Flashback: Super Eagles Player Reveals- Leon Balogun Doesn’t Respect Rohr, They Are Always Quarreling

0

A player of the senior national team of Nigeria says Rangers of Scotland defender Leon Balogun has little or no regards for coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.

Balogun didn’t make his international debut for Nigeria under Rohr but he became a mainstay of the team under the German coach forming a formidable partnership in defence with William Troost Ekong enroute qualification for the last World Cup in Russia.

The partnership famously referred to as the “Oyibo Wall” played a big role on the pitch in helping Nigeria qualify for the World Cup but it has since been broken up by Rohr , no thanks to Balogun’s poor form at his previous club Brighton and Hove Albion.

Speaking on the rekindling of the partnership, a member of the team who spoke with this portal on the condition of anonymity said it’s not possible because Balogun’s relationship with Rohr has hit rock bottom.

“ Rohr has tolerated Balogun a lot. They are always quarreling. That many of us believe made Rohr to pick Ekong ahead of him as captain. From our point he doesn’t seem to have respect for Rohr.

“ Most times when they disagree in training it’s in German so we don’t understand what exactly is the issue but during team meetings or reviews of past games we see how they exchange words.

“ The once quiet Balogun is now the most vocal and difficult to handle. I think that combination with Ekong is dead. However knowing how Rohr treats us as a father he might give him another chance. For now he is a back up defender”.

In April this year during a live chat on Instagram monitored by Owngoalnigeria, Balogun confirmed that he is usually involved in heated arguments with the coach, which according to him surprises most of his teammates.

“I do challenge the coach sometimes, it helps that we both speak German,” he said.

“Sometimes, when the discussions are heated, the other players will say ‘this Balogun is crazy oh’, but it’s all for the good of the team and constructive”.

NFF Replies Leon Balogun On Super Eagles Unpaid Bonuses, Lack Of Permanent Home Ground

0
The Nigeria Football Federation says it is working at a pace to ensure the payment of outstanding bonuses and allowances of the coaches and players of the senior men national team, Super Eagles, as well as salaries owed the coaches of the team.
NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said in Abuja on Wednesday that the challenges and disruptions caused by the global coronavirus pandemic are still being felt by government institutions and businesses the world over, and there was no need to pretend that these are normal times.
“The NFF deserves no joy in owing players and coaches their
entitlements. The same players and coaches have been well-taken-care of and provided the necessary facilities when things were normal, and as we work assiduously towards conquering the present challenges and seeing sunlight again, we expect the players, coaches and administrative staff to show the same level of understanding that they have been showing over the past 18 months.
“Of course, we are pragmatists and we releaize that these things can be frustrating and some people will boil over and talk about them. It is normal. Last month, during the friendlies in Austria, we were able to pay some of the outstanding bonuses and allowances. We are working at a pace presently to clear what is remaining. As I speak, we are owing the team bonuses and allowances from only the last two matches, and payments for these two games have been sent to the Central Bank some weeks ago. They will receive the monies shortly. We are equally working to pay the coaches what they are being owed as salaries.”
Dr Sanusi’s comments were in direct reference to a statement credited to Super Eagles’ defender, Leon Balogun on Tuesday saying the NFF was owing the players bonuses and allowances. “We have never denied owing the team. Leon is a senior player that everyone respects for his quality output on the pitch and calmness and forbearance off it, but I do not know which reports he was referring to when he said the NFF was contradicting itself.
“He also talked about playing pitches. Sincerely speaking, the past few years has seen a remarkable improvement in stadia infrastructure across the country. The team had to move round the States because the turf of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja got bad. Now, the pitch is coming back to shape thanks to the efforts of the present Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare, who got the respected Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s company to work on it.
“Presently, we have exciting venues in Uyo, Benin City, Asaba, Kaduna and Lagos. Without the team moving round the States, the governments of these States probably would not have devoted much effort into putting these facilities in world-standard shape. There are remarkable improvements on facilities in Ibadan, the National Stadium in Lagos and a new one in Lagos. All these will benefit the teeming youth population of Nigeria who are interested in sports.”

Ex Super Eagles Captain Mikel Clashed With Rohr Over Super Eagles Boring Style Of Play

0

One of the untold stories of John Mikel Obi last days as captain and player of the senior national team of Nigeria was his clash with coach of the team Gernot Rohr during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mikel was a starter in the first game of the Super Eagles which ended in a 1-0 win over Burundi but he picked up a thigh injury which led to his substitution in the game around the 58th minute mark.

He didn’t play another group game until the final match of the and he lasted about same time before he was subbed off. After that game he didn’t get to play again with Rohr claiming that he wasn’t fully fit.

