Bournemouth Ace Billing Makes U-Turn On Playing For Denmark After Euros Snub, Confirms Talks With Rohr

0

24 year old Danish midfielder Philip Billing has voiced his frustration at missing out of the Danish team for the Euros despite the fine season he had at Bournemouth.

Billing has only played once for Denmark but he was hoping he will make the squad for the European Championship particularly after his decision to snub a chance to switch nationality to Nigeria.

He is eligible for Nigeria through his father who is from the West African country but after an exclusive by this portal , he denied approaching the Nigerian team for a call up claiming he is 100% Danish.

However few months later, coach of the Nigerian team Rohr revealed the player’s agent contacted him and they had talks about playing for Nigeria as reported by Owngoalnigeria.com. Billing this time around didn’t refute it.

Speaking on the backdrop of his failure to make the Danish team for the Euros, he said he feels disappointed by the snub and revealed that he is now considering making a u-turn on his decision to play for Denmark ahead of Nigeria.

“I have talked to the coach several times, so it is something I have thought more about after I have not been selected for the European Championships, says Billing to bt.dk.

“ There will also soon be a World Cup that I will have to think about. I am almost 25 years old and I have only played one international match. I also have something I would like to achieve in my career.

Billing played just 72 minutes in his only senior game for Denmark which was a friendly game won 4-0 against Faroe Island in October 2020 making him eligible to switch to Nigeria. A switch which he said he will consider with the World Cup fast approaching.

Despite Bournemouth missing out on promotion, Billing was one of their stars playing a total of 36 games where he scored 8 goals and also had six assists.

I have seen so much with DBU and the national team in recent years, so I did not expect to come to the European Championships, but I was hoping for that. It’s the European Championships, and it’s huge. And then right in Denmark. It’s a boy’s dream, says Billing.

You Lack Discipline – Amokachi Tells Raheem Lawal Why He Was Dropped From AFCON 2013 Squad

0

Former assistant coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Daniel Amokachi has hit back at claims made by former Super Eagles midfielder Raheem Lawal on why he was dropped from the team that won AFCON 2013.

The former Osmanlispor midfielder alleged that head coach Stephen Keshi wanted to take him to the tournament but it was Amokachi who blocked it in favour of players he has interest in.

Lawal in a series of rant of social media accused the coach of masterminding his axing from the squad in favour of players that he want to use the tournament as an avenue to trade.

Amokachi who was very influential as assistant to Keshi refuted the allegations saying Lawal who was then based in Turkey lack the discipline the team need to progress at a tournament like that.

“ I showed the news to Amokachi and he laughed over it before telling me that Lawal is being economical with the truth. He said the main reason was indiscipline. Everyone who knows him can testify”, a source close to the coach told Owngoalnigeria.com.

“ Same Lawal played for the team for two years after the tournament with Amokachi as assistant. He knows he is not saying the truth. That team was built on discipline, unity of purpose and togetherness. He lacked all three.

“ It’s not in Amokachi’s style to hit back at spurious and unfounded allegations. Lawal played for Nigeria in 2016, three years after the AFCON triumph and same issue of indiscipline restricted him to just 47 minutes in the friendly games against Mali and Luxembourg respectively. He never got a look in since then”, he concluded.

0

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has dropped eight players from his provisional list of 31 players called up for the international friendly game against Cameroon in Austria.

Ahead of the June 4th clash, the coach in the unveiling of the squad by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that eight players will be dropped from the squad before the game.

After the conclusion of the major European Leagues yesterday, the coach has picked the players who won’t be available for the game but three more players still need to be dropped from the team.

Already Sadiq Umar, Kenneth Omeruo and Moses Simon won’t be available as they will be involved in promotion playoffs for their team with the Spanish based duo pushing for promotion. Simon will be involved in relegation playoff with Nantes.

As for the local players two in Anayo Iwuala and goalkeeper John Noble both of Enyimba were in Abuja to process their visa to Austria earlier today. Noble’s visit to the Austria embassy could mean that Ikechukwu Ezenwa won’t be in the party.

Other players expected to miss out in the list include Henry Onyekuru who didn’t have the best of time at Turkish side Galatasary and Paul Onuachu who will likely be getting married around that time.

One of the duo of Samuel Chukwueze and Peter Olayinka is expected to miss out with doubts surrounding the availability of the recuperating Chukwueze which we gathered was why Olayinka was called up in the first place.

Ex Chelsea Star Says Ndidi Should Hand In Transfer Request To Leave Leicester City

0

Former Chelsea full back Celestine Babayaro says Wilfred Ndidi should push for a move away from Leicester City if he receives offer from a team in the UEFA Champions League.

Ndidi has stamped his authority as one of the most respected defensive midfielders in the English Premier League for the past three seasons but it hasn’t been okay for Leicester to play in the UEFA Champions League.

Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com, Babayaro said the 24 year old should be looking for an exit this summer as he deserve to play for a top team playing in Europe premier club tournament.

“ Ndidi has grown the past two years. He is at his peak and the time to move is now. When he gets to 25 and above most clubs won’t see the need to invest heavily on him as his resale value would have dropped”, he said.

“ If an offer comes in from a top team. I will advice him to take it up and move to a new challenge. If Leicester see his willingness to leave they won’t stop him. He should hand in a transfer request if need be”.
