a valid reason why he stopped the move.
“ When we got the message that the coach want him to stay. It came unexpected as we thought he( Zaidu) was one foot out of the club. He made it clear that Zaidu is part of his plans and Wendell the new left back isn’t coming to take his spot”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
“ He explained how he believe the competition for a starting berth will improve Zaidu in the long run. He was also clear that he sees Ivo Marcano as a centre back even though he has played him more as a left back recently.
“ It’s a fresh start for Zaidu and he has to pick up pace again to make the spot his like it has always been. He is up for the challenge and hopefully he will triumph”.