A year ago Rohr confirmed he indeed dropped Mikel for Alex Iwobi who according to him gave the team more balance in the run which ended in a bronze medal.

An out of favour Super Eagles player who was a part of the squad revealed to OwnGoalNigeria.com that Mikel did have a clash with the manager after the group stages which led to his axing.

“ Mikel wasn’t happy with the way we were approaching games and he told the coach who felt his ideas and authorities was being questioned. Mikel felt we were too boring as a team and wanted us to be more adventurous, Rohr didn’t think we should go that route”, he said.

“ It led to a misunderstanding and most of us believe it’s why he didn’t get to play again in the tournament”, he concluded.

Super Eagles Hopeful Ugbo Scores Winner For Chelsea In Pre Season Win Over Bournemouth

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future Ike Ugbo showed his predatory instinct in front of goal with the winner for Chelsea in a 2-1 pre season win over Bournemouth.

Ugbo who is back at Chelsea after a fairly successful time on loan in Belgium with Cercle Brugge nodded home what ended as the decider in the 76th minute off a corner kick from Ross Barkley.

His goal will have little or no impact in his future at the club as he is presently locked in talks with Genk over a permanent transfer to the Belgium side. He is expected to replace hot in demand striker Paul Onuachu.

The move which is thought to be well advanced will be concluded in the coming weeks with Ugbo who has already filed papers for a nationality switch from England to Nigeria keen on finding a permanent home after several loan spells.

Leon Balogun Blast NFF Over Super Eagles Unpaid Bonuses, Lack Of Permanent Base For Home Games

0

Rangers of Scotland defender Leon Balogun has taken a swipe at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the unpaid bonuses of the senior national team of Nigeria.

The senior national team of Nigeria at a point in time didn’t collect any form of bonus for 18 months despite actively getting involved in qualifiers games and friendly games.

33 year old Balogun who has been an integral part of the team since 2016 when present coach Gernot Rohr took over discussed the issue of unpaid bonuses in a show monitored by OwnGoalNigeria.com.

Balogun speaking in a recent edition of The Beautiful Game podcast hit out at the NFF for the lack of transparency in the handling of the issue as they contradict themselves.

Below is an extract on some of the things he said about the treatment of the Super Eagles and why many see him as a troublemaker for speaking up for his teammates.

“We are not been provided with the best to do our job. It starts with pitches or it starts with accommodation but it goes on to pitches and all these kind of things. As I said I am always quite outspoken. I know if some people hear that from here, they might come after but I don’t care . Because that is just how it is, If you say you want to see the next Messi coming out of Nigeria or the next Cristiano Ronaldo or whatsoever.

“If you want to see us soar then you need to make sure that back home in Nigeria we have the best possibilities like why don’t we have a base in Nigeria where we meet up like St. George’s Park in England. We don’t really have something like that.

“ And you spoke of the unpaid bonuses in the news. It’s not a secret even and then I have read something recently when people in charge they contradict themselves said things have been paid, then they admit they haven’t been paid.

“It’s like everybody is so concern about the look of Nigeria we have to represent Nigeria well and we cannot embarrass Nigeria but make sure you are not embarrassing Nigeria with your own action.

“ I think it’s also a matter of. It’s a culture thing also to show respect in these kind of things and that’s also something where I clash probably because I’m not afraid to speak my mind even if it is with the coach or the manager.

If I feel like something is wrong, I might at one point talk just about it and then they will always like okay this boy is a troublemaker but I’m not a troublemaker because at the end of the day I stand in for my teammates, I do that with pleasure and if I have to take the fall, I probably did in the past and it’s always also motivated by personal issues not issues but things I feel like I don’t have to deal with this now and any of us should. So there is lot of work to do”, he concluded.

Henry Onyekuru Frees Himself From Monaco’s Hell, Makes Permanent Move To Olympiakos

Nigeria international wing forward Henry Onyekuru has agreed to join Greek giants Olympiakos on a permanent deal from Ligue 1 side Monaco, OwnGoalNigeria.comunderstands.

Monaco have told the Nigerian that he isn’t in their plans for next season and he was subsequently axed from the pre season squad as reported by this portal two weeks ago.

Galatasary couldn’t reach an agreement with Monaco on signing him permanently and his agent confirmed that he is also in talks with Fenerbahce and Besiktas but Olympiakos is where he is heading on a permanent deal.

It hasn’t been the best of move for the talented winger since he joined Monaco in a permanent deal from Everton. He has failed to stamp his authority in the team despite working with several managers. He will be hoping to launch himself with this move especially as they will be playing in the UEFA Champions League.
