Many expected him to push for a spot in the Liverpool side or better still accept the option of going on loan to another English side but the 23 year old revealed he insisted on a move to Union Berlin.

According to Awoniyi he want to go to a team where he is sure to play and also develop further instead of staying in England where he would have made more money.

“It was an easy decision, but also a difficult one”, Awoniyi told the Berliner Morgenpost.

“If I had stayed in England it would have been good for me too, then I would definitely have made more money.
“But I wanted to go to a club where I was welcome and part of the team. It is not always about money”, he added.
